One of EA's external PR outfits in the UK has said that Rock Band 2 will be released "this side of Christmas".
Overjoyed, obviously, we rang up proper EA to double-check formats and other details, but from the publisher's response it sounds as though the date may have gone out in error and not be final. A spokesperson was unable to confirm anything.
"MTV, Harmonix and EA have not formally confirmed a UK release date for Rock Band 2," we were told.
A few minutes later, the authors of the original mail wrote to say: "The release date in Europe is still to be confirmed. We expect to be able to announce release shortly." Whoops.
Rock Band 2 is already out in the US on Xbox 360 and PS3, and a British TV advert recently claimed the game would be released here in November. Except, we then heard that was a mistake.
Hopefully EA will get to the bottom of this soon though, because, as we said in our Rock Band 2 import review, it's rather good.
Activision will be hoping it slips, though. As you will know if you read our Guitar Hero World Tour review this week, it wins for the moment, but an imminent Rock Band 2 would be more of a threat.

21st of november that'll be the release date all major retailers advertising it plus the advert plus all the 3rd party controllers coming out just before??More than a co-incidence if you ask me...

Just to support this - the microsoft tv add says November and Shopto say 21st Nov so I'd say it's 21st Nov
hooray - still going to buy Guitar Hero for the drum kit and then just the solus for rock Band |

I sold my RB1 instruments to get the RB2 ones - or maybe the GHWT ones but I would prefer the RB2 ones. I really hope it will be released before christmas because right now I only have the GH2 and GH3 guitars and both of them have gamebreaking defects :/

In Finnish online version of Pelaaja-lehti ("Gamer Magazine") there was this article:
"Rock Band 2:n Euroopan julkaisupäivä on vahvistettu. Peli julkaistaan Euroopassa marraskuun 21. päivä Xbox 360:lle. Marraskuussa nähdään tosin vasta pelkkä peli. Kitaran, mikin ja rummut sisältävä soitinpaketti saapuu kauppoihin vasta joulukuussa. Emme saaneet EA:n Suomen osastolta vielä kommenttia asiaan." It translates roughly as: "European release date of Rock Band 2 is confirmed. The game shall be released in Europe on 21st of November for Xbox 360. In November you'll see just the game. Guitar, microphone and drums arrives to shops in December. We did not get EA's Finland department's comment on matter." May still be part of the rumour mill, but at least this lifts hope! :)
