    Needs own thread.

Was about to reply to someone in the Vita thread, I recommend you DON'T use your iron to make an Anvil. Shit's too hard to find and you'll want a better pick, armour and weapons ASAP.

Instead, make two houses or valid-rooms immediately when you start. The guide NPC will move into one. The second one if for a Merchant. pretty much the only useful thing he sells is anvils, for 50 silver I think. To get him to appear you just need to collect 50 silver coins and have a "valid room" ready.

Valid room is at least ten blocks wide, has a table and chair and torch, with a door. crafting table or regular table will do.

Crafting anvils uses 6 iron. Given hiw painfully slow the first pick is, I'd much rather save that towards a faster pick axe!

@ubergine a valid room must also be six blocks high. Not including the roof I think.

The height is easy, it's just as high as it allows you to go when you push right up.

The tutorial explains all that better than I could anyway. I just remember that I scrabbled around for ages to get 6 iron bars, I had already found 50 silver in my travels, then I made the anvil and THEN looked at the merchant who just appeared. And went GAAH!

The anvil is pretty much the only worthwhile thing he sells, although the lamp-hat is good before you can make the potions easily. The other stuff he sells I find in abundance anyway.

I find the merchant to be too expensive to be worthwhile.

Yes, but he doesn't pay for everything. But you might find he will pay for something you've converted slightly - eg he might pay nothing for wood but will buy chairs, or maybe be won't buy dirt but will buy mud bricks, I've not checked.

Sell all the worthless stuff/duplicates you find in chests. Or just use him as a trash can for dirt :D

Figured out how to sell to the Merchant. Barely worth it, IMO.

Still - doing some serious mining - found loads of jewels including diamonds :)

Don't know what to do with them, though :/

@Flying_Pig make a white lightsaber. Or white candles. Other than that I'm not sure.

I was playing until 2.20 this morning and I haven't done that in ages.

I have started on a small map and so far I have mainly been mining simple stuff like stone to build my many roomed house correctly and stop monsters from spawning inside.  I have just found a desert and started to make glass from all that collapsing sand.  My current aim is to add a toilet to my house but that costs valuable iron.

So is it best to find a cave and dig down from there or just start digging downwards and see what I can find?

That's what I  did. You might also notice caves beneath the surface as you travel along it. I've discovered a huge underground network of caves and caverns, which include some stuff way more interesting than iron :)

A gold pick is the main goal early on, although I think maybe you can skip even that if you manage to defeat the eye of Cthulhu early on, or was it Devoured of Worlds?

I'm pretty sure I'll be turning shop credit into PSN credit tomorrow and buying this and some other stuff, Rainbow Moon and FF3 maybe.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on, but I'm actually enjoying something on my Vita! :)

So far this is baffling but quite ace.

It's quite useful to show objects to the Guide. He'll show you what you can make out of it.

@ubergine as long as the infamous bug isn't there. Did he not make them on the Xbox at first.

My understanding is the vita version is at parity with the current Xbox version. That bug is long gone.

@Flying_Pig the stone in the corruption. Or the stuff that looks like it glows. Demonite I think. Looks light blue.

STOP OPENING THE FUCKING DOORS AT NIGHT.

    Thank you.

@andyc1980 - not in the corruption (too dangerous ATM), just randomly underground. Currently working towards a Gold Pick :)

@Flying_Pig possibly demonite then. It glows blue-white I think. Played a hell of a lot of this on my 360 so have a decent idea of what to do. Until Hard mode.

@andyc1980 well it was only 3 blocks, so not worth getting too excited over.

Glad I switched to a small map - still huge with loads to explore. It's all just more immediate.

Anyone know roughly how high the floating islands are?

@Flying_Pig can't remember exactly but I know that meteor shot ricochets back so if you get some then fire them straight up, they'll come back down if an island is above you.

Just a quick tip for ppl who don't know. If money is in one piggy bank it's in every one. Even on different worlds.

@Moot_Point there are separate threads for the different versions of minecraft, why not terraria. In fact there was already two terraria threads before this one. Just saying.

I'd sooner keep this thread separate for cross platform in this case. PC is at a different version, 360 has platform-specific bugs, and multiplayer isn't cross-platform. You could make arguments about that with any game I suppose, but. I think it's important for people to find it easier to discover what is on Vita and discuss that.

Before I realised there's tabs for PSP and PS1 games in the store, it looked like there's only a handful of games on the thing. I don't think the Store is set out very well at all.

Unfortunately, I had to choose between buying Rainbow Moon or this, as my "wallet" was 50 cents short of getting both and Sony demand I give them ten dollars more to get that 50 cents. Microsoft now have the advantage there, just letting you buy what you're buying.

I bought Final Fantasy Tactics instead (about $5 less) after seeing a string of rave reviews.
