So you Geogoogled instead of geoguessing basically.
I managed to get 16k sofar but that was just by looking about and randomly pointing out a possible location on the map. You know... guessing as it were.

It's actually incredible fun to Geo-google. My friend got within 20cm of one spot. It's like being a real life detective.

I've turned off all the avatars and crap, so don't expect me to be impressed by yours.

She's 13 and she called him an ape. Sure, it was a stupid thing to say, but imo the reaction was a bit over-the-top, with her family being taken into counseling, her picture plastered over the news, etc.

The guy has publicly forgiven her and asked people not to hound her. He's a class act. The media going mental is another thing altogether.

Yeah, but Goodes also said this:

    "Racism has a face. It's a 13-year-old girl."

It has died down now, but that comment was completely over the top. She's 13! She was pissed off that her team was losing, and probably had no idea what she was saying.

Which of course is not an excuse, but really... that'd be pretty low on the heirarchy of insults that he's probably had to listen to up until now.

Do you think she meant it in a "racist way" or more to do with how hairy he is or something?

To be fair he probably had no idea at the time that she's only 13.

"Only" 13? You might not be massively savvy at that age, but I've got a 13 year old niece and she knows perfectly well what's right and wrong and what would be considered racist (especially as it seems many jokes now contain racist elements to be edgy).

    SNAAAAAKE!

Great little Adult Swim flash game. You're basically a snake that destroys lots of things. That's all you really need to know.

Yes I did GeoGoogle (good word!). I have GeoGuessed quite a few times too and got around the 16k mark like yourself.

I don't think GeoGoogling goes against the spirit of it. By trying to find exactly where the start point was I learned a little bit about each place I had to find, I now know that there is a monument in Volgodonsk called the Peace Atom and that you can go to the Arctic circle via the Dalton highway in Canada.

I think it is more of a challenge and more educational to try to get the exact point by searching landmarks etc. on Google than it is to take a guess that a town is somewhere in Russia because the sign posts look Russian.

yeah I guess. I quite enjoy the "look around a bit" try to deduce where the heck you might be from the way lines on teh street are painted, the signs, the language and have a stab at it.
A bit like you'd be dropped there without a smartphone and you'd have to work it out.

I guess trying to research it can be equally fun. I'll have to give it a go sometime.

Two suckiest points I got dropped sofar was a road running through the middle of a big empty landscape, going off to the horizon in both directions with not a sign or building in sight. :-)

I got 0km as a result in my run, one of those roads into nowhere in Alaska, but followed it to a sign and then tracked back.

I must have spent 10 minutes clicking up one of those roads and finding no signs or any kind of landmark. I returned to the start point, turned around and there was a sign right behind me all along!

This game has made me wish I had the time and money to travel the world a lot more, some of the places are stunning and I would never have looked them up otherwise.

I like how you are playing it in a completely different way than I. One that makes a different kind of sense. I might try it some time. As it is I'm constantly misplacing Australian places.
