"No plans" for Geometry Wars 3

Cakebread on "all sorts of other projects".

Bizarre Creations' Gareth Wilson has revealed that the studio doesn't plan to continue its classic Xbox Live Arcade series, Geometry Wars.

"Right now we don't have any plans for Geometry Wars 3 or anything," Wilson told Kotaku on the site's podcast.

Stephen Cakebread, the Bizarre coder who created the abstract twin-stick shooters, is busy working on other things, Wilson said.

"That doesn't mean that at some point Stephen won't have a genius moment and will start working on it, but right now Stephen is working on all sorts of other projects," he said.

One of those projects is surely Blur, the arcade racer currently in beta testing that will be Bizarre's first major release for owners Activision when it appears on 28th May.

The very first Bizarre game to bear the Activision logo, however, was 2008's last of the twin-stick blasters. Read our Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 review to discover why you'd want a sequel - or why it doesn't need one, depending on your point of view.

So... They decided 'yeah, let's not bother printing any more money with a cheap-to-produce and high-sales game, let's make something enormously expensive in a competitive marketplace instead'.

    Sensible.

    Bah, humbug! :(

Still, pleased they're not just telling Mr Cakebread (excellent, excellent name) to churn out more versions. I'm perfectly happy to wait until he thinks it's worth doing another one, if that day comes.

I would love to have Geometry Wars 2 on the PC, so I can take it with me (the XBox is not exactly portable in that sense :)) but still, very good game.

Surely the accolade of greatest name goes to the venerable Turkish businesshumanoid Mustafa Koc? He of Koc Holdings? (Thanks Brendan)

Cakebread... I want to eat him.

Had this been part of 'blur' I would have had a hard time not going for it...

I don't think there is a need for Geometry Wars 3. The game is pretty much the epitome of twin stick shooters and will be hard to make even better. But then again, that may be why I am not the one making awesome games like these, no imagination/vision.

Heh... Just for the sake of pedantry, that name is certainly not pronounced "cock". Depending on the spelling (there are two similar letters in Turkish, one is pure "c", the other has a little tail on the bottom), it is pronounced either "G" as in "geometry" or "ch" as in "chocolate". So, not so interesting after all ... (Also, more obviously, "Mustafa" is not pronounced in any way similar to "must have a";)

Meho, are you the destroyer of fun? :)
I loved Geometry Wars 2, right up until everyone on my friends list got better than me, then I got angry and gave up.

Did somebody mention my name? No? Oh, they were calling out for the fun Destroyer.

    As you were.
