UK charts: Wii Fit shakes off Wolverine

SingStar: Pop Edition out of tune.

Wii Fit stays atop the UK All-Formats chart for a fifth consecutive week, outselling newcomer X-Men Origins: Wolverine by nearly two to one.

The brutal third-person movie tie-in is ahead of a surging FIFA 09 at three, however, which is followed by Wii Play at four and Resident Evil 5 at five.

Mario Kart Wii boosts a little to six, last week's newcomer Riddick falls to seven and EA's meaty-IP sequel The Godfather II tumbles to eight.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Call of Duty: World at War round the top flight out at nine and ten, respectively.

Meanwhile, newcomer SingStar: Pop Edition falls on deaf ears at 32, and quirky DS game Rhythm Paradise - where players must maintain rhythm in absurd situations - manages a debut at seven in the DS-specific chart.

Movers of note are Halo Wars re-entering the fray at 25, Sonic Unleashed speeding from 40 to 21 and Street Fighter IV leaping from 25 to 11.

Bloody hell! Wolverine is on almost every format that exists and still gets beat by Wii Fit. Didn't expect that. I might have to buy Wii Fit to see what it's like.

It's not shit if you know what you're getting, but it is overpriced.

I picked up Resident Evil 5 the other day. I must say that I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did the demo.

I'm expecting some mini-games based on leaning and general tiltage, that I'll enjoy for the first couple of days then get bored with and not use again. Is that about right? I'm a sucker for peripherals, even ones I know I won't use.

Are a bunch of really fat people buying Wii fit double so they can stand on 2 boards with separate feet or something?

Now the latest Singstar has bombed they can focus on on the online delivery of songs/features instead of this messy halfway house where some songs only appear on disc.

I've bought lots of songs online but I'm not swapping discs.

Rockband had the right idea with the unlock key. I wouldn't mind if they made me insert this disc for a few seconds every few months just so they could validate that I still had the disc and hadn't just rented it.

Every time someone buys a copy of Sonic Unleashed, the next Sonic game gets 10% more terrible.

I am starting to think that nintendo are holding onto wii fit stock and releasing just enough every week/month to keep it at number 1. If there was enough stock it would have just outsold everything else by 99999999999999 to 1 for 2 weeks and then left the charts.

I think the game charts are much like the music charts these days, nobody actually cares what rubbish the masses are buying as long as you play/listen to what you like.

Indeed. Games are now mainstream, and everyone knows the mainstream has terrible taste.

Last week 5, this week 5. Resident Evil 5 - it knows no other number.

You know I lose more faith in the British populace every day.

12 years of labour, and god knows how many weeks of Wii Fit.

    Surrounded by idiots.

Does everybody buy 4 copies of wii fit because the first copy doesn't work? or is the fitness industry so much bigger than the entertainment industry. :p
  • EmiliasHorse #16 3 years ago

The local Game moved all the 360 stuff to the back in favour of the Wii, that means the fat lazy sods wanting Wii Fit no longer have to walk the extra 10 yards to pick up the box.

    These days?

Check any chart back in the early 90s, or pretty much any time for that matter. Nothing has really changed with the charts. I dug up an ELSPA Chart from years back (mid 90s) a while ago, loads of sequels and licensed rubbish at the top of the chart (as well as the usual EA Sport updates)

Anyone who thinks things are somehow different now is wearing a rather large pair of rose tinted specs.

I think the resurgence of Halo Wars and SFIV can solely be put down to the fact that HMV slashed 'em to £20 each!
