Tomb Raider on PS3
But not for a while.
Lara Croft will make her way to PlayStation 3 eventually, but you shouldn't expect to wrap your thumbs around her until July 2007 at the earliest.
Tucked away in Eidos' financial results for the year ended June 2006 was a note that it's planning "new versions of Tomb Raider (including a PS3 version)" for release in as part of its 2008 financial year line-up.
That's because the company's hedging its next-gen bets, and hasn't planned any PS3 releases between now and June 2007.
"This is consistent with our policy to launch titles on a new platform when the platform reaches a commercially viable installed base," it said.
Eidos has been a fairly strong supporter of the rival Xbox 360, with Hitman: Blood Money, Tomb Raider: Legend and Just Cause most recently.

I wish they would get rid of stupid boss fights and focus on platforming and puzzles.

I can't say I loved the shooting sections, or the bike-riding, or the boss fights. The rest was decent while it lasted.

Nothing can beat that feeling I had playing the original on the PS1 way back. They need to basically return to that completely and put proper exploring, puzzles and relevent locations back in. Basically like TR1 but done properly with modern GFX and controls.

I'm surprised Tomb Raider is still relevant these days. The entire theme and presentation seems antiquated as fuck.

I wondered when the story would continue, but was almost afraid to inquire, as I felt it best that the team have all the time they need, sans hype, to put out a first class follow-up to the new Tomb Raider, that's shown when it's ready.
Legend was great fun, with some great design choices evident.
Certain things, like the Bike chases - awkward - and boss sequences, though, didn't work as well, but I'm happy to put these misteps down to the devs being new to TR, and trying new elements out.
Overall though, a good game.

The bottom line is that TR Legend sold very well, it was by far the best-selling game from Eidos, it sold twice as much as the next best-selling, Hitman. It also got much better reviews than TR AOD and many reviewers including EG said it had brought the series back from the brink.
With success like that, what are they meant to do, abandon the series just because it's been around for 10 years?
Do you think publishers should abandon the Metal Gear and Final Fantasy series because they've been around for 20 years?

But it felt more like Prince of Persia than Tomb Raider to me. They need to bring back the atmosphere and slow pace of the first games. In the new game, you just jumped from level to level, and never had the chance to really soak in the atmosphere, unless you just stopped and looked. It didn't feel like and adventure game anymore.

A series that sorely needs to die if I ever saw one.

At least with the MGS series, Kojima finds ways to innovate each and every time and make each new experience feel like a unique one. And at least with FF, each new sequel has a completely different world, different characters, and somewhat different goal. From what I played of the last TR, the only reason it seemed awesome was because it was the first *decent* one in how many years?
