Spidey Friend or Foe demo

Wriggling on the web.

Activision has flown a new demo for Spider-Man: Friend or Foe into the Xbox Live web.

It's wrapped up in about 432MB of web, and features cartoon violence and friendship themes.

The demo will let you play as arachnid man himself, on your own or in co-operative mode with one of the baddies-turned-good Green Goblin or Venom.

You'll be able to try out a boss dust-up, too, against old Doctor Octopus, and eventually unlock a sidekick cheat code for your efforts - that you can use in the full game.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is being created for PS2, 360 and Wii by Next Level Games - the same brain responsible for the rather good Mario Strikers Charged on Wii.

There's also a PC offering from Beenox, as well as DS and PSP offerings from Artificial Mind & Movement - Activision's dream-team-port-squad.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is due out across all platforms on 12th October. Look for our thoughts nearer the time.

This game sounds like it is going to be utter tosh.

It can't be any worse than Spider-Man 3: The Game... can it?

Total toss. But how great to be able to find out before you buy.

Betcha it sells bucket loads even if it is the worst game of all time, just like recent movie tie-in turkey's:
    * Spiderman 3:The Game of the Movie of the Franchise of the Comic
    * Transformers: The Game of the Movie of the Cartoon of the Toys
    * Harry Potter and the Order of the Cutscenes: The Game of the Movie of the Book.

ps - The screenshots look like Ratchet and Clank went clepto at a fancydress shop!

yeah..., I'm a comix ultra-geek (but I look better, though, at least that what gf says...).
And probably too much free time, and the wage is not bad.

Reminds me of the recent TMNT game that was made in the vein of the old Konami arcade one thats on Live Arcade. In other words, crap.
  • dudefella #12 4 years ago

Felt like a mediocre version of Marvel Ultimate Alliance with far worse graphics. Avoid, unless you love Spider-Man more than is good for you and you can get it for a tenner.

Another win for the 360's backwards compatibility; good to see it can even run new xbox games...
  • M83J01P97 #14 4 years ago

Do remember that this is a game that has always been developed for the younger market...

The only good thing (and it is admittedly a very, very great thing) about the Spider-Man movie games is the web-slinging. The Wii Spidey 3 game had a perfect webslinging control scheme begging for a decent game to be in. What is the point releasing a Spidey game without it?

What a crap demo. Looked and played like a pale imitation of the old saturn side scrolling games, like Die Hard arcade.

What an awful, awful game. I can't believe that this is ten times worst than the recent Spider-Man 3! Crikey, it must have taken a developer of great ineptitude to make a game this bad! :o

I disagree that it's a poor man's Ultimate Alliance, as that's a great disservice to that game. M:UA, whilst graphically average, was a great game with loads of replayability.

This is indeed worse that the Spiderman 3 game. Don't even waste the bandwidth downloading this.

Better than Spider-Man 3 imo. Take the swinging out of that game and you're left with one of the clumsiest combat systems known to man, terrible level design, infuriating boss fights and ridiculous QTE's. I'd rather play this. But rather still I'd play neither of them.

I'm probably in the minority, but the game was actually quite fun.

Quirky humour, and awesome combos, doesnt try to do too much. Definitley not worth full price, but will get it if its around £20
  • suzakuseven #23 4 years ago

I'm with kmittal, it's fun to play. Probably worth a bash at a lower price for some old school 'Streets of Rage-esque' fun. Not every game has to be '300 miles per hour through a stop zone with ninjas and fire and shizzle or whatever' to be enjoyable. Some of you guys are so melodramatic sometimes...

played it with a mates nephew and niece, 4 and 8 respectively.

they were bored shitless come the end, and the littlest one wanted to know why spiderman couldnt explore down below near the streets.

    utter shite.

"they were bored shitless come the end, and the littlest one wanted to know why spiderman couldnt explore down below near the streets. "

My kid said the exact same thing.
Also, it seemed very dark to the point of almost not being able to see what was going on, which seems like a good thing based on the previous feedback.
