Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 unveiled News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 2 PSP PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Dan Pearson

12 March, 2009

Astonishingly, EA has decided not to ditch its hugely popular Tiger Woods golf licence, instead announcing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for the Wii, PS3, 360 PSP and PS2.

Wii-owning golf fans will be pleased to hear that EA has promised full MotionPlus support, allowing for improved, swing-controlled draw, slice, chip and complete mishit.

The latest entry in the long-running series also plans to "take golf fans inside the ropes to experience the drama and emotion of tournament golf", which sounds really quite stressful.

Producer Mike Taramykin reckons the game "recreates the atmosphere of the PGA TOUR like never before", so much so that it has to appear in capitals.

There's a whole raft of new features available, although the rules of actual golf remain the same. A key feature is the "expanded" crowds which will surround each hole, adding tension and excitement.

New courses and competitions are on offer as well, with the US Open the big draw among the new options, but USGA rules and structure are also available.

There will also be real-time weather conditions, meaning that the game will reflect what's actually happening on the course you're playing at that very moment.

Elsewhere, a new commentary team will feature televisual golfing luminaries Scott Van Pelt and Kelly Tilghman. We've googled both, and they're not being chosen for glamour, so don't bother. In fact, Tilghman was briefly suspended for making a poorly-judged comment about lynching Tiger Woods in January last year, so presumably that's all water under the bridge just behind the dogleg on the fourth hole now.

No date has been given yet, but we wouldn't be too surprised if the tradition of early autumn releases continues.

Check out our Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 screenshot gallery to see how it's shaping up.

Weather. Not time.

/feels stupid having to explain it.

Anyhow, this looks rather excellent despite my hatred of golf.

They need to sort the gameplay out.

I don't know about anyone else, But I get bored quickly of birdieing every hole, and the ball landing *exactly* where its told me it will land everytime.

There is just no skill involved when you've got your stats up.

Lets hope EA improve the actual "look" of the crowds before "expanding" them. Also hope this years Tiger gets some decent DLC instead of just the usual 1 or 2 courses. Why not update some of the classic fantasy courses from older Tigers - Predator anyone? No? Just me then...

They need to make it so your character's stats go up and down in multiplayer - not just singleplayer!

These games need a major graphical overhaul imo. Compared to Far Cry 2 its pretty shocking in the landscape department and the weather effects. Actually come to think of it, Ubisoft should allow you to download a bag of golf clubs for FC2.

It doesn't sound as cool without the zero before the number. They should go back to calling it 20XX.

EDIT: Are those commentators the same as last year's? Because the woman is fucking irritating on 09. Her voice grates my soul away.

According to IGN MotionPlus seems to work great in this game.

As I see it MotionPlus is the only thing that can save the Wii at this point, at least it's the only reason why I haven't sold mine yet.

they need to sort out the daily challenges so you can attempt them at different difficulty levels, currently when you have to get 35 under par or something silly like that.

I also think they should shift this franchise towards a mmo with a monthly sub rather than buying the same game every year

Real time weather will make a good marketing blob. But it's gimmicky, and a step backwards in gameplay if you ask me.

Oh well, looking forward to the Wii version anyway. On 360 and PS3 there is just nowhere for them to go with the control scheme so you know it's going to be almost EXACTLY the same as last year.
