Homer Badman is among the very best episodes they've ever done.

Comparing it to one of the newer series is like watching two different shows.

Nono, seasons 7-8 were the peak. You watch them and every line is well crafted.

It's currently (from the ones I see) better than it has been for maybe 7-8 years, but that's still way below the best. Think Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry... better than the horrific Czech ones, but not as good as HB.

SEE YOU IN HELL, CANDY BOYS!

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

It really is a genius episode. I loved it as a kid but I never truly "got it" until I was much older.

    A close runner-up

Unfortunately that video just misses off possibly the funniest bit, where Lisa swoons and says "Lee Marvin's dreamy...".

People forget it was once the best entertainment going. They should have ended it years ago IMO.

It truly is. It's got many parts to it, all good. A Star is Burns is still my favourite though. Not a wasted frame or word.

Was reading an imdb thread the other day and someone added up a top 10 list of the highest rated episodes. I thought it was a pretty average list overall so I decided to make my own top ten favourites:

    1) Homer The Smithers
    2) The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson
    3) Mountain Of Madness
    4) Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment
    5) Dumbbell Indemnity
    6) Marge On The Lam
    7) E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)
    8) Homer At The Bat
    9) Lisa On Ice
    10) El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer(The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)

Any comments on that list, or anyone want to add their own? I feel like I'm missing an obvious one I love but it's hard to be sure, it was also really difficult to fit so many greats into a small list. I think season 9 is my favourite but 6,7, and 8 are also excellent.

There's actually some controversy surrounding that episode:

Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, reacted negatively when he heard about this episode, feeling that it was just an advertisement for The Critic, and that people would incorrectly associate the show with him. When he was unsuccessful in getting the program pulled, he had his name removed from the credits and went public with his concerns, openly criticizing James L. Brooks and saying the episode "violates the Simpsons' universe." In response, Brooks said "I am furious with Matt, [...] he's allowed his opinion, but airing this publicly in the press is going too far. [...] his behavior right now is rotten."

I did enjoy it too, though.

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a ninja.

I did enjoy it too, though.

Season 9 is widely considered to be where the show started to lose its way. Most episodes after season 10 were rubbish.

All of my favourites are in seasons 2-8 I reckon.

Couple of my favourites that you have missed:

    Duffless
    Last exit to Springfield
    Rosebud
    Mother Simpson
    You only move twice
    And maggie makes three

Getting a cut of the back end is pretty unusual, and really only something the likes of Seinfeld can get. For them to try and get in on that after twenty years is a bit hopeful to say the least.

If I were them I'd push for as much cash as I could get, worst comes to worst Simpsons gets cancelled ten years too late and I retire with my millions of dollars.
