Is Far Cry 2's tech really more advanced than Far Cry 5's?

1Dgaf

but taking on a helicopter with an RPG while compensating for the shell's arcing trajectory would likely be more difficult and less satisfying.
I disagree with this. The more difficult something is, the more satisifying success is.
One of my fondest gaming memories is using a morater to kill a target in FC2. He was in a mountain side village, towards the back of the terrain, at the highest point.
I looked at my map to check the terrain, adjusted my mortar and hit the NPC with one shot. I didn't even go into the village.

That's memorable because I understood how unlikely it was and how good my estimation must have been. It was satisfying because it was difficult.

Absolver review

1Dgaf

PS4 version frame rate is very poor. Needs fixing for it to be a viable online game.

The camera also doesn't help, since it likes to zoom in close even when there are multiple enemies.

The core fighting is interesting though and I could see it being a popular 1 v 1 fighting game, a bit like Bushido Blade.

Long after the PS2 had stopped selling, I bought this game because of the if>then system. I was looking for a title that had it and this is what people recommended it.

At some point I'll actually play it, too. Just got some other titles to get through first.

Dirty Bomb is armed and dangerous, but is it likely to go nuclear?

1Dgaf

As one of the few people that liked Brink - I put 50 hours into it, despite it being broken - I just wanted to comment on the idea of funnelling people intro attrition.

It did do that, but I think that's mainly because the timing and coordination needed to avoid it was perhaps too complex for randoms getting together, or even groups of friends that played casually. The outcome is the same, but I'm not sure it was inevitable.

And as for controls, I think Brink's were better than they first appeared and, if it had been successful, would have lent themselves to people fine tuning their way around the levels much in the same way people look for better and faster laps in racing games.

It's a shame that Dirty Bomb is PC and free to play; if it had come to console as a normal game, I might have taken a punt on it.

But not at launch.

1Dgaf

@BigDannyH Fair question, Danny. All I can say is that I'd never seen anything like it when we started. We always try to be original and that's why we did it.

If you look back over the years where we've discussed and promoted the idea on the forum, I think it's reasonable to assume the EG awards were inspired by ours.

If that's not the case, that's fine and I'm mistaken. If it is, then it shows our idea was correct - which is cool - and a bit of credit would be nice. Certainly we couldnt have done it without the EG forum, so one idea feeds into another.

EDIT:

Mr Tom and Rudderless have pointed out that Edge were doing these sorts of things in 2007, something I wasn't aware of. I've left my original post up (but retracted it, if that makes sense).
6 23

1Dgaf

Gosh, you know these awards seem pretty similar to ones we started a few years ago at the HatchetJob.com podcast. We thought GOTY awards needed changing and came up with a new format.

If you've been inspired by us at all - EG forumites did take part over the years - perhaps we'd warrant a mention in the article?

Here's our first alternative-GOTY show for 2009

EDIT:

Mr Tom and Rudderless have pointed out that Edge have been doing these sorts of awards since 2007. I hold my hands up - I got it wrong. I wasn't aware of those awards. I'm leaving my post up as it is, since deleting it wouldn't be cool.

World of Warplanes review

Money didn't confer an advantage, only exclusives, simple favours or faster advancement up the same technology tree everyone else was climbing.

I've not played WoT, so I might be wrong but if moving up the technology tree gives you more options in battle, isn't moving up it more quickly advantage? I have more tools and toys to play with.

And, depending on how tanks are different, even if the stats look about the same, different stats mean tanks are better at different things. Isn't that an advantage in the right situation?

I the think the notion of 'advantage' is paraded as binary, but it's actually subtler and dependent on context. Arguably it should be discussed in terms of probability.
