Couldn't find a specific thread for this though I'm sure the remake of John Carpenter's remake of The Thing has been mentioned a few times here and there. Anyway:

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

The new film will lead up to the events of Carpenter's film.

Hmm. A prequel sounds like a pretty dull premise imho. We already know how it turned out for the Norwegian team, and we already know how The Thing works and how it behaves.

Yeah, but it'll finally explain how the dog got there. Finally!

At least this means everything will still have to look like it's 1982, with big chunky computers, beards and jumpers.

Yeah, actually a horror film set in the 80s would actually be quite cool.

I miss the 80s, when we thought that you could just type into a computer 'What is the likelyhood of virus spreading?' and it would just say 'Inevitable'. Or something.

This is a stupid idea. The first film is fine as a stand alone and they will only be able to take away from the story not add to it.

Yes, but do we know about the scantily clad teenage students who were there BEFORE the Norwegians on a ski-ing holiday partying it up and having pre-marital sex before being picked off one by one until one of them is revealed to be THE THING?

No, we don't. It's a story that needs to be told, and only modern Hollywood can tell it.

I'm all up for this. Worst case scenario: its bollocks but then it can be ignored.

Anything else = Antarctic horror FTW :D

This still happens - now you don't need to type it in, though. You just ask out loud and a faintly creepy, occasionally mocking female voiced computer replies with the answer.

They could cover the discovery and exploration of the alien craft in the prequel as well, which would make it a bit different than the original Carpenter remake.

Every film I've seen computers in recently has had them controlled almost entirely with keyboards.

    :/

What do you control your computer with? The power of your mind?

Apart from web-browsing and design tools, it's quicker to use the keyboard on a computer.

I bet you actually click on the 'Submit Reply' button, you could just hit Tab then Space.

It could show The Thing actually coming to Earth, because we see it landing right at the start but we don't know why it came here. Like, maybe it was goingthrough a messy divorce and needed to get away for a break and murder some other lifeforms.

Or like a lost weekend in Amsterdam, but with shapeshifting and mass murder instead of dope and hookers.

what's the betting that they have a female scientist who just happens to be the world's leading authority on freeze-dried aliens despite the fact that she barely looks old enough to have left school let alone hold a PhD?

Going on the strength of the Fog, Assault on precinct 13 and the Halloween remake. I think this thing will suck and tarnish the image of a classic Horror movie. On the plus side it could draw people to the original which is a good thing :)

Flippin Prequels are boring. I don't understand what the obsession with them is in Hollywood..

Once again Hollywood fails to grasp that what you don't know is often scarier than what you do know.

I'm surprised they haven't done a prequel to the Alien films that shows the original creators of the aliens training them up and pointlessly explaining their motivation.

I just wish they'd leave well alone. I've mentioned this is other film threads and the movie industry is going down the toilet if you ask me. WTF can't they come up with an original ideas instead of creaming of films that were made years ago?

Why would you remake The Thing? It is utterly brilliant and still stands up today. I don't get it.

Oh. I just read the OP. So it's not a remake then? :)
