Rockstar opts out of E3

Payne, Noire, Agent held back.

Rockstar's not going to E3, favouring instead a more personal event that will take place later in the year.

That means we'll not see anything of LA Noire, Max Payne 3 or mysterious PS3 exclusive The Agent at E3.

VG247 confirmed the publisher no-show this afternoon after a UK journalist tweeted this morning that Rockstar had chosen not to launch a game at E3.

Rockstar recently cantered Red Dead Redemption into town. We liked it very much. Hence the Eurogamer review, face-off comparison and multiplayer hands-on analysis pieces.

Shame, LA Noir is looking very interesting.
  • matrim83 #2 2 years ago

Does MP3 even exist? For a game that was supposed to be released last year there isnt even a single gameplay video.
  • aaronali #3 2 years ago

Bummer. I wonder if that means L.A. Noire's release date will slip.

Surely we could see Agent at Sony's E3 conference.
  • Eraser #5 2 years ago

I doubt anyone's interested in Max Payne 3 anyway
  • cianchristopher #6 2 years ago

Sounds like Sony just made "The Agent" up at the last minute in response to Microsoft's E3 conference last year...
  • BlinxHDD #7 2 years ago

Sounds like you just made "The Agent" up seeing as there's no game by that name! Just "The Agency" (SOE) and "Agent" (R*).

    And you're butthurt that it's PS3 now getting a R* exclusive.
  • Machiavellian #8 2 years ago

I agree with Woodnotes, Agent is a strong part of Sony's forthcoming lineup for the PS3, one would think they would be plenty fucking annoyed to let it slip from their media briefing just because R* wanted to hold their own little party later on.

I believe *R is at the point in their development career that they can do whatever they pleased when it comes to their games. Unless Sony actually PAID for an exclusive and even then I would bet the terms of that deal gives *R complete control. If Sony is pissed, well I am sure they would get over it.

I guess that means the rumoured GTA reveal at E3 100% won't happen then :(
  • reinhart_menken #10 2 years ago

We don't need another friggin' GTA, not so quickly.

There are plenty of other open worlds coming up anyways (unless you're really itching to be a "badass" criminal that sells dope and do drive-bys). This year we have Crackdown 2, Mafia II, LA Noir (if I remember correctly, that's this year right?), Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions.

E3's overrated anyways. I'd rather R* just spend that waste time on their games (I mean, how many business days must they spend to prepare for that? They don't just spend the days they have to appear at E3).

Why are gamers so needy and need these presentations so much?

E3, the world cup and demon souls - yes
  • nuanimal #12 2 years ago

It is a good idea for Rockstar.

Have your own press event and don't compete for press attention with other companies at the same time. Probably a bit cheaper than setting up at E3 too!

"We don't need another friggin' GTA, not so quickly. "

Speak for yourself I can't get enough GTA! Currently playing Episodes and still can't wait for the next one :)

If only RDR was on PC to keep me going until then....
  • makeamazing #17 2 years ago

The next GTA isnt going to be out till next year at the earliest anyway, no need to rush anything with that :)
  • Galathorn #18 2 years ago

    R* doesn't need E3, E3 on the other hand...
  • monkfishjoe #19 2 years ago

Am I the only person who doesn't see what the fuss is about with Rockstar games?

Don't get me wrong, I think they're very well made and ambitious and all, but I just don't think they're as good as everyone else seems too...
  • reinhart_menken #20 2 years ago

@MerricK: Did you just have tunnel vision when you type that, or? Was your hate concentrated on Spiderman? Did your sarcasm somehow blinded you to the three other games I mentioned?

@bad09: heh, yeah. Sorry that came out a bit harsh :p

RDR's not on PC? That's a bummer. I would have thought it'd be. I converted from PC to 360 because I just got tired of the constant need for upgrading. Plus, I figured, most good games that are on PC are also on 360, with the exception of RTS games.

@monkfishjoe: Because they are actually good? I didn't even know RDR is a R* game until I played it (tend to ignore who the dev is, unless it's really big name and I can't ignore it due to it being mentioned all the time), and I fell in love with it.

You might find that out if you had given it a chance? (I'm assuming you didn't give RDR a chance) Or maybe it's just not your genre, then you'll just have to face facts that people actually like them because they're good games, and that you're not in the club.

@Soulwind: I'd actually be a bit miffed if R* think they are on par with Blizzard and id. They're probably as big as Infinity Ward pre-exodus, but they're still not as big as them two. Blizzard and id are Piscassos, the other two are Rivera. (probably a stupid comparison for any art-aware people, due to difference in genre and country, but you get the drift when you ask people both names and they go "Who's Rivera?";)

Max Payne 3... eheheh. Let's place it in a sunny location, with a bald main character...

Yeah, that certainly sounds like Max Payne. *eyeroll*
  • Spekingur #22 2 years ago

@reinhart: Wait till the year draws near. RDR will undoubtedly be released for PC - eventually. Just like they did with GTAIV.

Also, Rockstar isn't normally at E3 anyways. Is this really that surprising?
  • reinhart_menken #23 2 years ago

@Spekingur: That'd be a welcoming news indeed, even if I'm playing on a different platform (still like my old platform very much).

@TheJuriel: Exactly, finally someone seems to also share my distaste (most people seem to love it and have no problem). That was the other thing that I couldn't quite put a finger on. I just felt like something else was wrong with Max Payne but thought it was just my prejudice, stemming from their changing the character.

It's a shame if this is a sign of things to come. E3 needs the big developers like Rockstar to be there to make the show worthwhile.
  • MerricK #25 2 years ago

    @reinhart_menken

Not that bothered about crackdown,as its not really a GTA game. its more a cop version of gta. also as I dont have an xbox (will get one xmas time) doesnt exactly mean much to me. Mafia one wasn't that great and took itself far to seriously. L.A Noire not seen enough of, so I cannot comment.

the last spiderman was awful so to tell me that these games will replace the need for a new GTA is laughable.

Untill spiderman starts jacking cars and and dealing drugs, please dont offened me by saying we don't need another GTA because we're getting spiderman.
  • monkfishjoe #26 2 years ago

Getting negged for a slightly negative opinion of Rockstar...Isn't this forum about debate?
