Sony E3 Conference Finished

Sony has delivered the last platform holder E3 keynote address and what a response we got.

We saw an impressive motion-sensing controller prototype that claims (and appears to deliver) true 1:1 replication by using in-built sensors and PlayStation Eye input. We heard that PS3 will get an exclusive Rockstar North game called Agent, as well as Final Fantasy XIV Online before any other console. We also saw GT5 in action, plus got an on-stage demonstration of God of War III and Assassin's Creed 2. And, of course, we saw Trico, which is now officially called The Last Guardian.

The PSP Go! was unsurprisingly revealed, alongside the brand new Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker game that may even have four-player co-op. We saw Gran Turismo PSP in action, too.

Read on for our full, blow-by-blow report of Sony's E3 Conference. The earliest entries appear first. No graphs, either.

The PS3 motion controller looked way more precise and useful than what I have seen of the Wiimote even with the "pay more for precision" Motion Plus thingy. And they showed actual gameplay ideas instead of just... more of the same. Colour me interested.

Microsoft's effort is just higher-resolution EyeToy Kinetic - and it even requires a different peripheral than the existing camera, for some strange reason. So Sony already do prtactically what Microsoft are trying to do.

Now, back to waiting for the demonstrated titles to actually appear...
  • neonxaos 5 years ago

Gah, TGS is a long time away. Perhaps I'll have to spring for the current model :(
  • GundamJehutyKai 5 years ago

If anyone says anything derogatory about 1 camp then they are labelled a fanboy. people do love throwing that title around, don't they?

Guess I'm a sony fanboy since I said something bad about Natal and hated the Nintendo borefest!!!

I didn't think anything about the wand either but the tag is probably already on me.

@NeonXaos: probably have to wait till the next big show. (TGS?) they can't have too many hardware reveals in 1 show afterall.

Where is my slimline 45 nm PS3? That's the only thing I was really hoping for :(

It was a very good show which I gave a B-, lots of great stuff but most impressive of all was how they made people, including me, want to get a PSP. Never saw that one coming haha

True, mind you what is a fanboy? I get accused of being a fanboy all the time on here, although on which side depends on which side I'm praising/moaning about at the time!

I'm a SDF XBot, or something...

What they don't realise is I'm actually a DC fanboy!

    / hugs SEGA and Shenmue

Anyway, anyone know if we got more game announcements this week or is that it now, I can't remember.

I would like to hear more about The Agent. The Last Guardian is looking very very nice and I am sure I will enjoy GT5 and God of War 3. I'd Definatly give ModNation Racing a go as well!

  • Calgon 5 years ago

This is pretty funny it feels like all these console have just been launched again with the fanboys from each side desperately trying to convince themselves somebody stole the show(their favourite) and somebody has reason to be concerned(their least favourite).

Nobody had a killer E3 if you were to be honest, I think Natal will be the number1 highlight when we cast a look back when it comes to the next E3 but that isnt to say its a showstopper/dealmaker... from each conference it seems the people who came away most impressed from each are the ones who already own said console. I didnt hear anyone(with integrity... sorry Smelly, Les and fox we all know you like to pretend but I think anybody who still bothers to read your posts knows to take it with a pinch of salt beforehand) say "wow I have to buy a >insert console here< now" off the back of any of the games announcements and demos shown. Maybe there will be a few that were on the fence looking for an excuse that might have but there wont be that many.

All in all it looks like all 3 are still commited to their current platforms which hopefully means a longer generation all around.
  • spudsbuckley 5 years ago

Alan Wake is supposedly on PC as well meaning it's not really exclusive so that kind of takes away from the MS conference.

    Forza 3 though :D
  • niteninja 5 years ago

When you put all the fancy netal wii remote tech aside it comes down to software.
    Uncharted 2,GOW3,Last Guardian,Final Fantasy 14,Gran turismo 5,Rockstars exclusive,Heavy Rain.
M$ must be shitting their pants now.
Hard facts are Sony have more talented first party developers.
Alan Wake looks real good but beyond that Im struggling to find anything.
According to ign Sony have one more big exclusive to reveal tomorrow.
  • spudsbuckley 5 years ago

But didn't Sony show of their waggle thing before and no one gave a shit?
  • rotmm 5 years ago

    @smelly,

You're posting as though you weren't trolling the 360 conf thread with negative comment after negative comment. I seem to recall you even cracking some sarcastic comment about how you were waiting for MS to announce their waggle controller, yet have conveniently overlooked that is exactly what Sony have done.

And then, in the Nintendo thread I seem to recall (if it wasn't you then forgive me, I can't be bothered to do a search) you ripping into MS's conference again. Funnily enough, you have done the same in this thread.

For all of your attacks on Negotiator, you are pretty much him in a cheap suit. You are Mr Hyde to his Dr Jekyll, Jordan to his Peter Andre, George Bush to his Hillary Clinton.
  • TheBrow 5 years ago

Its very pleasing to see so many MS fans who feel that MS had the better E3, and Sony fans who feel that Sony did.

Looks like everyone chose the right console! :D

  • smelly 5 years ago

I just did a search on "Negotiator" in the nintendo conference thread.. he was just as bad in there

    I quote:

"A sad day for Wii owners and Nintendo fans full stop, when they were showing Wii motion plus it was like Natal was on everyone's lips. A joke of a conference, lets hope Sony do alot better seeing as I just bought a used PS3, but its looking like Microsoft have won by a landslide."

    What a sad loser.

(no not me for looking for his name.. him for posting it *smile*)

"also still need to get Deadspace.."

    / shakes head in disappointment
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

@AphoticCosmos, lol yes tell me about it :D

I might leave a few of the titles longer this year, and hopefully the cost will drop. I still need to get Godfather 2 (got it free to play for a couple of days and the graphics are not great, but i enjoyed it), also still need to get Deadspace.. so the longer the year goes on the worse it gets, miss some and then have to pick them up, and before i do more games have already come out.

the quality of 360 trolls is really dropping

@EvilBob_leeds, its only Negotiator at the moment, and the two that normally troll every post (I dont need to say their names, its like Candyman if i say their names they might appear), and thankfully the two main trolls have been pretty quiet recently.
  • chris_ace 5 years ago

and yet the wait goes on for alan wake, and as for NATLOL well by the time thats out 36o will be a dead console

I think what people fail to remember is that were now in June, and I would say 4 good exclusives a year is probably enough, why because from now until Xmas there are tons of games coming out, AC, Bioshock, MW, OFP, Dirt2, Overlord, just to name a few, I cannot afford too many more (in time not money :D.. so those people shouting that there are not enough exclusives are just crazy :D.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

    Nobody "wins" you tool.

It remains to be seen how good any of these games will actually be. Exclusives don't make a platform unless it's recently released and needs the sales. I have a feeling that the 360 announcements overall may be more of a platform-mover - Natal just seems more intuitive than the wand to me [read: I am not discounting the Wand from being a quality bit of kit, it is, but Natal just looked better IMHO assuming it works as Ellie suggests] and the social/music features are big. Maybe not to us hardcore gamers, but casual joe will like facebook, twitter, last.fm etc.

At any rate, it's not all about the games these days, as Wii clearly demonstrates.

  • mkreku 5 years ago

Well, if I had to choose one, I have to say the Sony conference was the most fun. But that may have been because Ellie went mental at the end. I was laughing out a lung :D

  • onyxbox 5 years ago

Negotiator is gonna explode at this rate :-)

Seriously tho' he has a point... there aren't many exclusives within 2009 announced. However I personally think that despite this; Sony had a show as good as MS because of the number of exclusives and the AAAness of those titles can't be disputed.

MS + for Crackdown 2, Forza and 3d camer thing.

Sony + for PSPgo.. MGS... MAG and Uncharted 2.

I'd say they were about even and both slightly disappointing for 2009 games.

End of the day there's plenty for everyone... especially those who have all the systems... Personally I'm looking forward to everything but Forza (but that's just because I'm useless at those games).

  • Beek4257 5 years ago

    @bad09

    Agreed. Good times ahead.
  • bad09 5 years ago

You know what let's not argue, my wanted list got a shitload heavier, MS had a good one, Sony had a good one and hell even Ninty showed SOMETHING I liked (bloody Mrs selling the Wii!)! Loads of lovely games have been announced....and MONKEY ISLAND IS BACK!

I think I just fell back in love with the games industry....

  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Well we shall see, I own both the 360 and PS3 so it don't matter to me, but it is clear to me and anyone else with any common sense that MS had the best show, goodnight ladies.
  • spudsbuckley 5 years ago

But it wasn't just about the PS3 though. The PSP stuff is very impressive too.
  • smelly 5 years ago

I dont even OWN a ps3.. and even i can see they had the best show.

    Negotiator is the new farticus.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

Negotiator, not a very apt name. Swearing at people because they thought someone else had a better show, is pretty childish.

All three did something to appease different markets and groups. I personally didnt like any of the PSP stuff, just not interested, but i fully understand why they did it, same with Nintendo focussing on certain things and MS the same. Take your rose tinted glasses off and calm down.

  • shogo10 5 years ago

Yeah MAG forget about that one :p, still their first party lineup is a bit thin for the rest of the year, was hoping GOW3 would be this year. Regardless I'm looking forward to most the game they should be releasing next year, and I'd definitely say theres more than enough incentive to get a ps3 now.
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

"Regardless, Sony had more solid gaming news on show."

Britishblue you are one giant nob head, enlighten us with the solid gaming news, please. You see I hate fanboys, people who won't see reality because of brand loyalty, who create excitement in a product when there is very little, Sony had almost no games on show that were coming out this year, fact.

  • chris_ace 5 years ago

Microsofts conference was Mega LOLZ really. the only thing that had on show was Alan wake which looks good, probably get it on PC. everything else was a target render including NATAL

  • milky_09 5 years ago

to be totally honest no real suprises from either sony or microsoft...or nintendo for that matter.

nice to finally have a more solid release date for gt mobile.... again ill hold my breathe. seems odd ps3 gt5 next year and psp this year... perhaps ps3 version will be released just in time for xmas 09.
  • smelly 5 years ago

it wasnt just that sony had better games on show.. it had better VARIETY of games..

microsoft's was just shooter, shooter, shooter, racer, shooter, shooter, etc.

  • Rash' 5 years ago

AphoticCosmos, I would recommend you get it, mate. I've been on Infamous most of the weekend and it is an excellent game. Along with Uncharted 2 I have to say Sony's first party games are coming to fruition.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

    @Rash

Even as someone who really doesn't care for the PS3 at all [it's not bad, but I love my PC and 360 too much to invest in a new console], the combo of Uncharted 2 and MAG in a double-whammy was almost enough for me to consider getting a PS3 :p
  • chessboxer 5 years ago

    @shogo10

I'm pretty sure Zipper said MAG would be out in 2009, just before they walked off stage, but hey. God Of War has always been launched in the month of March, so I wouldn't have expected GOW3 to be any different. I am surprised that Insomniac weren't there though.
  • Rash' 5 years ago

Agreed Sony had a more solid line up of games, but while they concentrate on their first party content MS continue to pull ahead in the online department.
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

  • Negotiator 5 years ago

While sony did show a lot of games, most of them aren't releasing till at least next year, GOW3, Last Guardian, GT5 etc.. The only game they showed thats coming out this year on ps3 is Uncharted 2, which frankly everyone already knows about. Thats the biggest difference for me between sony's and Ms's conference, MS showed games that are for the most part releasing this year, Splinter Cell, and Halo ODST, Forza 3, L4D2.

    Someone talking sense, at last.
  • Beek4257 5 years ago

    @Makeamazing

I agree, but then im not going crazy saying it is either :)

    On the other hand, they were glow-in-the-dark dildo-controllers. Motion-sensing glow-in-the-dark dildo-controllers ...

"Xbox 360 owner: "I loved FFXIII, can't wait to play XIV"

PS3 owner: "Good luck with that."

Xbox 360 owner quickly becomes PS3 owner.

That's the way to get them hooked, kids."

    Is it?

    Is it really?

I can only imagine that the FFXI players from the 360 will be interested in getting a PS3 for FFXIV, and amazingly that doesn't meant they have to sell their 360 to do so . . . MMOs on consoles typically don't do fantastically well anyway.
  • shogo10 5 years ago

A wager, all major multipaltform game sites say Microsoft had the best press conference, then all the Sony fanboys who are blinded by thier love for Sony can STFU, and stop posting. If I am wrong you will never see or read me again.
  • spudsbuckley 5 years ago

I really don't see why NATAL and Milo are getting everyone so excited. The games are going to be like the shovelware that is making up 95% of the Wii's current library. Core/hardcore types such as myself (not saying that to sound cool because it's really sad a fuck) couldn't give a fuck about this gimmicky crap.

I'm looking forward to Forza 3 and Splinter Cell on the 360 and FF13, GT 5 and the heap of PSP stuff coming out. Sony had the best conference, MS had an ok one and the Ninty one was just terrible. Hopefully some cool third party stuff will come out of E3 because at the moment i'm going to be using my PC for gaming most of next year by the looks of it.

I think it's safe to say that the sony motion controller won't look like a dualshock throbbing dildo when it launches...but then again would be a talking point at parties...

was gonna buy a wii...might just wait for this now :)
  • wellzy4eva 5 years ago

The interactive dildo was the highlight I thought
  • onyxbox 5 years ago

As with MS... disappointing line up for this year for exclusives.

    What was it:

    o Mag

    o Ratchet

    o Uncharted

    o TRack building game?

All the other (cool) stuff was 2010 :-( never mind... PSPgo looks good tho' I'll be picking one of them up for sure.

Sony had bigger games than MS... MGS... FFX 14... GT5... God of War 3, Trico, MAG, Uncharted etc... but mostly 2010 and I found the MS conference a much more entertaining.

Sony's delivery was a bit dull and dry... and a lot of the thunder was dampened by all the leaks.... had most of the big announcements stayed secret it would have been a top showing by Sony... ah well B+ for Sony and MS and a C - for Ninty.

  • gingamonkey 5 years ago

    Totally unbiased as I own a 360 and wii - No PS3....

Personally, I think Sony stole the show!

MS's motion controller thing looks too good to be true - I work with motion capture and it's difficult to capture that shit with thousands of pounds worth of kit! They are expecting me to believe they can do it on a 360 which costs a couple of hundred quid?! Give me a break!

As for Nintendo, what the hell was that finger thing?! Isn't that what they put on you in hospital when you have heart problems?! Geezus! Just give us Pillotwings and F-Zero and the world will be a better place!

Anyway, Sony - great lineup of games, motion controller looks interesting - Could be trading in the wii and owning a shiny new slim PS3 and PSP GO by this time next year!

Hats off to Sony imho! A saddened 360 and wii owner. :(

Negotiator you are getting more rabid by the minute.

Hardware, full body motion control with face and voice recognition, against Wii mote rip off and a presentation that looked like they put it together last night. Stars, MS had Spielberg, half of the Beatles, Tony Hawk and Cliffy B, Sony had, thats right no one. Games out this year, exclusives Halo ODST, Forza 3, L4D 2, Splinter Cell conviction, Sony had Uncharted 2, MAG AND THATS IT, who won again.

@Mentalist(air) yes Milo was shown behind closed doors, and if you had read Ellies report, she suggested that there was a person on a PC "doing something".. (e.g controlling the boy)... yes its impressive that it can pick out a color, but its not "That amazing".. i mean its not the end of gaming or anything.

The live videos were not bad to be honest, all of the add videos were fake.
  • peteb 5 years ago

They've announced more original IPs than MS and Nintendo, dont forget most of the new stuff Sony announced will be 2010-2011. Maybe MS and Nintendo are saving something new for next year?

  • rotmm 5 years ago

No date for GT5, no date for Trico (sorry, can't call it it's proper name just yet), FF14 Online 2010, GoW 2010, Agent from Rockstar, no date, Modnation, 2010.

No, they showed 3 live demonstrations, look around for the video.

Ricochet - which ellie played and seemed impressed by.

Avatar live motion capture - done by the announcer guy, Kudo whatever

Painting demo thing - some guy Rolf Harris style draws an elephant by slopping paint about.

And Milo was shown behind closed doors, freaking a succession of journalists out by complimenting them on the colour of their clothes.

Pretty good conference overall, The Last Guardian did it for me though, far more excited for that than any other game in the showing. PSP stuff was boring, and FFXIV reveal was meh as far as I'm concerned, maybe if it wasn't online I'd be more interested. GT5s never coming out so its hard to be excited about that. GOW3 was impressive though, but again 2010 release, good gameplay demo though. Overall nothing mind-blowing, and no surprise ending like I was hoping (really wanted ZOE3), also it was kinda pointless bringing Kojima to the conference only to show off a psp game :p

Nintendo's conference was just boring, and almost as bad as Ubi's fail conference, not more to say on that.

MS's conference had the best presentation, and proved that first impressions really do count. I wonder how many people would have had the same reaction to their showing if they weren't the first to show. Despite that they had a decent amount of games to show, certainly enough to keep the fanboys happy, Halo games, MW2.. etc. By far and away Alan Wake and Splinter Cell were the highlights of their show.

Interesting E3, but almost all the 'big 3' played it safe, no new out of this world announcements like I was hoping, but a far better E3 showing than last year's. Can't say I wasn't entertained at least.

Xbox 360 owner: "I loved FFXIII, can't wait to play XIV"

PS3 owner: "Good luck with that."

Xbox 360 owner quickly becomes PS3 owner.

That's the way to get them hooked, kids. Meanwhile, Sony and Squenix sit there chuckling.....
  • MENTAL1ST 5 years ago

Nitendo : Fuck you all we have won.

MS: We are doing pretty good... now lets try to grab the casuals and the social network people.

Sony: Hey... we have games now!

Actually, that's remarkably succinct. Bravo, sir!
  • dredd97 5 years ago

Ok, a more human press conference than microsofts, love jacks inability to speak to a crowd, boy he does get nervous..

And the motion control stuff was pretty cool actually...all ms showed of (the impressive) natal was a concept video, when's it out? 2010? 2011? with the xbox720? those sony tech demos showed real possibilities...loved the homage to zelda tech demo (that was no accident) showing just how good it can be with proper bow mechanics and swords and shields (take that motionplus!!) sure natal *could* be awesome, but the guys right, there's something just right about shooting a with a trigger...

You really shouldn't diss the motion control stuff...saved nintendo from going down the toilet..look at them now? they don't even try at e3 anymore because the wii is printing cash for them, can't blame MS or sony for wanting a piece of that pie...

So if sony are to be believed and the motion controller does indeed launch spring 2010, Nintendo and MS will have something to worry about...
  • wellzy4eva 5 years ago

Nintendo need to employ a consumer liason who can actually communicate with some Charisma instead of just using Reggie.

Sony got screwed over the worst when it came to leaks, but as Jack was a good announcer, he just laughed it off and didn't sound like he was reading a badly done script which was probably shown only to yes men.

Nintendo just need a brilliant PR team to do E3 and I think they'd have done much better.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

The slim is for later in the Year (august), dont know when the GDC is... I suspect that they will hold something back for later in the year.
  • septimus 5 years ago

Smelly: "Im actually tempted to buy a ps3 now.. if only they were cheaper... "

Really? Fucking hell, I didn't think their conference was _that_ good ;)

Seriously though both are worth owning, maybe the Slim will be mentioned later? TGC maybe.
  • MeBrains 5 years ago

    Nintendo: Neh

    MS: Meh

    Sony: Yeh

'nuff said. on to wii's hbc now.
  • Avaloner 5 years ago

I believe Sony outdid themselves with the best showing this year at E3. Microsoft came in a close second and Nintendo a distant third.
  • GamerG 5 years ago

hmmm nothing that really changed the game, no new features for XMB and the motion control looks outdated after MS's conference and still a long ways off,

Still there was plenty to keep current owners happy (albeit in 2010) so a good conference overall and much better than previous years imo

They badly needed a dated GT5 and a price cut but got neithe, therefore MS 9/10 Sony 8/10, Nintendo 6/10 (only because of SMG2 otherwise 4!)
  • layleeloo 5 years ago

    >But what impressed me most is that Sony do not seem to be going for a land grab of the casual market

That is because they don't even have the hardcore market.

    It was pretty clear:

Nitendo : Fuck you all we have won.

MS: We are doing pretty good... now lets try to grab the casuals and the social network people.

Sony: Hey... we have games now!
  • Triggerhappytel 5 years ago

Where the fuck are the new games, Sony?! How about some Syphon Filter PS3? New Wipeout? Anything unannounced which is a Sony IP?!!
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

Ultimately, both the Microsoft and Sony conferences offered a lot to talk about, Natal will probably remain an important talking point for the 360 until next year, when hopefully we can see what it can do when games are specifically made for it, but the Sony conference did have a lot more games rather than tat. even if only the multiplats interest me as a PC and 360 gamer. Both the publisher conferences were very, very cool too [EA and Ubi]

I really do think Nintendo dropped the ball though.
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

Sony wasn't too impressive, but more so than MS as they showed a good few games and the tech demo wasn't the main part of their show.

  • greenthumb 5 years ago

i honestly dont see the fuss with natal. its just a camera. everyone laughs at the wii waggling, natal will be similar but without holding a controller so it makes it amazing?? we have all played camera based games before and they are fucking woeful. if they can get it to work as accurately as they claim it really will be something to look out for though.

  • Jdoki 5 years ago

I was seriously hoping that Ninty showed some interesting titles... But no, my Wii gathers more dust (although Metroid may be cool).

MS had a fairly mediocre showing. Not enough games, too much focus on how they will infiltrate the living room. The Natal stuff was cool but uninspiring, and the BS Peter Molyneaux was spouting was a joke. Once again MS proved the best they can do it leech desirable games from Sony and make them multi-platform - Great if you only own a 360, but rubbish if you own a PS3 as well.

Sony just nailed it for me. Even though most of stuff was already known, they still had a few surprises, like Final Fantasy XIV! But what impressed me most is that Sony do not seem to be going for a land grab of the casual market, and there was no desperation in their conference (unlike MS). It was solid 'Business as Usual' and the PS3 continues to pick up steam.

And Jack Tretton wins E3 for being the most personable front man!
  • prettyboytim 5 years ago

To be honest Sony really suffered from leaks this time around - imagine how much more impressive it would have been if we hadn't already seen the new PSP or the Last Guardian video.
  • smelly 5 years ago

    >How can MS just win it? they showed 10 games ...

and all of them looked so similar that in my mind they became one single game!

Sony had the bigger diversity of games.. hands down.

Im actually tempted to buy a ps3 now.. if only they were cheaper...

  • bad09 5 years ago

Well OK. Some good stuff to look forward to, it's like 2008 all over again! For me..

    Uncharted 2

    MAG

    GTpsp

    Maybe that MGS

GT5 - now with WRC \o/ Real rally again!

    The Last Guardian looks mental

Must find out about that RE for PSP also!

Both MS and Sony did OK this year made my anger at the console makers melt a little (only a little), can't speak for N as I didn't see it so need to read or watch.

But seriously Sony & MS. THERE IS A REASON I OFFED THE WII. Keep it to the casuals OK ;)
  • lavalant 5 years ago

fjhaprs sony showed more GT5 FMV, like they have been showing for the past 4 years at E3. As for Trico, yeh i will buy a PS3 for that, but how many years till it's out?

At least Ms showed games coming out in a few months.
  • Scimarad 5 years ago

Well that was a lot better than the embarassing spectacle I was expecting. Lots of interesting things though I have to say that the FFXIII trailer got me excited the most. The Xbox motion sensor thing was much, much slicker but this one actually looked like it was quite a laugh. I'm very intrigued by the customisable racing game - I hope it has lost of 'components'.

The Last Guardian definitely stole the show, though.
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Last Guardian looked very nice, but whens it out? GOW3 looked OK but is out 2010, Gran 5 when is that out?. Microsoft had by far the best conference, features for online by a mile, better motion control by a mile, better games out this year, MS won easy.
  • MightyMouse 5 years ago

Easily the best of the 3 imo but what does it matter, kids? Enough games that everyone should be happy.
  • chris_ace 5 years ago

sony win this one, announcement after announcement.

also showed Nintendo how you make a modern day mario kart!
  • MyPointIs 5 years ago

That was surprisingly good, taking all things into account. What I liked the best, is the fact that everyone presenting sounded quite humble. For SONY, that is quite a feat!!!
  • Domovoi 5 years ago

Not a bad conference. Much better than Nintendo's. The motion thing was interesting, but it basically looked like a more accurate Wiimote, while Natal was more ambitious than that. Still, interesting stuff from two of the big players.
  • Dizzy 5 years ago

    >no one has a room big enough or light enough to handle it

It was pointed out a long time ago that the camera uses infrared. Should not be affected by light.

Anyway... Sony had some solid games but their "waggle" thing now looks very old tired. Still... some killer games using it will prove the quality and if the accuracy is there it will certainly be MUCH better that the Wii stuff. Also devs will now be able to port Wii games to PS3. That is good for Sony.
  • IronGiant 5 years ago

Hmmmm... not bad, probably the best of the 3 presentations all in all.
  • fjharps 5 years ago

ive seen someone rate the ps3 show a 7/10 and the 360 10/10 all i've seen is the ps3 show games, games and games which is the whole thing in this business what did the 360 show to deserve a 10?
  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

Microsofts was the most impressive with great games and incredible tech. Nintendos was a big letdown, sonys was good, psp fans should be very happy.
  • GreyBeard 5 years ago

    Damn. That was exhausting...

I'm not buying into the console war shenanigans, but, well done Sony for such a strong showing.

Last Guardian looks absolutely gorgeous, game of the show so far for me.

  • peteb 5 years ago

Good job Sony, I'd say for me its a tie with MS.

Motion can fuck right off too. Whatever happened to companies trying out new stuff, both MS and Sony just look like "oh, me too" with this motion business, but MS hides its copy of Wii stuff a bit better.

Someone do Virtual Reality or 3D vision next year or something

  • byron_hinson 5 years ago

Agree about e3 overall - Natal was the big talking point but with it not likely to be out next year and a big lack of any real game content on the MS conference I felt that Sony came out top - simply because of the games on show.
  • Widge 5 years ago

Well I thought ALL three conferences had something for someone in there. So not a bad year for all really.
  • persus-9 5 years ago

More lies I suspect. I can't see anything about that God of War III demo that couldn't have be done just as well on a PC. I don't mind him bigging up his console, that's his job after all, but why can't he stick to the truth?
  • DanC89 5 years ago

I'm vaguely impressed. The best kind of impressed.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

I thought it was ok from Sony, they had a few more games that they could have/should have shown and that would have owned it in my opinion
  • MENTAL1ST 5 years ago

I'd say Sony have had the most exciting press conference. I'm seriously considering buying a PSP now, there's an achievement.

But I'd still have to say that Microsoft's Natal is the most interesting thing unveiled.

Sony's motion controllers may be more practical (although if they are, why haven't they got a demo game using them?), but that whole IR whole-body-sensing automatic motion tracking business is just so intriguing.

IMHO MS wins this year, Sony an extremely close second, Nintendo was just unbelievably shite.

Including the publisher conferences I'd have to say that EA's was on a par with Sony's and Ubi's was slightly worse.

    - MS: 9/10 [More games kplox]

    - Sony: 8.5/10 [Lots of games, but I think that the hardware was lacking in the extreme]

    - EA: 8.5/10 [Quite a bit of fun in there [Madden Trailer, awkward switch from 18-rated dragon age to kids games was hilarious, peter moore best presenter ever, Jedi and Sith at the end] and the Bioware trailers were typically awesome]

    - Ubisoft: 7.5/10 [Lots of nice games, and Pele]

    - Nintendo: 3/10 [Consolation Prize - Metroid and Mario? Is that all? Really? No shit]
  • king2001 5 years ago

  • sneetch 5 years ago

    @septimus

The controllers will work better than Natal... unless your living room is a uniform light white box.

What's the bets that Natal will launch with a similar wand thing? Or a gun of some sort? All you need is a wireless controller with some buttons and it can be a magical gun/sword/bat/dildo too. MS could (if it works properly) get into the plastic peripheral thing like Nintendo.

holy crap i dont thin anyone saw THAT FF14 for Ps3 only!

Do you think so? He said PS3 "will be the only console you can play it on when it launches in 2010" It might be the same as FFXIII.
  • Capa26 5 years ago

So this is basically a wiimote with a glowing tumor...
  • lavalant 5 years ago

How is this different to the Wii?
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

Even though the presentation is poor, I actually think this is better than MS, because i think you have the feeling of the controller.. though to be honest it is very Wii Remoteish.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

Well the painting's better than Natal.

    That's about it.

But I can see the appeal . . . kinda.
  • Bagpuss 5 years ago

Nintendo and MS must be pissing themsleves laughing......
  • Scimarad 5 years ago

  • El-Dev 5 years ago

    This is dung...

  • TheStatics 5 years ago

This motion shite is rather underwhelming.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

LOL, were not going to show you a video, its all live...ooops :D
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    Haha.
  • lavalant 5 years ago

  • Capa26 5 years ago

    What the fuck is that?
  • Beek4257 5 years ago

    @designerheadache

that looks like the controller my wife uses
  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

Oh dear they put this together overnight.
  • Widge 5 years ago

nah, Versus13 is meant to be (from what I understand) more of a traditional RPG in the vein of the PS1 ones. World map, dungeons, party, summons... that kind of future/current times hybrid of FF7.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    Versus wasn't online?

    Motion control v
  • peteb 5 years ago

wasnt the dreamcast fishing rod the first motion controller? or the maraccas in samba di amgio?
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

Uh-oh: FFXIV moneyspinner on the horizon.

    Eyetoylol.
  • MouzerMalti 5 years ago

FFXVII will be out in 2011 for the Wiii w00t
  • Beek4257 5 years ago

2010 in Japan? The world (including Europe)?

  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

    FF14whatnow?

Wait til FF13 is out m'kay?

    FF 14, WTF?
  • MossyMos 5 years ago

    Say.... who....what...2010?

  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

  • Cocytan 5 years ago

    FFXIV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • peteb 5 years ago

2 final fantasy games in one year? wont that cause some kind of rip in the space time continuum?
  • Widge 5 years ago

    GOOD FUCKING GOD
  • rob230 5 years ago

Seems they've gone all out PSP

also seems Ellie has gone all out mental lol
  • Capa26 5 years ago

All this talk of LaCie in the FF trailer has got me thinking, my external hard drive is made by LaCie... is it evil?... should I destroy it?
  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

"LIES! Grand Theft Auto started on the PC in 1997, not the Playstation. They didn't port it to the PlayStation until 1998. "

    All details.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    Dreadful voice acting, again.
  • Widge 5 years ago

because the PSP is unimportant in THE BIG WAR
  • lavalant 5 years ago

FF13 now? more multiplatform games on show. Where#s the exclusive stuff, Ico2, GOW, GT5. This conference was all about PSP GO so far.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

Assassin's Creed 2 looked good, but it's multiplat at any rate.
  • Beek4257 5 years ago

    @Apothic

Well he did say "a great place", not "the great place". Err ... greatest.

  • rotmm 5 years ago

Must admit I loved AssCreed and really looking forward to this. Looks absolutely stunning.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

    Too much blur on AC
  • DjFlex52 5 years ago

    no trailer for Agent :(
  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

    That was impressive.
  • Les 5 years ago

A firm release date for GT PSP. That must be the biggest surprise this E3...
  • peteb 5 years ago

    Fucking haystacks, fuck off
  • mikeck 5 years ago

Damn good doublt takedown in AC2 just then...brutal!
  • DjFlex52 5 years ago

nothing playable on Sony stage...so far :(

    seems only MS does that
  • Capa26 5 years ago

Big props to Ellie... she's making this the best conference so far with her comments.
  • TheBoyChris 5 years ago

    Marry me Ellie!
  • persus-9 5 years ago

LIES! Grand Theft Auto started on the PC in 1997, not the Playstation. They didn't port it to the PlayStation until 1998.
  • Redeye 5 years ago

Gran Turislol. Later than a very late thing who's turned up late for a late lunch. And yeah, I'll probably still buy it. :p

EDIT: Late, as in just like my comment. Gah.
  • king2001 5 years ago

Fuck, they're whoring out da Vinci now
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

$50m for GTA DLC, R* CHOSE well...
  • autogunner 5 years ago

LOL Ellie's comments are getting better and better
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

"cleary, Rockstar recognises playstation as a great place to build an audience"

Which is, of course, why Rockstar chose the 360 for GTA IV DLC . . .

    Just saying.
  • rotmm 5 years ago

Surely Sony getting out their chequebook would have at least warranted a little FMV preview?
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

Jade's gotten ugly with that beard
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

    Ugh, Ass Creed time filler
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

Was that it from R*, woulda liked a bit of footage.

    AC2, fuckin hell.
  • king2001 5 years ago

    Not showing Agent though?
  • rotmm 5 years ago

    Hang on.... that was it?
  • mikeck 5 years ago

    Exclusive Rockstar game woohoo :p

Shame we got no footage or real information though...
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Exclusive game, come on. Agent from Rockstar.

  • El-Dev 5 years ago

    R*, shit just got real.
  • rotmm 5 years ago

    Ohhh, that's big.
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

Lost Planet 2 synonomous with PS3? Wasn't the original 360 exclusive?
  • Beek4257 5 years ago

    @Widge/camera thingy

    What, again?!

Is one of those industry in-jokes I'm not getting?
  • Widge 5 years ago

    ooh, rockstar
  • Turambar 5 years ago

Did i just see some Bioshock 2 footage?
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

I can understand why they are doing this, lots of games, rather than the MS approach of we have just 10 games... type situation.. but now they need to follow it up with some quick exclusive videos/game play of games.
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

I wish they would title the games in the highlights
  • Widge 5 years ago

oh god, a camera THING which recognises what the user is doing. THAT IS TOTALLY NEW.
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

    Give us something brilliant, anything.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

I'm sure that was the Getaway snuck in there!
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Another fucking video with crap music.
  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

Why such a small screen. :(
  • rotmm 5 years ago

    @Cannibal,

I'm sure this is just a highlight reel to show the breadth of games, before they bring out the big guns.
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

    Just highlights for PS3?
  • king2001 5 years ago

    fuck off home
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

My home is great, PS3 home is shit.
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

"And home is full of cheeky little shits."

Coming to EG you won't avoid many cheeky little shits.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

Hope he doesnt spend long on Home... come on more PS3 stuff please!!! ah man this is ok, but still not that good.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

    Oh dear PSN.
  • owl 5 years ago

    home stuff : P
  • peteb 5 years ago

i think they've blown any chance of the PSP Go being a success with that dumb price point

    when will they learn?!
  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

And home is full of cheeky little shits.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    FF7 this week for whom?
  • TheStatics 5 years ago

This guy must be kidding about Home!
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

    I DON'T CARE ABOUT HOME!
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Sony have paid people to cheer, they cheer anything, I kid you not.
  • bad09 5 years ago

    Christ Home zzzzzzzz.
  • greenthumb 5 years ago

is psp region free? a US PSPgo seems the obvious choice
  • owl 5 years ago

hope that horse game was agro gaiden
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

I guess no one can accuse them of having no software on the PSP now... looks like they are supporting it big time.

Now give me more PS3 stuff please!!!!
  • Widge 5 years ago

Yeah, that PSP line up looked pretty good!
  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

    psnstatisticslol.
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

You know something's wrong when Hannah Montana gets the ironic biggest cheer of the night.
  • rotmm 5 years ago

  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

    Finally, it's over.
  • jiveguy 5 years ago

    @BBIAJ

No. The man said all the games and servicess for PSP would work on the Go-Bot thing and the currrent one.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    @BBIAJ

It'll be out on UMD too unless they're retarded. (!)
  • king2001 5 years ago

    whatchootakinaboutbbiaj?

  • mkreku 5 years ago

    Snowmobiles in Motorstorm?!? SOLD!!
  • BBIAJ 5 years ago

So if you want to play GT Mobile, you now have to buy a whole new PSP to do so?

    Twats...
  • autogunner 5 years ago

    more ps3 plz...
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Lets see some PS3 stuff, they need something big.
  • Domovoi 5 years ago

    Either co-op or homoeroticism.
  • bad09 5 years ago

OK Pizza turned up did he just say RE for PSP?
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

Big PSP push game wise. Weird.
  • Widge 5 years ago

omg where is da psflee stuff as dat is dee only consoels
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

    Wow, that sucked.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

I hope they get back to PS3 soon, Im bored
  • rotmm 5 years ago

Cool. A little buttfucking hidden in boxes.
  • MouzerMalti 5 years ago

ok, did the last part of the MGS video hint any co-op or am I just imaging things?
  • Widge 5 years ago

I love full on MGS trailers...
  • bad09 5 years ago

Looks good but I really haven't got on that well with portable ops.
  • Domovoi 5 years ago

What is it with the awful taglines at the end of trailers this E3? That Murder Club For Women or whatever it was had a terrible one, and now "THEY BELIEVED THEY CREATED A PARADISE"?
  • patchbox360 5 years ago

never thought i would say this but i can't stand mgs anymore, its boring - i seem to remember hideo not wanting to do another mgs after mgs2
  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

    Boxlol.
  • Widge 5 years ago

    Solid Snake vs Jehuty
  • mikeck 5 years ago

    fiat punto, i choose you!!

    Most amusing, most amusing :)
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

Wait MGS for PSP looks very good, but I don't own one.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

It'll feature Solid Snake? If it's in the 70's he'll be still in nappies!
  • Domovoi 5 years ago

NARRATED BY A SEVEN FOOT TALL MAN WHO HAS BEEN SMOKING CIGARETTES SINCE CHILDHOOD.
  • Negotiator 5 years ago

this is looking like a washout, Uncharted 2 looked and thats it, better be something good coming.
  • bad09 5 years ago

Ah man I thought the pizza man was here and missed GT video :(

Still I'll have that (even though GT5p was a tad poo). Oohh, MGS on PSP please be good - unlike the previous efforts!
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

This guy keeps popping up everywhere.. he must be making lots of money!
  • Domovoi 5 years ago

Translating on the fly may not be easy, but there's no need to do it on the fly. Everything he's saying was scripted anyway, so why not script the translation as well?
  • Widge 5 years ago

    Splinter Cell looked alright
  • MouzerMalti 5 years ago

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker... what? Is he going to be a diplomat in the UN now?
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

    LOL,

    Diary - PSP Talk

    Tomorrow - Job Center
  • Halo.Jones 5 years ago

Translator face off... That's what we want...
  • smelly 5 years ago

"Just because Msoft's news was mostly a surprise, doesn't necessarily make it better, just more...surprising. :) "

I agree.. BOTH microsoft and nintendos conferences were a bit dull for me. Apart from alan wake, final fantasy, mario and metroid - nothing of interest to me in either of them

  • Dante_Cubit 5 years ago

Red controller for 50 quid coming up....
  • HermitArcader 5 years ago

Translating on the fly isn't easy so it was fine, they just need to keep them brief like the other talks, but I'm just glad GT is out real soon, but no mention of online mode...
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

    A proper translator!
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    METAL GEAR! AGAIN!

    Another translator :p
  • sugarbaron 5 years ago

    The translator wins e3.
  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

    Hideolol.
  • king2001 5 years ago

Apparently there is a new MGS game for the PSP
  • Beek4257 5 years ago

    249 USD = 249 EUR?

My God! What kind of alternate exchange rate-reality do these people live in?

Seriously, it's insulting to our economy :-(
  • sneetch 5 years ago

    @MORZTAN

The guy with the shopping list is too funny :D:D:D:D

    I think he's updating his diary. ;)

"Dear Diary, this is it! My big chance!"
  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

Sony bastards ripping off europe again. Yeah I give in, I want a psp go now.

    Great game....worst presentation....ever
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    :0
  • peteb 5 years ago

    so many squares...

    looks nice, i think!
  • patchbox360 5 years ago

    a festival of snore
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

But not properly, easy way to do it would just to be have him reading from a script rather than in real time translation. It's what MS did.

Also I have a mate who speaks fluent Japanese talking with me and watching this, the translator did bullshit over a few mistakes a few times.
  • king2001 5 years ago

Also the translator appears to be wearing a jacket made entirely from car tyres
  • owl 5 years ago

    fiat punto, i choose you!!
  • DanC89 5 years ago

Bet it still isn't out till the next Olympics :(
  • MossyMos 5 years ago

"The PSP is so tiny and so powerful to run GT Mobile at 60 fps.... in fact I wish it could translate as well, instead of this dick with pen and paper besides me."
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

    Aphotic, he is clearly translating.
  • MORZTAN 5 years ago

The guy with the shopping list is too funny :D:D:D:D
  • Halo.Jones 5 years ago

Ok, so you're pushing GT PSP, get the fuck off the stage and lets get on with the show.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

Translator is epic fail. He can't translate.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

The PSP Go is more powerful than the DS, but the DS is cheaper, and price is a problem when buying a gaming device for kids.
  • Dante_Cubit 5 years ago

249 quid would be okay if PSP GO has full Demonoid support.

  • MouzerMalti 5 years ago

As much as I love SONY, even though I only game on PC... fail translator...

  • rotmm 5 years ago

How many times can you "announce" the same game? I'm sure that GT PSP was announced a couple of years back.
  • Xerx3s 5 years ago

Wtf is that translator doing? Solving a crossword puzzle because he is so awesome?
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

I agree the price needs to be in line with the DS to compete for that market
  • Widge 5 years ago

I CAN'T SEE THE SCREEN FROM HERE YOU MORON
  • Bagpuss 5 years ago

Lol...pen and paper.....wheres the universal translator...??

  • king2001 5 years ago

  • HermitArcader 5 years ago

@Turambar agreed, but if Nintendo do I suppose Sony want greater price control as well, trouble is they don't have market control to dictate consumer demand, so yeah price is too high, should be $200 at most.
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

Quite expensive, not interested. Get back to the PS3.
  • peteb 5 years ago

    $249.99

    249.99 euros?

    Nah
  • Turambar 5 years ago

$250 is not the right price.

PSP Go! Looks much nicer when you see it in someones hand tbh. Still not getting one mind.
  • Domovoi 5 years ago

    RIIIIIDGE RACEEEEEER!
  • mkreku 5 years ago

Hmm, so far I've seen Uncharted 2 and MAG and they've both looked good?

Is the world coming to an end..? I think I saw one of the horsemen outside my apartment :(

    Game over MS!
  • bad09 5 years ago

He did NOT just hype BF on PSP. DID HE???
  • Bagpuss 5 years ago

    hmmm...256 players.

Anyone whos played 64 player games in the Battlefield series, knows how chaotic and unfocused they can be.

Need to be convinced on this one.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

MAG looks great, not my kind of game though :|
  • Cannibal 5 years ago

MAG goes onto my most wanted list.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

MAG looked good. Only game I've seen that makes me want a PS3.
  • Widge 5 years ago

THAT IS A TOTALLY NEW JOKE
  • Ryze 5 years ago

Aaaargghh! I'm supposed to be in LA heckling and shouting SonyLOL whenever they cock up!

edit: Instead I'm sat at home in Manc with my invite email in the inbox, drinking a beer in my boxers with my laptop on Eurogamer.

\o/ best consolation not involving Beyonce!
  • Dante_Cubit 5 years ago

I can't wait for the PS4. I hear it can produce 6,878,343,232 shades of brown.
  • Vistrix 5 years ago

    MAG looks awesome
  • bad09 5 years ago

MAG looks kinda cool, I could get on with that I reckon.
  • MisterCraig 5 years ago

Clearly E3 isn't about the games.

It's about who gets the most whoops.
  • DanC89 5 years ago

    Yay back to brown! :D
  • SwedBear 5 years ago

I got access to the Uncharted 2 MP beta through pre-ordering Infamous and now I'm pretty excited at testing it. I liked the first one (a bit short) so it's definitely a game I will get.
  • Widge 5 years ago

    and quite tactical
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

Is it me or is the crowd alot more awake than both MS and Nintendo
  • mkreku 5 years ago

Holy crap, Uncharted 2 looks absolutely AMAZING!!
  • Widge 5 years ago

    MAG looks massive
  • rotmm 5 years ago

Uncharted 2 looks great (hoping for a better vid later than the blockfest over at gametrailers).

However," on-rails" is an understatement. It's almost Dragons Lair in its scripted sequence after scripted sequence.
  • HermitArcader 5 years ago

Like how they get on with showing the games.

Not more sub Siphon Filter combat, dammnit less of that more puzzling, bah it'll sell better this way but the ok but not great looking combat always seems to undermine the high production values of the Uncharted games.
  • cheekyjay 5 years ago

Uncharted looked fantastic. I love Nintendo, but that one game has had more applause than their entire lame conference.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

    @El-Dev

    Indeed lol

    Many tissues needed.
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

The guy at Digital Foundry has just jizzed himself.

  • bad09 5 years ago

He didn't mention the EG review of Infamous :)
  • Widge 5 years ago

yeah EG, you inFamous party poopers
  • Inigo 5 years ago

This is so boring, i have no interesting in corporate stats.
  • DrR0b3rts 5 years ago

Uru - gway? Para - gway?

They can't get rid of the PS2. It accounts for 87.9% of Sony's profits for starters.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

PS3 has had a great year so far, and it does look like its going to beat MS this year (titles/exclusives). MS didnt really have lots lined up for next year either... wonder if Sony with the money issues can keep it up.
  • jiveguy 5 years ago

    Mmmm, fiscals :)
  • MossyMos 5 years ago

Think I'll go wash the dishes while the numbers go on and on and on.
  • bad09 5 years ago

Today PS2 owner is tomorrows PS3 owner? Yeah right I've gone back to PS2 Jack! :)
  • ronuds 5 years ago

Playstation is going to continue to be the mainstay? I didn't think it was now! :p
  • El-Dev 5 years ago

    Who claps @ this stuff?

    PS2 to start, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
  • Dante_Cubit 5 years ago

2009 is going to be the year of the playstation. Christ... where I have heard that before.

  • persus-9 5 years ago

Yeah but nothing a PC couldn't handle so he should have qualified that by adding in "games console" at some point.
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

Lol funny start, commenting on the leaks. :D
  • Widge 5 years ago

I don't see diddly on home! Although the presentation area is nice and they've changed the chat engine....
  • rotmm 5 years ago

    @El-Dev,

    Only on PS3

  • makeamazing 5 years ago

    Queen is super duper :D
  • Dante_Cubit 5 years ago

I predict they are going to release a red controller that is 50 quid. And gives you aids.
  • Stupid_Fat_Hobbit 5 years ago

No "Fried chicken"? I pronounce this conference a failure!
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

    OK - queen.

    They just beat nintendo.
  • Dante_Cubit 5 years ago

The DelayStation lives up to its name again...
  • bad09 5 years ago

    Late again Sony? ;)
  • makeamazing 5 years ago

Need something that we havent already heard about in leaks ..lol
  • DanC89 5 years ago

Typically late from Sony. I remember a few years ago staying up until 2am to see it when i was 14 or 15 and it was incredibly late starting for no reason whatsoever.

I did get to see some IN GAME Killzone 2 footage though ;)
  • HermitArcader 5 years ago

@DaemonB really? I mean PSP Go is only a redesign no big deal, more interestings things I hope than that otherwise put this E3, the occasional item of interest down as a bit of a bore all round.
  • AphoticCosmos 5 years ago

Sony had better be good. Nintendo was shit, MS was an all-round good conference but not their best. Can we aim for 2/3 this year at least?
  • uiruki 5 years ago

Uh, it's Kazuo Hirai. You're thinking Kazunori Yamauchi of Polyphony Digital.
  • Turambar 5 years ago

Conference delayed due to Ellie not being there yet.

Sonys surprise was deflated the moment "slim" and "go" was plastered all over the net otherwise they would have shit all over MS and Ninty from astronomical heights.
  • Widge 5 years ago

    Its live in home?
  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

Theres a hi-res stream on gametrailers.com. Jaysus why did'nt I check before for the nintendo and microsoft conferences there ?. Ah bollocks!.
  • drumbaby 5 years ago

Just because Msoft's news was mostly a surprise, doesn't necessarily make it better, just more...surprising. :)
  • MossyMos 5 years ago

Who cares if they top the Microsoft conference? I know, wrong question to ask...
  • smelly 5 years ago

well they'd have to be trying VERY HARD to be as boring as both microsoft and nintendo's (for the most part) presentation.
  • toy_brain 5 years ago

It feels as though so much of Sonys E3 stuff has been leaked or announced already that they couldnt possibly have much else to supprise us with.

I hope I'm wrong, but I somehow doubt that they'll top Microsoft for errr.... 'shock and awe' value.

(and I say this as a big PSP and PS3 fan).
  • MossyMos 5 years ago

I am hoping for a glimpse of Starhawk, the next Team ICO project and hopefully some cool LittleBigPlanet addon. With a new Super Mario Galaxy and Dead Space on the Wii, Left for Dead 2 and Alan Wake on 360 I am good for the next 12 months.
  • Dunk_13 5 years ago

im expecting a new metal gear game, possibly not the one about raiden but a seperate one for ps3
  • TheStylishHobo 5 years ago

Hopes it lives up the fantastic Microsoft conference, and likewise, much better than the shockingly "yawn" Nintendo conference.

monster hunter PS3 and I would blow my load.
  • bad09 5 years ago

    @SeesThroughAll

Yeah I had a quick look. I'm am curious about the new SMB on Wii I'm a sucker for 2D Mario!
  • Thiral 5 years ago

Sony for sure needs to show some good stuff today imo, if they want to have a chance against Microsoft. Microsoft got some great things going on, while Nintendo is the same old.. Hopefully Sony show something which makes me buy their console finally (ICO!!!)
  • Turambar 5 years ago

Hmm lot of hate in here already.
  • SeesThroughAll 5 years ago

    @bad09:

Missed N, had to work :(

Don't worry, you didn't miss THAT much.

But there were cool announcements: they announced a new, edgier, Metroid being made with Team Ninja :) and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (with Yoshi) :)

  • MisterCraig 5 years ago

Is there anyway to watch the conference live?
  • HermitArcader 5 years ago

Hope they announce something new and exciting, this revival of E3 has been a bit rubbish so far, though it doesn't help that most games have already been announced/leaked beforehand.
  • bad09 5 years ago

Missed N, had to work :(

Bring it Sony! Come on dazzle me this year, FFS PLEASE dazzle me, I need more use for my media player! I can see it now.....

GT5 PS3 better be in there. If they only announce the PSP version throw something at them Ellie.
  • lavalant 5 years ago

I think they can top all others if they announce Shenmue 3 as an exclusive to PS3.
  • jaywalker3010 5 years ago

  • MilkYMoO 5 years ago

If this is half as good as the microsoft one I'll be happy.

    EXCITING!
  • jerrymanu 5 years ago

  • drumbaby 5 years ago

I predict Monster Hunter PS3. The way PS3 has been performing the last few months in Japan I think Capcom know they'd be onto a homegrown winner. When PS3 sells well in Jpn it sells exceptionally well.
  • Duffking 5 years ago

I can't take any more excitement.

Our live coverage has now ended. Here's what you missed: Updating...

18:58 By Robert Purchese

Ellie is travelling from Nintendo to Sony and she'll be with us soon. We hope there are no shops on the way.

19:07 By Robert Purchese

She's in. Phew. We're nearly ready to go.

19:11 By Robert Purchese

Hello and welcome to Sony's E3 conference! Slightly late start but we're off. A film of the shapes, the PS3, the PS2, the PSP and the PSN symbol is playing.

19:12 By Robert Purchese

Now we're seeing game footage. SingStar, Bayonetta, Army of Two, Brutal Legend, Tekken 6, WipEout HD, Uncharted 2, White Knight Chronicles, LBP, Heavy Rain, Buzz, all to a Queen soundtrack. Contemporary.

19:14 By Robert Purchese

Ninja Gaiden, more SingStar, Final Fantasy, Batman, BioShock, The Saboteur, SAW, Uncharted again. "One vision," says Freddie. "Halo, Mario," says Matt [Martin, editor of GamesIndustry.biz - Ed], unhelpfully trying to mess up my live text.

19:14 By Robert Purchese

Tretton is on stage. "Thank God you guys showed up... Thanks to the industry's ability to keep information confidential, I didn't expect such a turnout."

19:14 By Robert Purchese

"The biggest sens of pressure I feel is trying to do justice to the 364 games we have coming out on PS platforms this year." We're going to see "a ton" on this 40' by 80' screen.

19:15 By Robert Purchese

"PlayStation is going to continue to be the mainstay of this industry." Has it really been 15 years? "2009 will be our best year ever, even better than the record year we had in 2008."

19:17 By Robert Purchese

PS generated 30 per cent of retail sales in 2008, says Jack. Back in April, at the pre-E3 gamers' day, they showed some tip top titles - "And many of you were saying this is the best line-up on PlayStation to date." He's namechecking Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Heavy Rain, Modern Warfare 2, Beatles: Rock Band. "If you want to have the ultimate gaming experience, you need PlayStation. Let's get started with the PlayStation 2." Must we, Jack? IT'S 2009.

19:17 By Robert Purchese

"We don't intend to see an end to PS2 after ten years." Yes readers, PS2 is going to LIVE FOR EVER, like Mumm-Ra.

19:18 By Robert Purchese

This year PS2 will get nearly 100 new titles, including Guitar Hero, Buzz, SingStar etc. And now on to PS3. Phew. "A year ago I said our goal was to sell 10m PS3s, and that's what we did." 22m sold globally last year.

19:19 By Robert Purchese

PS3 coming to Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay later this year. Meanwhile, PSN accounts now at 24 million worldwide. "Let's talk about what consumers really care about - great games."

19:20 By Robert Purchese

He's namechecking inFamous, "This summer's biggest blockbuster title." It's one of more than 35 titles in 2009 you'll only find on PlayStation. And on to Uncharted 2.

19:21 By Robert Purchese

Evan Wells of Naughty Dog is here to show it off. "It's easily our most ambitious project to date." Starting tonight, you can join us in the multiplayer beta. If you're American, presumably?

19:22 By Robert Purchese

Time for some in-game stuff. Nathan is running round a pool on top of a building, the Hotel Shangri-La. Looks like Kathmandu. "Are we going to have to climb that thing?" says his female sidekick. "Yeah, that's usually what happens." Now we're surveying the city and mountains from a great height - it's highly impressive. There's whooping.

19:23 By Robert Purchese

As Nathan tries to shimmy across a pole, a helicopter appears and starts shooting. He and the lady start racing along falling platforms, all the while being shot at by the helicopter.

19:24 By Robert Purchese

Aha, time to duck behind some walls. Then leap into a building, only to be blown to the floor by a huge explosion - the helicopter has taken the wall out. Nathan presses on, hiding behind a table before peeking out to shoot some baddies. The helicopter blows open another wall and Nathan hides behind another table. SHOOT THE HELICOPTER IN THE FACE.

19:25 By Robert Purchese

Nathan jumps down a floor and fires at more baddies. More big explosions and another wall is gone. The helicopter backs up then send two huge missiles into the building. The whole thing is shaking now and Nathan is rolling around on the floor. He and the lady jump through a plate glass window and the shooting subsides. It's over.

19:26 By Robert Purchese

That looked marvellous. "You have to agree it's one of the best-looking games you've ever seen," says Jack. You don't have to, but you could. Now on to MAG.

19:27 By Robert Purchese

Here's Andy Bodewin from Zipper Interactive to show it off. MAG, in case you've forgotten, is a new FPS for up to 256 players. Andy's going to show us a live battle. "Every action you're about to see and hear..." Can't hear over the whooping of the crowd as all 256 player photos appear on the screen.

19:28 By Robert Purchese

The mission in this level is to secure a landing zone and push forward to the enemy facility. Four platoons are assaulting the base. There are loads of enemies knocking around though. First, the player we're following embarks on a bit of recon. He's creeping round a rocky landscape. It's all a bit yellow and, it has to be said, brown.

19:29 By Robert Purchese

Our hero's trying to destroy a bunker. He creeps stealthily through the brown, taking cover behind a tank. An on-screen option shows you can press X to get inside it.

19:30 By Robert Purchese

"Because this action has been assigned to the squad, he's going to get bonus points for every action he takes." He's destroyed the bunker. Now he's going to defend an anti-aircraft battery, which will let commanders call an air strike.

19:31 By Robert Purchese

Helicopters are coming in - if anyone dies, they'll be able to respawn in the helicopters' positions. Now our hero is calling a cluster bomb air strike so his team can push forward.

19:32 By Robert Purchese

There's a huge amount of stuff going on - blokes running everywhere, tanks rolling in, helicopters flying about. The Zipper man ends the demo before the full assault on the base, but invites us to go and try out full 256 player matches on the show floor.

19:32 By Robert Purchese

On to the PSP now. Tick off "content and services" on your E3 bingo card.

19:34 By Robert Purchese

PSP offers a "richer, deeper and more engaging" gaming experience, says Tretton. More than 50 million now sold, thanks in part to bundle "offerings". Assassin's Creed Bloodlines will be out on November 10th. The Hannah Montana bundle is out this July and is pink. Big whoops from the audience. Petz, LocoRoco 2 and Rock Band bundles to follow.

19:35 By Robert Purchese

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's... Kaz Hirai! Hai! I can has Ridge Racer!

19:36 By Robert Purchese

He's off, with that brilliant futuristic android waffling he does so well. Sony's been asking developers and publishers how they can make the new PSP better. Touch screens? Oh: "It's my pleasure today to introduce the next step" for those who lead "a more digital lifestyle. He's got one in his pocket! It's an iPhone! No wait.

19:37 By Robert Purchese

"First we call this, The Worst Kept Secret of E3. And we call it PSP Go." This represents a new evolution. An image is spinning round on screen, showing how it slides open. They will continue to support the PSP 3000 and the UMD. "It's got the same screen, integrated Wi-Fi, it plays the same terrific game, but it's 50 per cent smaller and 40 per cent lighter than the original PSP 1000." 16GB of internal flash memory.

19:38 By Robert Purchese

Integrated Bluetooth. You can see how the screen slides up to show the d-pad nubbin, select and start, shape buttons, from left to right in that order.

19:39 By Robert Purchese

Say hello to Media Go, which replaces the Media Manager. It makes it easier to transfer music, pictures and the like. They're also introducing a thing called Sense Me, which will analyse your music library and deliver a playlist based on the moods you select. It "really enhances the music experience".

19:40 By Robert Purchese

The price of the PSP toolkits are coming down by 80 per cent. Gosh. That means more developers and individuals will be able to make PSP content. The plan is to make it all much easier to connect, wherever you go.

19:41 By Robert Purchese

Whether you want a PSP 3000 or a PSP GO, all the functionality will be in every device. PSP GO is "one more proof point that PlayStation offers the future of entertainment technologies". It will launch in the US and Europe at the same price point as the original PSP on October 1st - USD 249.99. EUR 249.99.

19:43 By Robert Purchese

Starting today, the video delivery service will be available "natively" on the PSP as well. It will be easier than ever to download content direct to your PSP. For the PS Store, they've signed deals with Showtime, G4, E, HD Nett, Magnoila films, Manga and more. "PS has something for everyone, wherever they want to go. But our news does not stop there." It's Kazunori Yamauchi!

19:44 By Robert Purchese

Bye, Kaz! Hi, Kaz! Ah, he's brought a translator. Who's taking notes. Or writing a shopping list, who knows. "I am very honoured to announce Gran Turismo PSP, that I know everyone has been waiting for for so long." He's holding up a PSP Go. Apparently it's running on it, but he's so far away it could be Mario Kart for all I know. "It's running at 60 frames per second. It's a full-scale Gran Turismo."

19:45 By Robert Purchese

"GT PSP contains 800 cars, 35 tracks" and er a load of layout variations on those tracks. Single-player mode has standard racing, time trials and drift trials, and there's a legacy licence mode.

19:47 By Robert Purchese

This is "A full-size GT experience. This is not a shrunken down subset," says Kaz Y. Ad Hoc mode will let you race with up to four players. You can share and trade cars between your garage and other people's garages. It will be hard to gather all 800 cars by yourself, so you can make it easier by getting together with friends. Top Gear meets Pokemon.

19:50 By Robert Purchese

"And finally, take a look at a video we've prepared, and thank you for your time today." THANK YOU FOR THE DREAMS, KAZ. A close-up of the Go - nice buttons. Race cars cruise around on the screen. They're shinier than a varnished diamond. Loads of cars of all the colours of the rainbow spinning around. And it's over. That was nice.

19:50 By Robert Purchese

Kaz H is back, babbling on about best in class gaming or some such. Anyway, Gran Turismo PSP is launching alongside the new handheld on October 1st. But can you use it as a wing mirror?

19:51 By Robert Purchese

It's Hideo Kojima! The slut. First Don, now Kaz. He's not tapping him on the shoulder in an amusing way, however. He's here to show of PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. It will feature Solid Snake.

19:52 By Robert Purchese

"The setting is ten years after Metal Gear Solid 3," 8 out of 10, "In the 1970s. So I can say this is a true sequel of the MGS franchise." Does Kaz know where you were yesterday, Hideo?

19:55 By Robert Purchese

Kojima will be "very deeply involved" in the development. Not retiring after all, then? It's "not a spin-off and not a side-story". He will take account of all the PSP's unique features. He's brought us a trailer. Soldiers in a trench, watching a nuclear test, looks like the fifties. Voiceover mentions "Mutually Assured Destruction" and explains what it was. The US and the Soviets were in turmoil the Cuban missile crisis, and in the midst of it, "one government remained without a military". A tank and soldiers roll through a dusty landscape. Now we see Snake stalking on a rainy beach towards fighting troops. He's in Colombia. He's taking his shirt off! Gosh.

19:57 By Robert Purchese

Snake is seen running through a jungle, creeping hind a wall, across a tin roof. He races across a beach. More tin roof running. He pops a sleeping soldier with and activates a parachute to lift the body clear into the sky. He hangs and shimmies under a bridge, undetected by the sentry above. Wow! Loads of Snake, all lined up! [Four-player co-op? - Ed] They all raise their guns and fire at a big robot aircraft thing overhead. Is that the Peace Walker? "Piss Walker?" says Matt, who should pay more attention.

19:57 By Robert Purchese

To finish we see Snake hiding in a box. Then another Snake comes along and gets in the same box. They scurry off. The end. Date: 2010.

19:58 By Robert Purchese

Kaz is back. Nice slacks. It's quite hard to follow what he says sometimes. Best just to listen out for the nouns. "Booth", "PSP Go", "Products and services". Jack's back. Ahh, remember "I'll chill here on the deck?"

19:59 By Robert Purchese

Resident Evil Portable is on the screen. There's a still of zombies shambling through a city street. Resi is coming to PSP "next year, in a whole new game designed specially for the platform".

20:02 By Robert Purchese

Time for a montage! Roll VT. Looks like stuff we've seen before. LBP, to start with. Oh, that's Jak, and Daxter. Lava level! That's two already this morning! The new Motorstorm. Some chicks who can do lightning. Piss Walker. Giant enemy crabs! I mean Monster Hunter. Fighting. More fighting. "Was that Soul Calibur?" asks Matt. Looks like Eye of Judgment or some kind of variation now. Turn-based battling. Tiger Woods. America football, or is it rugby, I don't bloody know. Tennis. Or badminton. Turn-based battling again. Fat Princess! On PSP! Hooray!

20:03 By Robert Purchese

Hannah Montana! A dog, a cat and a mouse. More American Rugby. Rock Band Unplugged. The end. Hello again Jack.

20:04 By Robert Purchese

Come on now, enough PSP and "content and services". WHERE IS PS4. Oh, PSN. 24 million registered users have downloaded more than 475 million pieces of content. More than 250 titles on the PS Store, and more than 90 are exclusive. You forgot to mention more than six of them are good, Jack.

20:05 By Robert Purchese

More than 50 PSone classics are coming to PSN, starting today with Final Fantasy VII.

20:06 By Robert Purchese

PlayStation Home. Oh no. Please don't chill here on the deck. More than six and a half million users. 85 per cent are return users. More than 100 virtual items are introduced each month.

20:07 By Robert Purchese

"Killer new content" for inFamous, Buzz, SOCOM promised, plus stuff from Namco, EA, Capcom and "Ayedoze." Does he mean Eidos? Video time. An avatar with a mohican wander round his apartment. A Chun-Li woman goes out on her balcony.

20:08 By Robert Purchese

More avatars strut about. Unusually, the male ones don't gather round the single female one like she's a penis magnet.

20:09 By Robert Purchese

The end. That was... Home. Jack, again. PS3 now. WHERE IS PS4. ALSO CAN WE HAS A NEW KRASH BANDYCOOT.

20:14 By Robert Purchese

Footage of Uncharted again. inFamous. American Rugby. MAG. Batman. Brutal Legend. WHERE IS CRASH BANDYCOOT. White Knight Chronicles. Fast cars. Ghostbusters. Ninja Gaiden. Buzz. Saw. Some old Disney tat. God of Warez. Tiger Woods' Amazing Golf Party. Some sort of hamster with a gone. More American Rugby. Cage David's Game About Crying. Snooker. These are PSN titles now. Katamari. Fat Princess MASSIVE PROPS. That weird thing with the monkey that comes out in your lounge and probably eats your face off or something, I mean EyePet. I've had three and a half hours sleep. LBP. Nazis. The Saboteur. I've not even had any breakfast. Ratchet! Boxing. Convicted rapist punching a man in the face. God of Warez again. Aaaaa.

20:14 By Robert Purchese

Lost Planet 2 shipping in "early 2010". Did we know that? Anyway, Rockstar logo is on the screen.

20:15 By Robert Purchese

A new property from Rockstar North - Agent. Exclusive to PS3. A logo is on the screen. The space in the G is formed by a gun. Expect assassins and espionage in the late 1970s. Coming "exclusively to PlayStation". Is this what they bought instead of the GTA DLC?

20:16 By Robert Purchese

And we're on to Assassin's Creed II. Some Frenchmen are here to show it off. Unfortunately not the fit one I fancy who works on the games about the bald man who likes the hiding.

20:18 By Robert Purchese

So far it looks like the same scene we saw in the trailer at the Ubi conference yesterday - the Venice masked ball. But this is in-game footage. Ezio is stalking round, then running up some boxes, leaping across ledges and climbing up to a rooftop. He's climbing all the way up a big tower now, pulling a guard off a ledge and sending his body flying into the canal below. Turns out Ezio is mates with Leonardo Da Vinci. On top of the tower is a flying machine, and you get to fly it.

20:19 By Robert Purchese

Ezio uses the contraption to swoop around Venice, between the buildings and over the rooftops. The view is stunning. He drifts across St Mark's Square before dropping onto a rooftop, leaving the flying machine to catch fire on a stray firework and flutter flaming away. Now we cut to daylight, and Ezio taking a giant leap off a pillar an onto an enemy. Stunning.

20:21 By Robert Purchese

Ezio uses the double-blade to punish a pair of enemies. Hay! Now he's taking on three baddies at once with a big old spear that he nicked off one of them. If you play the PSP version you can unlock six extra weapons in the PS3 game. Ezio walks up to the man he was stalking and grabs him by the neck. The world around him disappears, then comes back.

20:22 By Robert Purchese

That's it for the demo. "But I must inform you, the game is massive in scope. You'll have the opportunity to experience it at its fullest soon. This holiday. " Thank you, Frenchmen. Oh look, it's Madonna! Not really it's Jack Tretton.

20:35 By Robert Purchese

Jack's on about Final Fantasy. You all know FFXIII will be here in the spring, he says, so here's a video. "The whole world was against us," says a voice. The chap with the afro and the girl with the fringe are cruising round in some super-fast, out of control space vehicle. They zoom around an amazing city. Some kind of monster is trapping people with blue tentacles. It's all well Phantom Menace, though not as good obviously.

20:25 By Robert Purchese

Turn-based battling! Spiky haired people fight spiky monsters. There are coloured bars everywhere. Explosions! Glowing balls! Blue thingies! Rubbish hats!

Fin. "Square Enix isn't stopping there," says Jack. He's going to show the first footage of Final Fantasy XIV. PS3 "will be the only console you can play it on when it launches in 2010"

"On a forgotten page of eternity there lies a land embraced by mighty gods. Her name - Eorzea". A huge dragon thing flies above a ship on a stormy sea. Another dragon swoops between explosions as towers fall. The towers are flying themselves, and a man with spiky hair in armour appears to be piloting one. Him and a few friends and one of those big chicken things survey an amazing vista across mountain tops and lush jungle. It's Final Fantasy XIV - Online.

"There's one that didn't leak out, huh?" says Jack.

20:29 By Robert Purchese

He's on about motion-controlled gaming. What? Sony did EyeToy, of course, and the PS Eye, says Jack. "This technology will continue to grow in many ways." Dr Richard Marx and Dr Antony Mikhaeloff are coming on stage. Richard Marx who sang Hazard? No.

20:30 By Robert Purchese

This "far surpasses any technology on the market now", says one of the doctors. But what about Microsoft's yet to be released invisible steering wheel? Wow it's a prototype of a new controller. Looks purple from back here. It has motion sensors "and a glowing sphere on the end the PS Eye can track. Imagine you're playing n RPG game, you choose a fireball spell, and the sphere changes colour." Indeed, it goes from purple to red.

20:32 By Robert Purchese

On screen we can see a virtual TV set. The controller moves one to one as the player moves it. This is really hard to explain, but "it's true one to one tracking" says the doctor. The image of the controller on screen is now replaced with a virtual racket. Not an invisible one, a CGI representation of one. Now he has a CGI baseball bat. A golf club. A Stop sign. He manages to hit a ball with it. It all looks a bit jerky and hit and miss, but this is early days. A huge sword now.

20:33 By Robert Purchese

He's swinging a mace, now holding a fan. Spikes extend from the fan though. Now he's got a torch. Alan Wake would love this. You can move around and point from any position. A foam dart gun now. A gold desert eagle. No bullets are shown flying out though. It's being designed for casual experiences but also "Gamers' games". We're in FPS mode now - the demo man crouches and moves around and on screen, the gun follows his movements.

20:35 By Robert Purchese

"There's no way to do this without a trigger, it just wouldn't feel right." Now he's swinging a laser whip. Light sabers, anyone? The demo man has two controllers now. He's using them to pick up building blocks. This is bonkers. Now he's using the controller as a pencil to write with precision on a virtual piece of paper.

20:37 By Robert Purchese

You can use the controllers to distribute dominoes, then knock them down. Or select troops - "Finally we have an interface on a console that lets us do real-time strategy." You just draw around the troops you want to select. Then you can zoom down into the game to take control of a tank directly.

20:38 By Robert Purchese

Character control now. The demo man is holding one controller like a sword, the other as a shield. A translucent avatar is shown on screen, matching his thrusts and parries. He dispatches a skeleton enemy, then shows off the defensive postures. Horned enemies are creeping towards him now and the avatar as disappeared. Instead, a pair of virtual hands swat the enemies away.

20:40 By Robert Purchese

Archery now. Demo man reaches behind his back, pulls out an arrow and fires. It all looks very precise. Headshot! "I hope these real-time tech demos sparked your imagination." More info in the near future, apparently. Let's hope so.

"Prepare for a launch in spring 2010," Tretton says of the new controller. Gosh. LittleBigPlanet is on screen now. Yes, we know about the PSP game. You'll be able to dress Sackboys as Jack Sparrow, Cinderella, Mr Incredible and other Disney characters from this autumn.

20:42 By Robert Purchese

A new franchise, exclusive to PlayStation 3. Two chaps from United Front Games are coming on to show us ModNation Racers.

20:43 By Robert Purchese

A trailer is playing as they talk. No wait, it's concept art. Animated cars and cartoon drivers. Not unlike Sackboys with their huge heads, but more humanoid. "It's a thoroughly modern take on classic car racing."

20:44 By Robert Purchese

Here's a character the speaker created - a monkey with big shades and a smart white suit. Hi, Cammie! Now let's not be unkind. You can give him a Pinhead head, racing goggles and so on. He's jumping in a dune buggy, but there are sports cars too.

20:45 By Robert Purchese

We're into a race now. Zooming round wide tracks between carton style buildings. It's all quite smooth and colourful. Karts bash into and bounce off each other. Power-ups and ramps which launch you flying over gaps. Looks like you pick up power ups as you drive.

20:46 By Robert Purchese

The track was made using a tool called track studio. We're being shown how you can lay track by driving round in a little golf cart. As you drive, track gets laid down. There's elevation on the right stick so you can make hills.

20:48 By Robert Purchese

In seconds, he's made a working race track. Now he's dressing it up, adding dirt roads as if dragging a paintbrush over the track. Now he's building mountains with another special brush, and now he's adding water with another brush. Finally, he flattens out another bit of the track before spraying dirt around the edges of the track. And sticking some trees on too.

20:49 By Robert Purchese

You can add whole villages, in super-fast time it looks like. It's just a case of picking another brush. He's putting safety cones on the track, and now sheep at the edges. "Baa." Cute. Finishing touches - he's raising the level of the water in the lake, putting in a sunset at his chosen angle to determine the lighting.

20:51 By Robert Purchese

It's LBP meets kart racing, essentially. The track is now all ready to be driven on, or to share online. ModNation Racers is out in 2010.

20:51 By Robert Purchese

Time for another peek at a PS3 exclusive, this time from Fumito Ueda. It's the Mysterious Cities of Gold With the Flying Fox Cat! Or as it's properly titled, The Last Guardian. Trailer.

20:54 By Robert Purchese

We've seen this before. It's the chain going down into a moss-covered well. An eye opens and a shadow of a dog fox cat eagle thing hovers above. The boy out of The Mysterious Cities of Gold races along a stony corridor and into the light. He stumbles off the edge but grabs a pole. The foxeagle picks him up, and the boy strokes him. As Oli put it recently: Climb the monster on the face!

20:55 By Robert Purchese

They're soaring over stony ruins now. Isn't this the music from The Flying Doctors? Anyway, the boy in the towel and the monkeyrabbitweasel share some tender moments. Neverending Stooorrryyyyyyyyyyyyy, aa aaa aaa aaaaaaaaa aa aaaaaaaaaa.

20:56 By Robert Purchese

The dragonotter climbs up mossy ruins and the boy leaps off his head, then climbs up a chain and fights some enemies. Now he is crossing a stone bridge and the music has gone all Riverdance. He sleeps nestled by the ratpigeon.

20:58 By Robert Purchese

Nothing new there then, but nice to see all the same. Time now for a teaser of Gran Turismo 5. London. A man striding onto a race track. The US flag in the breeze. Super sleep sports cars cruising through city streets. Red white and blue smoke in the sky. Cars zooming round a racetrack, amazingly realistic. World Rally Championship logo appears on screen. Cars cruise through cornfields. NASCAR now. More speeding cars, more impressive realism.

20:58 By Robert Purchese

And it's over. Crumbs. But can you put sheep round the tracks?

20:59 By Robert Purchese

God of War 3 now - we're going to see the first few minutes. Stig's on stage. It's a live demo, "The final chapter in our fantasy chapter. We will see how the story ends."

21:02 By Robert Purchese

The demo begins. The camera pulls out to show Kratos in all his glory as flaming dragons sweep across the sky. A group of skeleton warriors thunder towards Kratos. He flings them over the side of the cliff he's on, then dispatches some other ones with bursts of flame before heaving open a pair of huge stone doors. Now we're in a cavern. A giant vulture is feasting on a corpse. Kratos grabs it and lets it fly him across a chasm and up a ledge as he whacks it with is sword.

21:03 By Robert Purchese

Back into open air now and some kind of huge arena. An enormous meteor monster appears over the edge. Kratos extends a pair of wings and flies into the arena before whacking a load of enemies with lightning fast and some slow-mo attacks.

21:04 By Robert Purchese

Now a centaur stalks in along with hordes more footsoldiers. They crown round Kratos but he gathers strength and flings them all away at once. Now he's fighting the centaur, who has a huge spear. But Kratos uses bursts of white energy to whack him before lassoing him with a rope of orange fire, and pulling the Centaur to the ground. He disembowels him with a flourish. The bowels spill out and everything.

21:06 By Robert Purchese

We're focused on the meteor monster now. But there's a serpent coming up from behind! Turns out it's attached to some kind of lion goat thing! It's a bit like The Last Guardian! More Kratos slices off his serpent tail bu the monster still flails about on its hind legs. Eventually Kratos climbs up to its chest and repeated stabs away. The monster turns all goaty again and gets back on all fours. Kratos uses giant chains to whack him into submission, rip its horns off then STABS HIM IN THE EYE.

21:06 By Robert Purchese

Oh no! The demo ends just as we finally get to the big meteor monster. More on the show floor though. [Our hands-on impressions soon! - Ed]

21:06 By Robert Purchese

March 2010 for God of War 3.

21:08 By Robert Purchese

Back to Jack. Whatever, he's not exactly a giant flaming meteor monster with a lion's head, is he? Never mind. "Thank you so much for your attention," says Jack. Thank you Jack, for your big monsters and crazy torch remote controller thingies and the new PSP and everything. Byee!
