Interesting, I never bothered with Legions in most games, didn't seem to be any use attacking (if he's got archers, they don't cut it, and if he hasn't, warriors are usually good enough, especially attacking from a hill). I just built loads of archers in a Don't Even Try It approach to diplomacy, until the catapults were ready to roll.

Not the way most historians would describe Catherine the Great but I'm not going to disagree!

    Catapult armies for Archer armies.
Legions for Archers and Warrior armies. They're also good enough against Archer armies too if the conditions are right.

PL/SCH: Yeah, if realy life had a victory clause! It'd be better if you had other tactical options other than "beat down your opponents". Like making sure that the English are embroiled in a war with the Germans whilst you sneakily build the world bank.

Basically, more diplomacy options. And sneak options.

Yes, that would be better... but the game can't do that, so you can't really blame the AI for ganging up on you it as it stands.

It would certainly be a much better game if the AI had that ability.

And it is still a problem that, even without an imminent victory, most AIs will gang up on you anyway.

But it's not shit AI in that scenario. The game includes no option to do anything else. It's better game options we need, not AI.

Except for the rest of the game, where the AI IS lacking.

Crikey the iPod version is pretty bloody good! Not as military-focused as the PS3 version, for sure.

Cheers, Jeepers - unfortunately, that doesn't work with missiles. Moving the finger from the screen immediately asks for a target confirmation, and if you cancel, the focus jumps back to the unit. Unless I am missing something.

Apart from that, the game is digital crack cocaine, and the AI does a stellar job, from what I can tell so far. It's already personal between me and Lincoln.

I was talking bollocks, and it works with nukes as with every other unit. Don't ask me which drugs I was on.

    /sheepish

Wait, there has been an update that fixed it, right? RIGHT?

I'm waiting to see if updates bring multiplayer. PBEM would be great

Got this for the 360 over the weekend and sat down for a proper go last night.
Never played a Civ game before do went for the easy tutorial difficulty and I had won no probably at all.
I really like the things you can do in the game and need to play it on a harder setting so I don't feel like such a god and so I can get to a modern time.

I really, really enjoyed the demo of this but I think the last Civ game I played was Civ II? It came free with a PC my parents bought and I thought it was the dullest thing I'd ever played, I was 12 though...

To find something boring, you'd first need to understand it. Saying "I find quantum mechanics boring" does not make sense.

To be honest I probably play CivRev more than any onther game I own with the exception of PES09 (X360). Perfect game to come back to after months away - very easy to get back into the swing of.

I personally prefer it to Civ4, probably for the reason that its quick. Yes its dumbed down but I'm happy to sacrifice a bit of the depth to be able to get 1 or 2 games an evening in when I get the urge.

Good game. Fair amount of DLC and new maps on the 'game of the week' every week as far as I can tell. From what I hear from a workmate the DS version is also very good.

    Hope this helps.

I bought civ rev, my first purchase on the iphone, last week just before I went off to the the states.

It was a life saver! Whenever I had to wait for taxis or relatives to het off their arses I'd whack it on. Great time killer! Although I started my first game on diety mode not releasing that was the hardest!

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Like I said, I did give Civ IV a fair go, just played a map until I built a pyramid or something and then it seemed like I won, I gather you can either dominate the world peacefully or not peacefully and then you can also win by building a certain type of building, or at least people kept attacking my pyramid when I was trying to build it.

People attacked your pyramid? Win by building a certain type of building? I don't know what you've played, but I am pretty sure it wasn't Civ IV.
