Honeymoons suggestions in Thailand

Never been to Thailand and never seen the appeal but everyone ever seems to rave about it so we are leaning towards it for our honeymoon, but have no idea where to start. Our 'requirements' are:

She just wants some pampering and nice beach
I want somewhere to go snorkelling and diving (beginner) so nice clear waters
No interest in going anywhere near the busy nightlife - looks like my idea of hell from what I've seen

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Edit: oops, added 'suggestions' and fucked up the title.

Sounds like you are looking for Koh Tao

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

I wouldn't go snorkelling or muff diving in Thailand; as you never know what's down there. :)

Never saw the appeal despite everyone raving about it, not that we didn't like the look of it, so willing to accept I'm probably wrong.

Why do you say avoid Fruit?

Is Koh Tao still all dive schools and not much else? Don't remember the beaches being up to much. Koh Lanta had a good mix of great diving and beaches, probably have spas as well.

Don't go to Thailand unless you actually want to though, it's a waste and you'd have to travel in country to get to the islands. You'd be better off going to an all-inclusive in the Caribbean that does diving maybe? They'll shuttle you from the airport to the resort, and you can eat all you like while she gets pampered.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Seriously, even in spite of all that, you should still go somewhere you both actually are excited to go. Going 'I don't see the appeal of Thailand, but everyone raves about it, so let's go there' sounds more like a decision you'd make about a lad's holiday than a honeymoon.

Yeah I get what you are saying. I think we are leaning towards it because on the surface it has what we want (e.g. the beaches of the Maldives, but with less of the artificial) and it is cheaper but more interesting as it will be my first time outside of Europe.

The food in Thailand is mind boggling food but you't get the best out of it if you're fussy eaters, it's quite a part of the appeal for me.

Yeah I love the look of the food. That Ko Phi Phi looks stunning but I can't find it on Hayes and Jarvis.

Have you looked at Virgin Holidays? They throw some megacheap deals out sometimes, plus book online through quidco and get 2.5% cashback.

We did a week in bangkok, a week in hong kong and then two weeks in Koh Samui n our honeymoon. Cultural city break stuff and then a full on beach extravaganza.

It was weird, to be honest. We were just going to do bangkok and a beach but when we got to the travel agent the week in HK including airfare, was only an extra 100pp or something ridiculous.

So, yeah, I would look into doing city for a bit and then the beach. You can get some good multi-stop deals and if you are going all that way its worth putting yourself about.

It's beautiful Mowgli and has some incredible small islands nearby you can go on day trips to but no-one is allowed to sleep over, incredibly unspoilt and pretty.

Do you need to go via Hayes and Jarvis?

    Seems well rated

The best food is in little street stalls or very cheapo looking restaurants which can seem daunting to some people but it's so well worth it. In a resort you won't encounter that but if you get out and about you will.

Also, fyi, the best place we went out of all three was Hong Kong. It rocked the shit.

See a multi-stop holiday sounds right up my street just not sure where to look for one. Only really tried Hayes and Jarvis as the Thomson site makes me want to twist a nut off (clearly not very experienced with holiday booking).

    Cheers local will try Virgin.

Thailand is a great choice. Cheap, entry level exoticism.

Not sure where the fuck Tameside wrongun is coming from.

I would 100% recommend going into a travel agent to sort something like this out. We booked tradewinds through Thomas cook and absolutely couldn't fault them and the agent in the shop put is onto the HK thing.
