I'm not sure if it's Lithuania specifically, but I've heard general warnings about people being gently 'kidnapped' in strip joints and the like. Going in and not being let out until they've handed all their cash over.
I'd say make sure you don't go in any seedy looking back-street places.

Registered 11 years agoI've been to Latvia and Prague and never experienced anything like this.
Vilnius as a city is beautiful. We stayed in Old Town and the cathedrals/churches and buildings are very impressive. We had fantastic weather too.
I would have gone back with my wife and kids, but not now -

Registered 10 years agoMate that sounds awful! It's something I hadn't really noticed or thought about when I had been there. It's such a shame that such a beautiful city can have so many arseholes. Hope that you managed to have some good experiences while you were there. There is nothing worse then having an event like that ruined. -

For "European City of Culture" read "European City with a reputation for having no culture and which would like to change that with some free marketing" - that's how it has usually worked in the past.

Registered 8 years agosome people at work went to Riga on a stag trip and it didn't go that well, they went into some bar (not a seedy strip club and got charged a huge amount for a few drinks) After a lot of shouting and threats back and forth they paid the normal price and left.
Would not mind going to Vilnius -

Registered 7 years agonoticed alot of racism in Zagreb too.. we are all cauasian but any advertisement with black people in it had the black person scribbled out.. although when we went down to the coast (Split) there wasn't any racism that i noticed..cities always seem to be worse.. esp in poorer countries..
