I don't consider Bayonetta's awesomeness as a reason to get excited about this. Hopefully it'll be more than just a Gears clone, but I'm not getting a vibe off this one.

I know, look at the screen tearing in the image I pasted. I wasn't joking.

So there's no MP in this eh? I'm a little more interested now.

According to the article in the latest Edge it's running on a modified Bayonetta engine, so you may not be out of the woods yet.frod_ wrote:

I can believe that.
It's rumoured to be a PS3 developed game, that'll be 1 Wii, 1 360 and 1 PS3...

Registered 7 years agoFamitsu update on Vanquish, via AndriaSang / VG247:Vanquish begins in space, on a cylindrical colony known as Providence. This is actually America's 51st state. It was created in order to gather solar energy. The energy that it gathers in its power generation plants is converted into microwaves and beamed down to Earth.
Space Nazis!
This is where the expected "but" comes in. Someone has taken over Providence and converted its power plants into weapons of mass destruction. The enemy targets San Francisco with a blast of energy from the colony, instantly wiping out 500,000 lives.ツ

Registered 7 years agoMikami has confirmed in an interview that it's the Bayonetta engine. I'll write this one off I think.
Not only does it run poorly on a PS3 in the first place, for some strange reason the PS3 version of the engine looks absolutely hideous hooked up to an SD display.
Bayonetta looked worse than most PS2 games for me, with a jerky unstable feel due to the frame rate and tearing plus the graphics in general looked pish. Not a patch on the bright clean colours of God Hand for instance, which doesn't judder or tear either. Plus Bayonetta PS3 had a weird lighting glitch that leaves a visible graduated blue band across the top of the screen. -

Just my 2 cents gents : Judging by that video it's a real shame that this won't have any form of Multiplayer whatsoever.
Now , before we start again the usual "games don't need shitty tacked-on MP components" debate , let me say that i'm not really into MP in general and that - yes - it's better for a game not to have MP "tacked-on" just for the sake of it , thing is , judging by the newest trailer the game seems like a "normal" cover 3rd person shooter but on steroids , i don't really see how something like this wouldn't work in a multiplayer environment...
My opinion is that they lack the proper funds to RnD and produce a multiplayer part , not to mention that they most probably think that implementing MP in a "bad way" (since they lack the knowledge of "proper" online gaming) will bring the general review scores down...
Anyway , it's still a Mikami game , so....gif)

It's leading on the PS3 yes, the underlying technology they're using was built for the 360 though. Even with the PS3 as lead there will be a massive performance gap, The PS3 version of Bayonetta basically ran at half the frame rate with killer tearing and heavily cut down textures and lighting plus the horrible blur anti-alising that multi-platfrom ports always seem to use. Plus there was no PS3 specific loading optimisation at all out of the box, in the end Sony stepped in and went for the easy solution of making a HDD install patch.
I thought they were leading on PS3 with this one? Was that a hoax?
Despite leading on the PS3 it's unlikely to match the polish of native PS3 titles.

Um... You do know that about half of gamers are still using SD displays don't you?
Why on earth would anyone use an SD TV with a PS3 in this day and age?
I haven't been that impressed with HD displays so far. Too many niggles such as moving objects juddering rather than moving smoothly as they always do with a CRT.
I actually had a good chunk of money saved up and was thinking of buying a display soon but my four year old PS3 is showing signs of imminent death with lots of graphics glitching when playing games. I'm not even sure if I'll bother replacing it. There just aren't enough games that appeal to me coming out to justify the cost. -

Registered 5 years agoThat does look far more interesting than any previous footage that's been shown. It's also the first time that some of the mechanics are explained in depth, at least to my knowledge. -
I wonder what the music is like. Is it normal and did they purposely take out background music in demonstration videos? I know there's music in the "story" trailer, but I really don't recall hearing bgm in most of these gameplay videos, though I could be wrong.
