I bought my 2G iPod Touch solely to play games on. -
The man was a great benefit to the tech world, no doubt, and we'll miss his thinking. Let's not overplay his contribution to the gaming world though, he initially didn't want the app store and deliberately took Apple off the gaming path for a great many years - only really getting behind it when the game evolution took off on iDevices regardless and the money trucks started rolling in.

RIP, Mr Jobs. -

I wouldnt think that gaming is the *exclusive* reason, but im sure its becoming more and more dominant.

I said this in a thread the other day but, anecdotally, when I go out the disinterested tweenagers are all sitting, playing games on their iPods, whereas once it would have been a DS or a Gameboy.---------------------------------------------------------

iPod Touch has long been regarded as a gaming platform to people working on the iDevices - people that only wanted music generally stuck with the older gen tech for the greater storage. It was the lure of the apps that got the iPod Touch selling in vast numbers.

Registered 10 years agoI don't like touch control games at all. I prefer my buttons but I suppose some people do like the games seeing as companies make bucket loads from them.
Come and get it cumslingers!

Registered 7 years agoWatch videos, browse the internet... basically anything you can do on an iPhone other than call someone. But, yeah, if you are just fiddle farting around, the chances are you are going to stick angry birds on.---------------------------------------------------------

does that mean that I can't ask if anyone had checked that he really is dead rather than them just holding him wrong?
The iPhone 4S jokes in this thread are so predictable and amazingly unfunny I suggest 48 hour bans for everyone who inflicted them on us.
Protip: if you want to make crap jokes, you either need to wait a bit longer or make them a lot funnier. -

Original ipod and itouch devices. They helped bring about revolutions in music and mobile web use.
So, biggest innovation? I'm gonna go with putting USB on every iMac and forcing out the legacy connections.

Registered 5 years agoI got an iPhone4 mainly for gaming, but I didnt find it engaging at all. I still enjoy the quizzes, word games and flicking balls but the best thing about it is actually the torch.
Its sad when anyone dies this young but hopefully a fat chunk of his will can do some good for the third world. -

Almost everywhere you go now has free wi-fi, so its not really an issue. Even our local bus service has it. And, yeah, there may be other devices that do certain things better, but none that do them all.
dunno, I never had room for videos and internet needs wifi, surely you'd get an iphone if that's what you bought it for? Or any other number of devices that are better for internet and video than the ipod.
Im quite surprised there isnt an android equivalent, tbh.---------------------------------------------------------

Registered 10 years agoI think his biggest innovation was marrying design and technology - making gadgets beautiful and desirable (I appreciate this had been happening for years with hifi stuff, but he was the first to do it with computery stuff).
I'm still convinced the ipod revolution was based more on people wanting white headphones than the device itself. A lot of people didn't even know what they did. -

If Creative had been the first to make their HDD player (the DAP) pocket-sized Apple could have had a *very* different future. Creative thinking that people liked players the size of personal CD players was their biggest undoing
