Final Fantasy XII slips beyond March 2005

And grazes its knee, probably.

Final Fantasy XII won't be out before the end of March 2005, according to comments attributed to Square Enix president Yoichi Wada in the Japanese Asahi Shimbun, although it should be out before the end of 2005.

Said Wada: "there are no plans to release the game within the current fiscal year," which ends on March 31st 2005. This despite the game's fairly strong showing at E3 this year, where it was equally praised and cursed for its art style reminiscent of PlayStation 1 underachiever Vagrant Story.

The PS2 game, the first original single-player Final Fantasy adventure since 2002's Final Fantasy X (we're not counting X-2, obviously), had been set for release in "winter of 2004 to spring of 2005," but no longer. We'll let you know when it gets a firmer release date.

    WHAT?! That's bullshit! What's the hold up here, huh? I don't like to be kept waiting for my fix of JRPGs, especially when it comes to FF! Get the finger out already you twunts! Release it!

    And why don't you count FFX-2 exactly? It was fine. I hear people bitch about that game all the time and they never have any solid reasons for doing so. Most FF fans need to learn to appreciate what they're given and not be such whining little fanboy arses all the time!

    Because FFX-2 wasn't an original game, it was a spin-off. How's that difficult to understand?

    (We actually liked FFX-2. Gave it 8/10 in fact.)

    I never said I didn't understand why you didn't count it, I'm just one of those people that counts FFX-2 as the 'unofficial FFXI', seeing as THAT game is never getting a PS2 release in Europe it seems.

    Basically, FFX-2 HAD everything you could really expect from a 'proper' numbered FF game, not like all those... 'odd' spinoffs like the awful Crystal Chronicles and the 'Just okay' FF Tactics. It was FF as FF is meant to be, and I for one feel it SHOULD be counted amongst the rest of them like it deserves.

    Now you're over-reacting - i have to respond when you call FF:tactics 'just ok' - the GBA version has more depth to it and the plot makes more sense than the than the ps2 rpgs so far... (but i still like ff VII,IX,VI..)

    FF Tactics is fine if you like that kind of thing. You like it better than the PS2 games? Thats fine, everyone has their own tastes.

    The PS2 games got a bit boring after a while - repeatedly fighting battles got tiring after a while (having been worn out over many FF titles..), especially when you can win just by pressing x all the time... the boss battles required a bit more strategy, but I preferred the depth of the tactics game - maybe I'm just a bit final fantasy'ed out - I look forward to the revised battle system in XII to cure me of this maybe....

    I think we shouldn't count FFX-2 because it was absolute shite. 8 out of 10 my bottom. IMHO, of course. ;-)

    At Game Star Live I asked the Markting Director nof Square Enix Ltd about it and he said that they will be translating for an Americam release and a European launch should follow shortly afterwards!

    I didn't like CC, and Tactics was okay, but a bit boring. IMO! Just IMO! Shirty bast.

    Erm, I wasn't pleased by the last 3 single player games. However I was pleased with the bunch before that... Maybe it's just I'm not pleased by shitiness, Tengu?

    This will be the reason I buy a PS2 again, Final Fantasy X was the reason I bough my original PS2. IMO FFVI, VII, IX and X are ace, VIII just got boring. Also FFTA is pretty fun, couldnt really get into the PS1 FFT though. Although while im in no doubt this game will be amazing im not eagerly anticipating this, but then again I havent been too enthusiastic about games these days :(

    I'm sure the reason behind this delay is to allow them to "Optimize" the game for PAL territories.
