Microsoft's new-look Xbox Live avatars shown off in action via leaked video

Britesparc

Really? Doesn't look much like it. I guess with that art style it's hard to define but I'd say "young adult". I'm talking about under-10.

As someone with a young child who plays on the Xbox, it'd be nice if they allowed you to make characters look like kids (rather than "short woman"). Also - as my daughter, bless her, is already rather savvy about internet privacy - options to make characters look inhuman, like aliens, robots, animals, etc.

Grainger Games boss's rushed farewell to staff as administrators take over

Shame to see Grainger Games go to the wall, especially as - coming from the NE - I always thought of them as a "local boy".

Tough to survive in today's industry. Not sure what's next for the physical sector.

No Man's Sky headed to Xbox One, next big update arrives this summer

Britesparc

With this and Hellblade, two of the three most exciting games coming to Xbox One this year (IMO) are both former PS4 titles. I don't care; I just want good games.

(the third game, incidentally, is Crackdown 3, and in all likelihood these are the only three games I'll buy this year)

Lara Croft and Lucozade are at it again

Britesparc

Saw this the other day and was tickled that they'd kept the Lara connection. I agree, though, that the first one was the best. One of the earliest pop culture things I remember that actually played on gaming mechanics (Lara's inventory) rather than just characters/aesthetic

Is Vermintide an RTS or something? That could be fun.

Edit: ah, just watched the video, looks like an FPS if I'm not mistaken.

Unpatched, the disc version of The Witcher 3 runs at 60fps on Xbox One X

Britesparc

@Malek86 I think they do. Doesn't Gears 4 have a visual vs performance mode, which is basically 4k/30fps vs 1080p/60fps? I don't have an X so not certain but I think that's right.

I wonder if the game review Christian can't really remember is Max Payne 2? I seem to remember PC Gamer drawing attention to the physics objects in their review (I think! It was a while ago...). Prey was a flawed FPS with ideas worth remembering

Britesparc

@Rogueywon Yeah I think one other issue was that, all through development, it was billed as the most graphically advanced game ever, and then it was released as another game using the Doom 3 engine. It lost a lot of gusto.

I've never completed it sadly. Wish it was on backwards compatibility.

I'm old enough to remember the hype on PC for this. I even remember when it was going to be called "A Talon Brave game" because they originally had a much more cliched lead character and wanted to hang a franchise off him. It was supposed to be the scariest game ever made.

I still quite enjoyed what was released, however.

Introducing the Eurogamer Summer Internship

Britesparc

@Euphiletos but if the industry standard is minimum wage or even places offering unpaid internships, why should EG pay more?

I'm playing devil's advocate here, BTW. I don't think unpaid positions are necessarily fair and make it really hard for people from lower income backgrounds to break in. But at the same time, it's a business and I'm sympathetic to that.

@carmagainagain And I worked for free, for below minimum wage, and for minimum wage when I was starting out in TV. It's not necessarily fair or best practice, but people are willing to do it.
