mine was already updated. The online spec on the main menu should read. v 1.1

The online racing is fun, just simple in and out play.

If for some reason it isn't already updated, head to the eShop and search for Mario Kart 7. It'll load up a screen with multiple buttons, one of which will be DLC, which will contain the patch.

Resurrecting a dead thread just to say that Rainbow Road in this game is the best thing ever. I wanted to play a game for a bit, so I popped in Mario Kart and when choosing a track, I was like, let's go for Rainbow Road.

The Galaxy theme is magical, it has some of the best track gimmicks in the entire series, the music is amazing and it NAILS that happy spacey feeling that makes Rainbow Road so memorable.

    What's your favorite Rainbow Road?

Not played 7, but the original was great fun. The Wii one was too complex and awkward to be fun.

7 version is great. The wii one when you are having a bad day was really frustrating. and too twisty.

On 7 i always feel i can make an awesome comeback.

For me my favourite track is the alpine pass, i think it has the best use of gliding, only problem is even on fast setting its still slow. :( hope it can make a jump to a big console.

The water is kind of weird in Mario Kart 7. When it was first understood that the theme of 7 would be "Land! Air! Water!" I expected that to mean, "Mario Kart! Pilotwings! Wave Race!" Sure enough the flying felt like it was cut straight out of a Pilotwings game, but what we really got was, "Mario Kart! Pilotwings! Mega Man Water Levels!"

My favourite Rainbow Road is the DS version. It's like an F-Zero track in which you can hook up what feels like a perfect lap. Fast and satisfying to drive.

I do like the Rainbow Road in 7, but I don't remember it having any of the Galaxy theme.

Original SNES one is still the best for me though, mainly for nostalgic reasons. So happy to see it finally included as a retro track in 7.

The SNES rainbow road feels nice and tight compared to any of the later ones, especially the N64 snoozeathon. Not sure I remember the DS one to be honest, and I'm not a big fan of the 3DS one. Feels too technical and long, with lots of places where you can fuck up, but that's maybe just because I've spent too long time trialling it.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Bought this a couple of weeks ago but only just sunk my teeth into it. Awesome! I was a massive fan of the DS game and I was a bit underwelmed initially (50cc seemed way too slow and easy). The flying sections were really enjoyable though.

Started to really enjoy it on 100cc. Had a few online races (and how easy it was to get going, relatively speaking).

So I was reading something online which mentioned the cockpit view. "ERRRRM WHAT?", I thought. I didn't know about this feature at all! Tried it out and thought it worked ok after a few minutes. The game feels faster with the cockpit view, but the gyro controls weren't doing it for me. Anyways, I turned the gyro off and....there's no going back. The cock-pit view with stick control is awesome. The 3D effect is actually noticeable now, as a little bonus.

Does anyone else use the cockpit view? If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend it wholeheartedly with the gyro off and 3D on.

Only tried the cockpit view briefly, just feels so wrong in a Mario Kart game. :)

I'd agree with you if it weren't for two things. Firstly it's the easiest game in the series and secondly 4 player online just doesn't work as well.

I have come to the conclusion that this is the worst entry in the franchise.

    That is all.

I had more fun playing this than the Wii version. Favourite track is probably Koopa City.

It's the best entry in the franchise since the SNES version!

The blue shell, over abundance of weapons, weight unbalancing and a few awful tracks bring it down for me.

I do really like the Gliding and Kart customizations however. Hoping they both return in 8.

The Wii one is definitely much worse than this. But then this one isn't a particularly strong entry either.

The DS one is still the best IMO.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

Mario Kart DS was good, but ruined by the drifting mechanic (that lead to snaking). The controls in 7 are much more like the original SNES version.

It is lacking in content a bit compared to the DS version, but in pure gameplay terms this one wins out imo.

Yeah snaking did ruin the online which was annoying.

My controversial opinion, Sega All-Star Racing Transformed is the best "Mario Kart" game of the last 5 years.

Sega All-Star Racing feels a bit to unfocused for my tastes, but it certainly seems to be a reasonable opinion to prefer it as it does a lot of things I can understand people really enjoying, even if they aren't for me :)

Still not sure which Mario Kart I prefer though. I think the track list on DS pushes it ahead for me, but I prefer the feel of Mario Kart 7. Only just though.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Now that is controversial. I think it's an alright game, but i'm not a big fan of either the weapons or the tracks. That and some of the tracks are visually cluttered. It breaks my eyeballs.

Meh, not convinced the flying or swimming sections add anything, and the extra flying sections they've added as alternative results has ruined some of the classic stages, and online could give you more indication of what's going on (amongst other complaints), but the main meat of it it does very well, and plenty of the new stages will be fondly looked back on in years to come.

Nothing can knock the sublime DS version of the game in my recollection, and actually the GBA version is pretty special, as it contains all the SNES tracks only minimally fucked-about-with and handling that's also not far off (no coins or feathers though IIRC). I'd still say it's the third best handheld MarioKart ever though, rather than the worst ;)
