Trio for XBLA this Wednesday

Greed Corp.! Lazy Raiders! Fret Nice!

This Wednesday we're being treated to three new games on Xbox Live Arcade. They are Greed Corp., Lazy Raiders and Fret Nice.

Xbox Live community manager Graeme Boyd Tweeted confirmation this afternoon, but mentioned no prices for any of the games.

He didn't give details either. Unfortunately that means I've had to do some research.

Greed Corp. - a turn-based strategy by W!Games - explores what industrial revolutions do to environments. Each tall, standing hexagonal piece of a map will disintegrate and fall apart if mined too vigorously for resources. Thus, how you manage your resources will dictate your level of success. The Greed Corp. website has pictures.

Fret Nice is an intriguing musical platformer that uses the Guitar Hero or Rock Band guitars as controllers. Nail riffs to trigger combos and pull off power chords to send out stunning attacks. Presentation is akin to LittleBigPlanet. Pictures on the Fret Nice website.

Lazy Raiders is an action puzzler with Xbox Live Avatar integration. Here you must tilt and flip levels in order to move a 'lazy' character through them. There are three different settings - Seven Cities of Gold, Arctic Caves, Wild West - and apparently over 11 hours of gameplay. There are pictures on the Lazy Raiders website.

What I wanna know is, when is Fez coming out?

Now, i'm using the EG app...but does the little writeup link to each game's website on other browsers? Or was that genuinely considered too much effort?

I'd put money on Fez being part of the Summer of Arcade this year, I don't think we'll be seeing it any time soon.

Hope they show Spelunky soon as well!

Yeah, I think Fez was announced as an early 2010 release, but it wouldn't surprise me if they kept it back until the Summer of Arcade.

There's a video too on the lazy raiders website, looks interesting

Never heard of any of these and based on these desriptions I'm not going to investigate further. I think David Jaffe has a point actually that on your hd home console the big commercial games are much more attractive options. I know I'll be getting the xbla version of Rare's Perfect Dark soon. When it comes to quirky indie games I'm much more likely to buy that stuff on my iPhone and it seems the majority are like minded because they sell better on that platform. That's not to say I haven't bought a ton of small games from little devs on xbox, but they've just piled up now and I rarely touch them any more because I'm playing forza or banjo on there instead.

Spelunky with achievements is going to eat my life. I spent far too long playing the PC version last year. Awesome little game.

Maybe you should have a look at the websites, Carrotcake. Having watched the trailer for all three, I was amazed at the quality these community games are now evolving into. All three seem like great, original and creative games.. Something we often miss from the big commercial games.

David Jaffe is also bitter that Calling All Cars was a flop. XBLA has plenty of smaller games that are far better than a lot of full releases. It just takes more to stand out.

    Man I have a Trials HD itch but my X-Box is 300 miles away ;_;

    Yeah, yeah, yeah.....

    GIVE US PERFECT DARK, ALREADY!

Only the incessant snow is maintaining their promise of a "Winter release"

Lazy Raiders does look good. Puzzle-platformer, not a million miles away from Braid. Not saying it will be that good, but seem very promising.

"I think David Jaffe has a point actually that on your hd home console the big commercial games are much more attractive options"

A remake of a 10+ year old game isn't exactly your average 'big commercial game'. It's a remake cashing in on nostalgia factor, for those who played the game on N64, which means you're a certain age right now, which means you're probably slightly more discerning than someone who purely buys the big titles.

I think Perfect Dark XBLA is a curio re-release from a major developer, which they made because it's relatively cheap for them to do so, and because they wanted to stick out GoldenEye but that got stuck in licensing hell.

It will sell shitloads, but bolstered by the fact that everyone and their dog played Perfect Dark N64.. not because loads of newcomers are going to suddenly catch onto this slightly upgraded but pretty oldschool game.

No, the most attractive options are games which are actually good, not shovelware or ill thought out ugly titles, which the majority of games on both PSN and XBLA are, sadly.

I'm always down for turn-based strategy, but... environmental stuff? Oh wait, at least it seems there's cute little robots, so that's alright then! I'm waiting for that.

Now that I checked their site out, Lazy Raiders surprisingly looks cute and unique. Nice.

According to Major Nelson, Fret Nice will cost 1200 points, while Greed Corp and Lazy Raiders will cost 800 points each.

At that price Lazy Raiders is rather tempting. Roll on Wednesday I say...
