Used to live opposite a BT exchange, so had 18 months of 17 mbps, a chap from o2 said he'd never seen anything like it when he tested the speed.

Glory days are over now though, its something like 7 or 8.

I can't wait to see what online gaming is like with an excellent connection when infinity arrives.

The best thing about having a massive speed bump is the ability to multitask. Now I can play Fifa while downloading a show and herself can stream a TV show wirelessly over the network with no hitch to anything.

I just had BT Infinity installed. It is pretty awesome-

    59.92 down
    9.02 up

    connected wirelessly.

    That's an increase from about 3 up/0.4 down ^_^

o2 have been spamming me with emails and text msgs for the past couple of months, telling me that there upgrading the broadband my area. Thought it was bollocks as I didn't notice any noticeable increase in my connection speed. Last week I get a text and email telling me that works are complete. My internet speed has increased 10 fold! I'm getting 1.5Mbps now! Used to be around around 90-120kbps :))

That's really good, I'm on BT Infinity and get around 18 down and up. However they definitely throttle my download speeds on weekday evenings which pisses me off as they claimed they wouldn't do that when I ordered it.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

BT throttle the shit out of torrent downloads, but I can't say I've seen them doing it on normal downloads.

Just did a test on the house we're in the process of buying.

BT Reckon: "Between 1.0Mb and 3.5Mb (Estimated speed: 1.0Mb)"

Moving from a house where we get 3.5mb at very best. I would be really bothered if it wasn't for the fact the house is an absolutely bargain, is in the middle of nowhere, is a completely detached property and is costing us about 22k less than its actual value.

Can't get infinity or virgin fibre optic, and I've two large cities within 15 minutes drive of me :(

Yeah should have clarified that was torrent download speeds. Bloody annoying as I was looking forward to watching The Walking Dead last night after a shitty day at work.

The Dutch equivalent of BT, KPN, are offering a 500Mbps UP/Down package over fibre. Although I'm told its only experimental at the moment.

Well, it took me a minute to load up speedtest first.
    My speed is.......Still loading...
Keep in mind we're paying 65$ for this a month.
    309ms ping
    0.12Mbps Download speed
    0.36Mbps Upload speed
    Yep.

Turn encryption on in the torrent client settings and it avoids the throttle. At least most of the time it does.

Yeah, I'm thinking they probably do limit download speeds. For the last 2 days mine ihas been reading a decrease in download speed, but an increase in upload speed: around 50mb/s dl and 17mb/s ul. The way the readings are coming out, it seems like it's limited at 50.

Past five days I've been plagued by dodgy internet. My ping atm is 2600ms to London (I live in south east) dl is 0.49 mbps and ul is 0.37mbps.
    Welcome to the 21st century!
Munki try think broadband site, bung your postcode in and it tells you when their installing fibre and when you can place your order

Oh how I hate broadband speeds. When seeing the lovely site of bt working on my local cabinet and laying cables and what not my broadband has since nose dived. For the last week and a bit I have had a constant downstream of 1152Kbps but the upload rate has been jumping about like mad at the moment its 911Kbps. At this rate I'm going to be able to upload faster than I can download. I think EE have placed a cap for some reason. I called tech support who were meant to get 2nd line to call me back but its not happened yet :(

Getting really, REALLY pissed off about this at the moment. Going to need to move house soon because my missus has a new job which involves a shitload of commuting (from where we are currently). Seems that anywhere which is a decent place to live outside of the centre of the cities comes with the huge caveat of not having high speed broadband.

I'd live without it if it was just for personal use, but I work from home on remote servers and connection speed directly affects how fast I can work. (I have 100mb right now).

None of the areas I'm looking at are even on the infinity rollout list either. Just wonderful.

    @Psychotext

That really sucks. In my area the majority of the nice areas have really crap internet and all the council houses and undesirable areas have lovely fibre optic cable from virgin media. Virgin Media have no plans to expand to us but bt say that by Juneish this year we should have FTTC
