Spy Hunter film not dead

Resi director revives.

Work on the Spy Hunter film has restarted, this time with Resident Evil and Alien vs. Predator director Paul Anderson at the helm. "Phew."

It was previously expected to be in cinemas as soon as next month, but production was delayed indefinitely due to unseen snags. John Woo was tied with the film back then, as was wrestling star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In fact, he has already starred as main man Alex Decker in the tie-in game hurriedly released last year to recoup some losses.

It isn't yet known if he'll retain his starring role, or who will be writing the revived project, which has been through several scripts - the most recent being from Collateral and Pirates of the Caribbean writer Stuart Beattie.

Spy Hunter tells the story of an agent working for a secret arm of the government. He has has use of a fancy vehicle that can change from a motorcycle into a jet-ski or submarine, and will have to hunt down and destroy a mysterious organisation called Nostra.

We'll let you know when more turns up.

Can we stop with all the film news being portrayed as game news. It isn't.

Phew! I was just thinking to myself the other day "I wonder when that promising Spy Hunter film-game-tie-in will be released?!".

    Stay away rock, STAY AWAY.

I bet this film turns out to be amazing...
I thought the news that the director of silent Hill has now turned his attention to an Onimusha movie was just ever so slightly more exciting. Not only that but he intends on keeping the Japanese actor who portrays the character in the game and putting him in the flick too.
All I want is a CG Halo film, is that too much for ask for?

    WTF?

Since when was Spy Hunter a viable gaming franchise, let alone a viable movie franchise? Surely there are much better, more recognisable franchises out there!

Paul Anderson is the worst director, making the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune to watch.

I'm guessing the "Phew" was sarcastic!

Paul Anderson is a hack. Him and Michael Bay blow each other as they ride around Holywood on their ego balloons.

Whoever thought "ooh that would make for a good film" needs to be invaded with a granite pineapple.

    >"All I want is a CG Halo film, is that too much for ask for?"

Erm, yes. Do you know how expensive that would be?

Foundry: It's a game movie. If this is hurting your feelings in some way or w/e, don't read the article.

Yeah a CG Halo would be expensive, but after that 40 second commercial last Chrimbo I've got a taste for it God damn, and I think that's how it would work best, I'd rather it like that than live action.

A 'live action' halo movie would be like 60% CG anyway.

Especially if that South African Citroen robot guy is directing it.

I feel Paul Anderson gets a lot of unnecessary flack. The films of his I've seen, Mortal Kombat and the first Resident Evil, were enjoyable Kung Fu / Horror popcorn B-Movies. At least they were true to the spirit of the source material unlike the Mario (shudder) or Streetfighter (snigger) movies. Not all movies have to be classics, just like a lot of gamers get plenty of enjoyment out of the likes of Need For Speed games.
