    Sod it.
    Bought one.

If you hear some maniacal laughter in about 10 years, it's because I've just sold it to some collector for 2,500.

If you hear weeping, it's because I'd gone to stick it on ebay, and Mrs Boo has just told me 'What? That old box? I threw that out years ago.'

Wow, you folded much quicker then I did. I hummed and hawed for weeks over that purchase. And it's still sitting in the box.

Over on the Brickset forum, they're counting the Amazon stock down to zero. People are buying one every couple of minutes now, and there's less than 20 left.

I would like to be able to afford a couple for investing. I keep the box and the bags for the bigger sets but there's still a big drop in value for being used.

Mine's still in the box because I wanted it for so long and don't want to start building it because then it will be finished and I won't have it to look forward to anymore. Which means I will have to buy more SW Lego.

I do need to go finish re-building my Vader Tie so I can finish the Battle of Yavin collection :)

It's why I don't like visiting the Brickset forum so much (the main site is genius though). It's full of resellers and Shylocks looking to make a quick buck off a childrens toy. It's depressing the depths they'll go to to make a quick profit. I should add there's a few great people there though, who do actually enjoy Lego.

In other news, after being back into Lego for nearly two years now, my Brickset stats tell me I have 212 sets (168 different), I have 98304 pieces (this doesn't include pick-a-brick and grab bag purchases, which I'd guess is another 20,000 at least) and they have retail prices for 150 of the sets I own, totalling 7496. Expensive addiction this :/

Jesus, that's some collecting. I was in two minds about getting the Forest Police set when it was half price to 30 quid in December at Argos. Didn't in the end, the price is sixty quid everywhere I've seen it since. Bugger.

I know what you mean about the forum. The number of people who have '4 of these' and '6 of those' stashed away.
Seems more like a business than a hobby.

But you're spot on about the main Brickset site. I look up one set, then start looking at the theme, then find something else... Fascinating amounts of detail.

Think I'll be getting one of the new Mindstorms. I have sold it as an educational item to the lass, and not just more "crap".

It's an expensive hobby that requires funding. I see no problem with it.

Would anyone like a LEGO 6011122 Lord of the Rings Elrond 6pc mini figure ?

Got it with the Lego LOTR game but the figure is of no interest to me.

Well boo claimed it first so it's only fair that he "wins" it.

PM me your details boo and I'll post it off in the next couple of days.

Well I've just finished building the unimog I mentioned a page back and just put it next to my old lego technic space shuttle, the cabin starts higher up than the top of the shuttles cockpit. Pity it's a bit to heavy for the steering though that said it's a stupidly impressive model.

    Pictures, man, pictures!!!

I treated myself to the Unimog at Christmas, but after attempting a couple of the tiny Technic sets to warm up, might have to work up to it.

Have you tried out the power functions yet? I built my Unimog a few weeks back (my first Technic set since a kid, when I got 8860 Car Chassis), but I never apply the stickers to my Lego, so had to trial-and-error all the switches to work out what does what. It also needs powerful batteries.

    A few on ebay: Description_here

And you can bricklink any pieces you're missing from childhood sets.

I know but it won't be the same, possibly if I could find a mint one still boxed up that hadn't ever been touch maybe.

Oh yeah and out of all of those the shuttle, crane and the bulldozer were the best ones as all the others have various design flaws.

Have you started searching out your childhood sets yet? That's how I got properly hooked on Lego via Brickset, was mooching around there for Classic Space sets I had as a kid, and it doesn't help the wallet that they provide links to ebay and bricklink where you can buy all the stuff /O\

Have you noticed the off-centre front axle thingy with the Unimog?

Yeah I have noticed that I've also noticed that the steering isn't up to the job.

You sound like the Technic aficionado here, I did look at some vids of guys who'd tried to motorise the Unimog (to move the wheels) and sort the under steer, but it seems out of my depth, this being my first Technic set since a kid. Seems like the new 9398 Crawler might be up your street.

    My first Technics car:

I still have the box for the Drag Racer. It's the only box for an old Lego set from my childhood that I still have which isn't for a train.

I forgot about that one khanivor, technically that was the first super car they did as it was called that. But we all know which one I was actually referring to since I posted it's number, that's the one I wanted but at the time it was far to expensive for me to get out of my pocket money.

Oh and I've seen the crawler in the flesh and while technically it's a great model it's not a nice one to look at and it just looked really ugly to me so I went with the unimog which has far more going on with it.
