I love pastel, or coxinha. With nice cold caldo de cana. Street food in Britain is shit really, isn't it?

I've just remembered, I'm going in January. Third trip, this time we'll hopefully visit Salvador, the oldest city in Brazil. It'll be fucking scorching.

I'm going after xmas, also for my third time - Iguaçu Falls, a beach resort called Ubatuba (where my in-laws live) and then Sao Paulo for a few days

Anyone visiting SP should try the big food market http://www.mercadomunicipal.com.br/ - i'm not generally one of these people who comes back from a holiday and moans oh why do i have to live in the UK... but I have to say, that market in SP really made me irritable with our high end food markets, like Borough Market, which is comparatively tiny and lacks choice, but is expensive, unfriendly and pretentious

I loved Sao Paulo when I was there, mainly for the nightlife. Live samba and pagode, caipirinhas and endless dancing. But the street markets were brilliant too, as I remember it.

Also, i've seen on the previous page there was some discussion about Copacabana, well it didn't seem too bad to me but you do have to keep your wits about you... On the beach in the daytime, though, and on Ipanema beach, there was so many people selling souvenirs, drinks, etc that it was difficult to relax. So I probably won't hurry back to Rio, having now done all the major tourist things there, although the restaurant I went to there omg was the best!

    Which restaurant?

Helpfully, I can't remember, but its from the same people who run the world-famous (and much more expensive) Porcao in Rio, basically a diffusion range... will have a look through my pics and post the name later

Also if you got to Cococabana, be prepared to be besieged by whores if you drink in a bar near the beach.

Is it like everywhere else in Brazil, where most of the prosties have bollocks? Or so I'm told.

    Which restaurant?

It was Carretão churrascaria, Rua Siqueira Campos. Not reccommended for vegetarians or weight watchers!

On that point, t is amazing how, when Brazilian cuisine can be pretty unhealthy, everyone seems to be rake thin grrrr

Never got that far. Though the ones in the strip clubs (stag do) were ladies, or good post op!

They were actually quite nice, I had a few conversations whilst at bars and they had some interesting backgrounds and lives. Not the stereo typical bad backgrounds you would expect, just pursuing the cash where no other prospects were available.

There must be a scientific link between amount of time spent strutting around in exceedingly tight swimming trunks and lower overall body weight.

They tasted like bollocks that's for sure.

I'm looking at South America for my next trip. I hear that not only are Brazilian women absolutely beautiful, they love white guys, especially Brits.

    Is this true?

Haha! Complete myth. How can you generalise a nation as huge and diverse as Brazil?

Different women like different stuff. Same everywhere.

You've missed my point, ecosse. I was replying to the 'all Brazilian women are hugely attracted to white men' concept.

And I say it with some sense of irony, being married to one (a Brazilian woman, that is, not a white man).

So you just clicked your fingers then Banjo? :p

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

So here I am in sweaty Rio.

So far seen huge roaches carrying away a dead body, and the airport smelled of chips.

What shall I do today? Thinking beach and then all you an eat meat.
