@Stickman I really fancy painting some chaos. I have a mounted chaos knight waiting for some paint... and about a billion OnGs.

Anyone fancy a complete Ultramarines Chapter? Only 7,000 quid plus change.

    http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440161a&prodId=prod2160196a&_requestid=2734405

You'll probably be painting them until the end of time.

    @meme
I bought a battle company during the last apocalypse release about four years ago. I'm less than half way through it. By that rate I'd of finished the full chapter by 2175.
Despite the fact that it would be at least a grand cheaper from online retailers, even then that's a fuck load of video games.

    Beastmen.

Time for some havoc..... Damn the new fluff that says every WE is a bezerker.

Also quite pleased at finally finding thon subscription-only Mk6 fella with chainsword at a decent-ish price. Bundled in the back of a badly undercoated Tac squad for 12 compared to double that for the lone figure elsewhere.

I don't think the seller knew what it was, and it'll do for a Sternguard. :)

After buying the humble bundle and enjoying blood bowl so much I think I want to get myself a team or two.

Anyone looking to offload any BB related models?

Went into one of these the other day as I used to play it when I was a kid and was thinking of getting involved again.

A single plastic character, think it was a space marine captain or something, cost 18!

Are they fucking mental!? 18! And it's just plastic as well. I can't even imagine how much a dreadnaught costs these days. Absolutely crazy, definitely not getting back into it.

Plastic has improved a lot since the old days, to be fair, it carries detail much better than the old stuff did. Not that that makes it cheap to do or anything, but the quality has risen with the prices, imo (bar the odd brain-fart from the sculptors).

While I agree that the prices are getting a little beyond a joke, think what that 18 will give you.

Sure, it's only one tiny plastic man but it's also hours of painting and then playing (if that's your bag, if not you can flog it on eBay and make some/all your money back).

That's how I sleep at night anyway.

Look at it this way. GW are struggling to survive in a world where everything is going digital. This is not about them gouging you, this is about a waning interest in physical media in favour of electronic, across the board. They are in the same boat as Waterstones, or Borders, or HMV. They are not a big company, and they are not making huge profits.

So think about what happens if they go under. The unified gaming system which they have built up over more than three decades, and which is unquestionably the most sophisticated, long standing and has the strongest and deespest narrative, is gone. Everything fragments, we get different rule systems and different lore interpretations.

It is expensive to be a hobbyist, but I'd rather pay what it takes to keep GW afloat than pout at the prices until they're forced to fold, and then wonder what happened.

I completely understand you but the thing is they could properly embrace digital and do the same games practically the same way. Micro transactions for models, and paint programs, etc. It would all be exactly the same, but digital.

And then they could continue to produce the models in smaller quantities for the enthusiasts as a bonus income.

I don't really understand why they're so reluctant.

Because then they'd be just another games developer, and a niche one at that. In a field they have next to zero experience in.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

And also because they make their money on the models themselves, the rule system is a classic loss leader.

Whenever i see this thread it reminds me that i have a load of this stuff up in my loft from when i was 15... That's 22 years ago now..!

Do GW buy this stuff back and sell second hand, or do i need to do the awful eBay thing..?

And depending on what the stuff is....it might very well be worth the eBay hassle.

    /made hundreds, spent hundreds

As for getting back in, eBay and Dettol go hand in hand. Bit of extra work involved, but stripping second hand stuff is far cheaper.

I don't think any of mine is Blood Bowl, its all space marines, Terminators, genestealers and tyranids. A few other bits and a few tanks, ships ect...

    Get brushing.....

Think I'll treat myself to thon Stormraven+Stormtalonx2 pack for Xmas. Just because I've found it on offer for sub-70 quid. Ooooo, but they'll clash with the RT Rhinos.......

/trying desperately to NOT purchase on a whim

Waiting on some Marauder heads for Scars, and got a bundle of Ogre sprues for 99p, giant skulls, plates and banners galore for the Khornate tanks. Lots to keep me occupied, so I definitely don't need flyers. No.

    Nnnngggh.

Theres some really 'good' deals on at the moment for those bundles. if I wasn't getting a ps4 id be all over both the tau and elder set.

I'd recommend fairy power spray over dettol for paint stripping. It smells marginally better.

Yeah that marine flyer bundle is a bit good. What gets me is people complain GW is expensive then list alternate products where the prices are as bad and the models are worse with less options ! Dropzone Commander makes GW look cheap, Warmachine has less models but is a sod to assemble in most cases and its all about one win or lose turn in the end....historical is cheap but very very difficult to get opponents for as everyone is collecting some niche.....

BTW rumour mill has new Tyranids incoming with a possible new expansion to allow select super heavies in regular 40K along with that oh so rumoured special unicorn of GW the plastic thunderhawk gunship

GW needs to do that model, anywhere between 100 and 150 and its pure win. Below 100 and it'd be crazy time.

Tyranids then Imperial Guard is what I've heard for 40k. Dwarves for Fantasy inbetween and then Wood Elves after, iirc.

Hmmm, it does seem to be IG before Orks. Boooo! I've got about a grand of Orks sitting in their boxes that I don't want to make before the new codex comes out and massively gimps something everyone uses now.

Just catching up on 40k radio podcast. Good to see GW staying true to form and threatening three guys who enjoy the hobby with legal action if they continue to talk about rumours or leaks.
Add this one to Wayland Games, Beasts of War and Miniwargaming.com and they're really doing a bang up job of shitting all over the community that supports them. Of course, let's not forget their heroic battle to ruin a self published author for using the term 'space marine'.

I love their products but as a company they really are led by an absolute shower of cunts.

Oh yeah, they're horrible to deal with on any kind of business front, sounds very insular and just kinda odd. They really seem to be leaking gamers at the moment as well, though these things are often circular and probably kinda localised.

Still, it's going to be interesting to see where they are in 5-10 years.
