NFS: Shift adding Ferraris next week

Car maker back after seven years.

EA and Ferrari are best friends again, which means that after seven long years, shiny red sports cars are returning to Need for Speed.

Owners of the Xbox 360 version of NFS: Shift can, from 16th February, download 10 sleek Ferraris.

The Ferrari Racing Pack will cost 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80/€9.60) and also includes 46 new Ferrari-specific challenges - hot laps, eliminator, endurance, world tour - and 125 extra Gamerpoints.

The 10 new Ferrari cars are: 1996 Ferrari F50 GT, 2005 Ferrari F430 Spider, 2005 Ferrari FXX, 2005 Ferrari Superamerica, 2006 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, 2006 Ferrari F430 Challenge (Online/Quick event only), 2006 Ferrari F430 GTC (Online/Quick event only), 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia, 2008 Ferrari California and 2008 Ferrari 16M Scuderia Spider.

Maybe that's Jeremy Clarkson. Maybe he'll crash.

Like tomatoes, they're red (one's yellow) and juicy. And we've taken pictures of them for you.

Need for Speed: Shift, released in September 2009, got the series off the street and onto the race course. The results were impressive, and there's plenty of room to grow. Our Need for Speed: Shift review can tell you more.

Anyone still playing this? I considered getting it as a stopgap until Forza came out, but the ridiculous lag in the controls completely put me off.

Remember in the old NFS games? NFS3 and 4 especially you were only allowed to use Ferraris in certain races as Ferrari didn't want to be seen to be 'encouraging lawlessness'.

    I miss Hot Pursuit.

10 new cars in Forza costs 400 pts... 10 new cars in SHIFT... 800.

@CrunchinJelly: This IS EA, after all. I'm surprised they didn't have some cars or tracks as 'free DLC for purchasers of new copies'.

I thought SHIFT was pretty good although a bit lacking in tracks. Still I'd like to see this DLC released for the PC version please.

Sounds very tempting - although after I've started playing iRacing a month ago, I suspect it might be pretty difficult to go back to NFS: Shift, even if just to mess around for a few hours.

    @KingAntoine

I believe they did say in interviews and on their forum that they were planning on supporting the game with DLC - although in very vague terms.

@CrunchinJelly: it's not just cars, read the news.

I still play this on a regular basis, so my heart sang when I read the title. Shortly afterward, however, it sank as I own the PC version.

C'mon EA, show PC gamers some more love!

I didn't even notice it said 360 only. Well, looks like this is irrelevant for me anyway then as I have the PS3 version (and might be inclined to buy the PC version if I can find it for a reasonably price, as I've found it's actually easier for me to hook up my G25 in front of my PC than my PS3).

Edit: I just checked the official forums, it definitely does sound like this is going to be a 360 exclusive rather than just a case of small delay in platform specific announcements and/or release dates.
A very bad move in my opinion. I can sort of understand Microsoft paying off EA to keep it off the PS3 - as reprehensible as that might be (or perhaps there may even be platform specific licensing issues getting in the way there, because of Ferrari Challenge on the PS3), but not releasing it for PC either seems a bit odd.

Did it sell well enough on PC to justify the added development cost for adding DLC?

Have EA fixed the 360 version? the cars jumping off the track thing and other suspention related bugs.I liked this game playing in low class unmodded cars but it fell to bits driving anything modded or fast.

Exclusive content on multiplatform games is just bad, I thought we saw the last of this already when publishers saw what it did to their playerbase.

Here's hoping for all NFS fans that this is just a delayed announcement and the PC and PS3 content isn't too far away.

I think it is a licencing issue keeping it off the PS3, but different DLC for different platforms is a bad idea.
Incidently there is different DLC coming to Shift for the PS3 and PC in March according to a blog post on the NFS Website
