Ubi to launch new games on Facebook News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

20 July, 2009

Ubisoft has launched a new web gaming portal via Facebook, titled UbiFriends.

The first game, TickTock, is already up and running. You answer multiple-choice questions about your friends' status updates, trying to identify who said what. Then you can send "bombs" to other people's Facebook accounts, which they must answer questions to defuse. Perfect for irritating casual acquaintances of a Monday morning.

"We've been a leader in the art of making games for many years, and we're happy to bring the Ubisoft experience to Facebook, " said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America.

"Our first application, TickTock, is about leveraging user generated content to interact with your friends, and it's the first of many applications that we're building for our UbiFriends portal."

I was actually thinking about a Twitter game just this week when I read how many people use it and Facebook is an even better option. Good thinking by Ubisoft to capitalize on the enormous Facebook community. Now I'm anxious to see just how many people are actually going to play these games.

If I am an average user, not many people. I have long since responding to any Mafia War requests, beer that has been sent, kisses that have been blown, in short, I only respond to actual messages.

/missed the point of Facebook.

Sounds like a fun(ish) game, but I'm always cautious of big-name commercial endeavours into the world of Facebook. Because 9 times out of 10 they completely miss the point, and use it primarily as a platform for advertising/revenue rather than primarily focusing on it being useful/fun. See: Scrabble.

@MrED209:

I'm still thinking, which could already tell me it's not going to work... Still, every challenge can be solved with a little bit of creativity, so who knows :)
