Sounds like they're putting a bit more effort into this than the first videos suggested (the voice work on that Hi-Ougi video is still hilariously shit though). I'll certainly give the demo a shot; it was the music that put me off Innocence R more than anything else.

I think the more details that come out, the more it seems like they've given it more thought than Innocence R. Presumably had a bit more time to work on it, though, to be fair. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Not long to the demo now, thinking about it. Still can't believe it's less than a week to Christmas. Arg!

Some information about costumes, etc. You get costumes in the retail release for having played the demo. Swimsuits, naturally.

The demo was cack, so nobody cares. The bonus packin game looks more interesting.

@santashi Maybe! It's really frustrating as they seem to have moved backwards from the DS version on things like symbol encounters being replaced by random ones, while adding a strange and confusing new system with those weird air combo things.

I'm playing through Tales of Xillia 2 at the moment and the weapon switching and L1 actions they added from the first make it the second best Tales fighting system after Graces F, so there's still hope for the future. This game is a write off though.

@uiruki That's such a shame. I did have pretty high hopes for it. I may still pick it up at some point in the future but I'll dampen my expectations if I do.

Good to hear that Xillia 2 is up to scratch gameplay-wise. How's the story shaping up?

Story? Hahaha. It is like Sora no Kiseki The 3rd in that you are grinding battles through the previous game's areas, but they don't seem to have made such a pig's ear of the writing and the whole thing is good fun. The main character is basically just along for the ride, but they've made sure to give him some cool abilities and all the other characters react to him well.

You're not going to get a lot from the game if you don't like the previous one, but if you do then I think you will enjoy the character sub quests.

Tales of Hearts R is out tomorrow!

Here's a list of the first lot of crossover DLC. I'm curious to see the Repede costume and rather chuffed about the Mithos one (just been flicking through my Tales of Symphonia manga again and feeling all nostalgic).

    Or shipped today. :o

On a side note, CDJapan has put the shipping up by 400yen since I ordered, due to the bonus being a poster, but they didn't ask me for any more money. I think that's rather nice of them.

Let me know what you think of it, especially the battles. Perhaps it makes more sense as everything is introduced gradually, and Tales games often demo really badly.

I think an RPG is quite hard to make a good demo for, given its nature.

Hope you enjoy it santashi! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I agree with your point about RPG demos. I really didn't like the demo for Vesperia, but I loved the full game (I finally finished it!).

Namco seem to be particularly good at picking bad or annoying areas to demo their games with. For Vesperia they chose first an area with a big difficulty spike of a boss for 360, then one of the least interesting areas of the game for the PS3 version. Considering the effect of pre release demos on game sales, I think Falcom takes the best approach - wait a month or two after release and simply give away the first chapter of the game. You can transfer your save across and get enough of a taste for both setting and system to make your mind up fairly.

For ToIR the demo was set in the area that you run through to meet up with your mates at the beginning of the game. :p

Here are the DLC costumes for Tales of Hearts R that were mentioned earlier: Abyssal Chronicles link

The Repede costume is indeed quite funny, and Spada's outfit is always awesome. That cap!

Ugh, it's been got by customs. An 8.49 customs charge... plus another 8 in Royal Mail handling fees. :/

Might try to sell the poster (which I totally blame for it being caught, haha) to make some of the fees back.

Noooo, santashi, nooo! You should have waited! Turns out the original Hearts was better and people consider this a de-make because it introduces lots of weird bugs (characters floating through the air in battle, speech still going on while other characters start talking, speech gets clipped out for no reason) and the worst is a good chunk of players can't even complete it because near the ending, it just "Application Error" and quits out no matter what you do. They deleted skits, story scenes and huge parts of the original game, and you can no longer call in the funny Namco characters from other games as well, which makes it harder to understand character motivations and lessens the variety of plot development, and a lot of the added content is really in look and function and since they didn't remaster the DS movies it looks horrible on the Vita screen.

The consensus is that Hearts was such a strong game that it's still a pretty strong title, but the DS version is considered the definitive version. (Well, the same thing was true of Innocence R, but in that case it was just a really blah remake and the original game just better structured in all its parts. Neither of them sold well because of this. )

Big shame, that. Still, it isn't like there aren't loads of Japanese RPGs you can play on a vita - it is completely insane you can't get any of the "proper" PSP ones on PSN.

Don't tell me that when I've just dripped my way back from the depot (veeery rainy) to pay extra for the game! ;) Seriously, though, those sound like some very weird (lazy?) choices. I presume that the game ending bug at least should be patched, like Trails was (plus AC and other bugged games)? I'll have a look and see if I can see any news about that.

On the bright side, I've never played the DS version (weirdly the only Japanese DS games I own are the Higurashi ones...) so at least I won't be comparing too much.

Gosh... the rolled up poster is actually only slightly longer than the Vita box. The packaging could easily fit 4+ Vita games with posters that size in.

It's time for you to return the favor and tell me why you have import Higurashi no Naku Koro games for the DS and if they are any good/ don't have gobs of yucky fan service in them.

Also Trails had a bug? A Falcom game had a major bug? Really?

I actually got them because someone was selling the limited editions for 20 or so on the UK ebay (free novelty rubber, pft). :p I don't really remember any bad fanservice in them, but it was a while ago and I may have skipped past it if there was. On a related note, I really, really wish that Umineko didn't have any fanservice because I think some of my friends would like it otherwise. I find Battler's perviness creepy, personally, and I certainly don't want to pass it on!

Yeah, it was buggy. Here's a small article Siliconera wrote on it. They did fix it with a patch, though.

It took them a good while to come out with the patch, though, and there was very little communication from Kadokawa, Chara-Ani and Pyramid about it. I don't think you can really blame Falcom for that as they didn't make it, but at the same time it isn't exactly the first time an outsourced port for Falcom has had problems.

    Oh that! Ah yes. Whew.

For a minute there I thought a Falcom produced product had major bugs. That's like saying Santa wants to fuck your little sister.

Yeah, it doesn't "count" when its someone else because Falcom isn't big enough to do all the porting everyone wants them to do by themselves. :p

Being positive, quite a few of the problems you've highlighted in ToHR sound patchable. I haven't seen anyone mention the game destroying bug on any of the forums I've looked at, either, which I hope is a good sign. :)

As for storyline changes/omissions, is there any possibility it was done to fit in with the R series? Probably not, but you never know. How far into it are you?
