Angry Birds dev plans publisher move

Rovio working on new indie label.

Angry Birds developer Rovio is planning a move into game publishing, according to a Develop report.

Apparently the stinking rich Finnish outfit intends to set up a new label which will specialise in independent mobile titles.

It's reportedly already been in touch with a number of studios about signing up, though wouldn't confirm the move outright when approached for comment.

"We have some plans for this area, but not ready to announce yet," said Rovio exec Peter Vesterbacka.

"If we do something in the publishing area, you can expect it to be a bit different."

Rovio secured $42 million in investment for a mystery project back in March. Could this new venture be it?

Earlier this year, the developer was estimated to be worth a cool $1.2 billion.
