60 to repair outside of warranty usually. GAME are doing new 250gb for 149.99 in their sale right now. Also rumours of a price cut announcement at E3 in June. Good luck!

Mine looks as though it's gone. No RROD as such. Screen on the TV doesn't seen to be getting a signal through.

Just plugged the PS3 into the HDMI cable and that's fine. Will ship it off to MS soon. Got the PS3 to keep me going. Going to try my second 360 to see if that works.

Meh! Guess I'll just have to start playing Uncharted 2 and LBP2 ;-)

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Rather than starting a new thread, anybody got any idea why my xbox has just decided to eject games of its own accord?

Its also being noiser than normal. Its just turned 3 years old, so I guess a RROD could be imminent?

    EDIT:

Turns out that it did indeed. Fuck. :(

I thought my Xbox had RROD. I realised I'd just unplugged the HDMI cable by accident

    Brilliant timing.

I bought a slim for 115 last week too, but sold it to a mate.

It hasn't RROD'ed yet, do I have to wait until it does before I can send it for repair? How long does it take to repair? Is it a lifetime warranty? Ahhh.

Fuck this is annoying. I just got Batman and I have Battlefield 3 arriving next week. It couldn't have packed in months ago when there was fuck all to play, could it?!

They want 100 to fix it, which I'm obviously not going to do.

Might as well have a crack at repairing it myself, anyone know any good guides?

Is it less than three years old? Graphical corruption would be covered under the one-year warranty, RROD and E74 are covered for three years.

If it's less than three years old, you could use the towel trick to take it that bit further into RROD-town. Or you could use the towel trick to fix it (!).

    Mine died last Friday :(

It's currently just arrived in Germany for repair so looks like I'm gonna have to wait till the new year to play any Xbox.

Just on a side note did anyone else feel they got conned by Microsofts price for repair? When I booked my Xbox in for repair on the site it said 62 but when I checked my credit card statement they charged me 74.40!!!

I double checked the invoice and they'd added 12.40 for VAT. I was really pissed off cos when I booked the repair in it definitely made it seem like the whole repair would cost 62. I'm sure it was in the small print somewhere that the 62 was only the net price but they really didn't make that clear. Very sneaky of Microsoft so they better do a good job!!!

turned on my 20gb first generation 360 which is a shocking 6 years old in a few months (feels like only yesterday I was playing Fight Night Round 3). hven't switched it on in almost 2 years, Mass Effect 2 still in the drive. I've moved two countries and it has been moved around a lot in boxes. I expected problems, but got none. Works perfectly, updated without a problem. No RROD. I wanted to share this happy story :)

My box is starting to hard lock frequently. Maybe once out of every four times I put it on. The dashboard as blades also grind extremely slowly. On top of that I've had one or two unreadable disc errors, one whilst the game was running.

It's a box that was sent back from repair so I don't think there is any hope for a free repair if it does kill itself. :(

Replacing the x-clamp with a screwed version brought me a further year.

But problems again now. The reason for the first time was leaving it on overnight to download a mandatory xbox live update. And the second, leaving it on half a day downloading game trials for what I wanted to play next.

I'm sure brief ~1hr gaming sessions helped it last this long - will probably take it apart again - and screw it together even tighter.

And vacuum my room and move it from the corner.

I may as well make holes in the case top as well now and mount it horizontal. It's been vertical all it's life as it looked to me with an unmodified case it would keep cooler.

As long as you are within three years of the date you bought your original 360, the Microsoft warranty will continue to cover the cost of replacements or repairs, however many boxes you burn through... provided they fail with the RROD, though, which you might have to cross your fingers and hope happens.

I'm fairly certain that I'm not. Think I'll be looking at a new purchase if it does lock up for good.

I'm trying to fix my brother's 360, I've replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. That seems to have downgraded it from 3 red lights to 1 red light and the E74 message. I've looked around but I haven't found any good solutions so far, anyone fixed it themselves?

MS refused to repair mine for free and asked for 75quid. told them no and bought a replacement console (no wires or pads but with hdmi) on ebay for 50quid

@KD I suspect it'll end up costing me as much as buying working console from Ebay but I'd really like to fix this one if I can.

I've done a bit more research and it's looking like I'm going to have to reball the GPU which is quite out of my league. Looking on the bay I found these stencils which would mean I wouldn't have to solder anything, just blast it with heat. That does mean buying a heat gun though.

Ok, not an RROD, but in the heat of the past few days, the fans in my Xbox have started to sound horrific. It's not like a slightly irritating background noise anymore, it's actually kinda hard to hear over.

Anyone else experienced this and if so , can I expect it to return to non ear splitting levels when summer's over (tomorrow most likely)?

Jab a knife in the ports at the back that stopped mine from making any sound.
