The Nintendo 64 turns 20 in Europe

Dr_Wadd

@redcrayon The problem came once you did notice it...

I was happy with my PAL N64 until I played on a friend's NTSC unit. As soon as I had the chance I traded my PAL unit at for NTSC. Skill2000 sold modded NTSC N64's which were capable of outputting RGB over SCART, I'm not sure I could have gone over to composite.

AFAIK it still works, I think I last used it about 10 years ago when I finally got around to playing Paper Mario.

Looking for Michael Bay: The Video Game

Dr_Wadd

I too grew up not far from the Southsea arcades and went through a lot of loose change in them. I went back a couple of years ago while in the area and they are such a disappointment now (the whole funfair complex there has been ruined). They seem to contain pretty much nothing but gambling machines now.

The other local arcade was Olympia in Lee-on-Solent, which had a surprisingly good selection of cabinets for its size.

Eurogamer has its own mechanism for sending notifications, surely that can be used to distribute the keys. It's a mechanism entirely within Eurogamer's control, surely it can't be beyond your developers to implement a system where each registered user can only be sent one code. There's absolutely no need to farm this off to a third-party system.

@curtlikesmeat That's the scroll you can find on a corpse fairly close to your starting location. I've not heard of that particular speed-run technique before, but once I realised you could fall any distance and survive if you land in water I did play around with it a fair bit. Needless to say it is not the most reliable way of getting around the map quickly.

Polybius: The story behind the world's most mysterious arcade cabinet

Dr_Wadd

@Cappy In the early 80s I played a lot of a laserdisc based racer called Star Rider in an arcade in St Ives while on holiday. I never saw it in any arcade again after that. I did find one with the cabinet once, but it had been retrofitted with Super Hang On. It was only when I found it again many years later on the internet that I had any confirmation that this game existed outside my memories.

Sony's knuckles rapped over PS4 20th Anniversary Edition competition

Dr_Wadd

@YenRug This is going back almost 20 years ago, but one of the earliest online CD retailers had a trivia competition running every day for a while, the daily prize was £50 worth of CDs, with an extra £50 for the highest total score that week, with a cap over the course of the competition for any single player of £250.

The prize competition itself was only held once a day, but you could also play it for fun during the course of the day with the questions changing every hour. The only problem (although not for me) was that the pool of questions was the same. Once I realised this I played as many of the hourly non-prize games as I could so when the prize round came around I already had the answers memorised.

The £250 worth of CDs I ended up getting most most welcomed.

Funds from Microsoft Points switchover expire 1st June

Dr_Wadd

@udat I may be wrong, but I recall that the first time I attempted to purchase something with a split of credit and card it wouldn't allow me to. However, I have bought something on Marketplace more recently and it asked if I wanted to apply the credit in my account against the purchase. There was a slight difference in that the first time it was points converted to credit while the more recent time it was credit earned through XBox Rewards, but it would be odd if they made that a factor.

@MilkYMoO Looking at the prices of various drives online last night 1TB drives seem to be in the sweet spot of price vs capacity, not that much more expensive than 500GB drives but sufficiently cheaper than 2TB drives to dissuade me from getting anything larger at this time.

As someone with a completely full 120GB drive on their 360 and an ever growing pile of USB sticks this is something I very much welcome. As others have said, I wish they'd done this some time back, but I'm very pleased they've got around to it eventually.
