PlayStation Home gets Ninja costumes

Plus: Valentine's outfits for Xbox Live.

From tomorrow, PlayStation Home will be able to purchase ninja outfits for their avatars in the local shopping centre.

"Yeah, ninja outfits!" writes community manager CydoniaX on the US PlayStation blog. There's no word on how much they will cost.

However, CydoniaX did say a special get-together is being held to celebrate the arrival of the outfits. "On February 13th, we’ll be holding an event called I Love Ninjas," he wrote.

"The first instance of the brand-new community-named Home hang-out space, the Gamer’s Lounge, to be completely filled with people in ninja costumes (or a reasonable facsimile using all-black clothing items in your inventory) that we see will win vouchers for SOCOM and Warhawk to celebrate the upcoming spaces." Crumbs.

In the interests of NON-BIAS, it's worth pointing out that new costumes are now available for Xbox Live avatars. To celebrate Valentine's day, you can put on a formal suit and powder blue shirt or make like Kelly LeBrock in a red dress. Crikey.

I know it's optional, I know I shouldn't be posting if I don't care, I know it's not aimed at me etc, etc....but...things like this make me glad I'm back on the DC and PS2 at the mo...

Which ones to go for? The free suit that I won't wear, or the ninja costume that I also won't, but have to pay for?

I know it's very much in style to slag Home, but I like it for the most part. But couldn't they at least give us basic t-shirts in a range of colours so we don't all look like carbon copies of each other? Nothing fancy, just a few versions of a basic t-shirt, in a few different colours, for free.

Ninja costumes rock, in any situation.

On the subject of XBLive avatars, I had a nosey at the customiser again last night and I swear whoever designs their clothing needs to return to the day room. I don't know how many items there are in there now, but I can't imagine more than about 5 of the tops appealing to most gamers. All those gaudy cardigans just look like charity shop fare.
  • Petulant_Radish #6 3 years ago

I make cheese at the weekend. Not this weekend though, as I'll be making bread instead.

"All those gaudy cardigans just look like charity shop fare. "

Yeah but I know plenty of people who actually wear stuff like that. Just sayin' ;).
  • miiiguel #8 3 years ago

I'm with Fawkes. Virtual clothes are not cool. Not even ninja. Pay for them? No way...!
I'll have a go with the Valentine's stuff, if I'm bored because it's free.

Adding Avatars was never a good idea in the first place. NXE is great but would have been even better without the damn Avatars. The Avatars could be a lot more fun if you actually could make them look more like yourself.

    @lambtron

Aw man, now I've insulted your friends ;(

we don't mind bias towards ninjas...

Just walk into any Topman in the country, it looks like someone has been sick into my eyeballs after being set free on the Woolworths pick & Mix leftovers, or I’ve just met the Klaxons. Kids love them, and men like me buy them wishing they were still kids and having fun that never happens like in Skins.

    I’m so old.

    Purchase? Feck off.

Why not have them unlock when you complete Ninja gaiden Sigma or something?

A fool and his money are soon parted, as the vendors of mobile phone apps are well aware. The querstion is, how many fools are there in PS Home?

No, no forget I said that, sorry....

"The querstion is, how many fools are there in PS Home?"

There are going to be a lot of Ninjas chatting up dudes with a female avatar. Lots. Won't be able to move for fucking Ninjas.
  • Monkey_Puncher #16 3 years ago

They charge for clothes in Home?

    What a waste of money!
  • JohnnyWashnGo #17 3 years ago

What a complete and utter waste of time.
  • chessboxer #18 3 years ago

At the end of the day, the clothes are there is people want to buy them. If they don't, then they can use what's provided for free. You're not forced to buy clothing and you're not penalized for not parting with your cash.

They will be charging for Avatar clothes soon as well, but many seem to have forgotten about that.
  • Britesparc Verified Creative, ITV #19 3 years ago

Well MS have said that they don't plan to charge for Avatar clothes but I guess we'll see... I imagine they'll do more sponsored clothes for free and eventually maybe charge for, say, a Master Chief outfit or something.

Personally, I like the avatars, and I think mine does look like me - guess I've just got a low-polygon-count face. But if you don't really like them, it's not as if they take anything away, is it? They're there, they exist, but if you just wanna play a game they're not in your face.
  • udat #20 3 years ago

How do you know they will be charging for them? I am not saying they won't be, I'd just like you to back up your statement.
  • miiiguel #21 3 years ago

@Britesparc: you're right, there are some Avatars who are (almost frightly) just like their source.
  • stevetuck #22 3 years ago

Who gives a crap? Second Home is a load of old tosh anyway
  • chessboxer #23 3 years ago

When the NXE was launched, they said that clothes would be free for 6 months (stories were on here and Joystiq). MS are working on an Avatar store which should launch probably at the back end of May.

And I'll stick to my chavvy England shirt on NXE thanks.
  • Uncle_Fishboy #26 3 years ago

Mmmm...kelly lebrock in a red dress. YUM. 20 years ago of course. Now she's a total pig, but then that's what you get for being nobbed by Steven Seagal for donkeys years.
  • BobsUncle #27 3 years ago

Do people still use this pile of shit?

Last time I was on it, it was full of wankers running up to any female avatar trying to chat them up. Oh, and there was fuck all worth doing, unless you like trying to get people to all stand together doing the "Running Man". Genius.
  • muscleblade #28 3 years ago

"They're there, they exist, but if you just wanna play a game they're not in your face. "

On the dashboard theyre actually right in your face. Annoying.

"there are some Avatars who are (almost frightly) just like their source. "

This is true. One of my friends look exactly like his Avatar. Thats pretty cool. I just wish everyone could do the same. I mean my friend is a little bald fatty. Thats easy to mimmick. If i could use Abel from SFIV as Avatar that would make me very happy. He looks exactly like me.

I try to download the gamerpicture with him but get an error message.

  • ronuds #30 3 years ago

Why would NXE be "better" if not for the avatars? LOL, there's absolutely nothing that requires you to use or look at them.
  • GamesConnoisseur #31 3 years ago

I AINT a baldy fatty and my look still get perfectly replicated in my avatar! Creepy said my friends who knows me in real life!

You dont have to purchase clothes if you dont want to, its there purely for people WHO do want to purchase and wear the clothes virtually.

Pointless some of us think, but hey market works!
  • miiiguel #32 3 years ago

    If I could replicate Nick Cave, that would look exactly like me :}
  • dominalien #33 3 years ago

As much as I'd like to care, I have only one thing to say:

    Whatever.
  • VibratingDonkey #34 3 years ago

Buy this stupid thing for our thing in the thing and you might win a thing.

    "I Love Ninjas"
More like "Sony Wants Your Money So We Made This Event Slyly Encouraging You To Purchase A Ninja Outfit".
Ah whatever, people will buy what they deem has enough value attached to it. I won't buy any digital clothing ever, nor do I care much for Home, so whoopdedoo.

That there is an event is certainly positive though. Home needs more of that kind of stuff. And I do love ninjas. If they make a pirate outfit next things could get interesting.
  • TRUTH #35 3 years ago

All this digital pay-per item (ninja costumes) is just soooooooooooo soulless!!!...You must be extremely materialistic & sad to pay for silly things of no real value in real life.
  • Moonflower #36 3 years ago

Slow newsday i guess? Wouldn't call this breaking news ^_^
  • Rodney #37 3 years ago

    TRUTH,

    isnt virtual stuff immaterial though?
  • Ryze #38 3 years ago

Events on these online services are definitely a good idea.

I'd like to see more game events tied to particular titles and services, with the publishers putting up 50 or more copies of a game, accessory or other item for grabs to gamers who get lucky or skillful on the day.

Great promo opportunity - would be nice if use of the camera could tie in here too. And the 360 primetime channel.
