My sympathies lie with those whose first FF game was XIII.

The only cure would be an MiB-style memory wipe and a copy of VI, VII, or IX.

VIII was my first JRPG and got me into the genre. VII was my second FF but I still think IX is better than both.

(My all time favourite FF is actually XII).

Danger with that though is that you might then play XIII for a second time.

First was FFX when I was 13

Then FF7 when I was 22 ! I then went on to play FF 1,3,4,6 in the space of two years and am now on 9

I'm really tempted with these Final Fantasy deals.

I have both the PSP and the Vita. Which device should I be using?

I only ask because I'm worried that the Vita's nice screen might show them up (in which case I'll use the PSP instead).

I think they look good on Vita.

    Have played 1-4.

Right, that's Final Fantasy VIII and IX bought, last one I played was VII so it has been a while :p
You will not regret playing VIII. The story is great, an interesting card game to learn, a huge map to unlock and explore (with lots of secret areas) and last and by no means least Quite a few guardian forces to find to help you on your quest. FFIX is more old school FF with each character having jobs within the party. Not played much IX, but thoroughly enjoyed VIII, moreso than VII. (see previous page for vid on FFVIII guardian forces).

Thanks Moot- I loaded up both briefly last night and they bought so much back. The little musical stabs and whatnot. I've very find memories of playing through VII with my other half watching on but I'm wary of playing it again in case it hasn't weathered well. 8 and 9 is enough Final Fantasy for quite some time anyway...

Am I the only person who really likes FFXIII? I don't understand the hate for it.

I bought dissidia 012 in the sale so I could play it on the vita. Was hoping they would make a new one but that's looking unlikely.

I bet you're not. If I could only play it (there is no PC release as far as I know and I don't care about big consoles anymore) I'd surely love it, as I seem to appreciate linear games more as I get older. I heard it's extremely linear which is exactly what I like to play these days :)
Oh and before somebody jumps at me I am no FF newbie, my favourite ones are FF IX, VIII and X.
I hated VII though, and never found enough time to at least half-finish XII.

How does FFVIII play on the vita? I've read bad things!

Also, I'm thinking this is finally the time I pick up FFIX and give that a go.

It's fine. You need to boost the screen size a bit- since it's native res is a small 4:3 window- but once you do and you also enable bilinear filtering, it's great.
You can assign the R1/3 and L1/3 buttons to the front and/or rear touch screens. Job done.

All, i'm looking on ebay for a Vita,

How much do you think I should pay top whack? I was thinking about 90

Ideally I just want it for the remote play for the PS4, but I have a PS Plus account so I imagine there is a load of good deals and free games etc... for the Vita too - correct?

Please help as quick as you can as the one I am bidding on ends in a couple of hours :)

    @mcmothercruncher

Ah, sounds good! It's payday tomorrow, so I'll pick it up then. If not for immediate play, then just for the next long journey.

@bobmar360 89.99 for wifi and 99.99 for 3G pre owned on games website then you don't have to deal with getting a dud plus you get a years warranty with game. Me & another guy off here both got one from them & were both in excellent condition.

Good choice Ceelion :D There's definitely a lot of people buying since the ps4 came out. Sony would do good to stick a video of remote play on each day's 'What's new?' preferably an upcoming title to make everyone watch it.

I'm actually preferring the "normal" screen setting now I've got used to it- it's not quite full (Vita) screen, but seems to strike the right size/fidelity balance for me. You forget about the borders after a short while, particularly as the OLED screen means the black isn't lit at all.

Everything running really well, but I am getting some audio stuttering during the FMV cutscenes which is annoying...

To wade into a couple of discussions:

My first was XIII, thought it was ok and got to the last boss. My real first FF was VII last year, which I enjoyed a lot, and I'm currently about half way through VIII which is even better. Both run fine on the Vita.

Going to pick up IX I think in the sale. Maybe dissidia as well.

My first was VII, never finished it when it came out though, rebought it a couple of years back and finally did it. Loved VIII when it was released, again never finished it then. Completed it on my Vita on holiday a year or so back, still holds up pretty well.

I'd have to say I prefer VIII to VII, controversial I know...

And I never really liked IX, although I was pretty young. Might give it another go soon. I've still got VI on my Vita to play, too.

I'm playing VII at the moment. 6 hours in and currently heading up Shinra. VIII is my favourite as well as I said a page or so ago, but open to seeing if VII is really the best.

I think I just loved the card game in VIII so much that it might be cloud(lol?)ing my judgment.

Downloaded VII, VIII and IX too :)

Started VII again last night....I think I must have got to the final disk first time round, then got bored. Or probably had other stuff to do, I was reminiscing to the kids that was playing VII when I first met their mum, which rather dates it.... Don't think I got too far into VIII....

Why doesn't the stick work for movement?

    The thumbsticks?
They do on VIII and IX. Does it need assigning in the emulation/overlay menu thingy?
Hold the PS button until it comes up...
