Taxi Driver: info, screens News

PlayStation 2 Xbox News by Ellie Gibson

20 May, 2005

As we reported previously, Majesco is set to publish a game based on Scorsese classic Taxi Driver next year - and now they've released the first screenshots, which you can find here.

Playing as psycho cab driver Travis Bickle, it's your job to wash the scum off the New York City streets via a series of driving and on-foot combat missions.

A healthy arsenal of weapons is promised, and will include the Colt 25, .44 Magnum, Mac 10, Shotgun, M-16 and dual fire pistols and SMGs.

Or you can just get stuck in with your fists and pull off “a multitude of grisly finishing moves,” all the while accompanied by a super sounds of the seventies score.

There's no word yet as to whether or not Robert De Niro will be lending his likeness and voice to the game, probably because they're too scared to even ask him.

Taxi Driver is due out on PS2 and Xbox in spring 2006.

Did these developers actually see the movie, or is there a re-make out there by John Woo on which this game will be based?

I think Deniro uses a gun in one squence at the end of the film and then shoots himself soon afterwards. Its gonna be a real short game. I bet they dont even have a "commit suicide" option. Or a "become obsessed with underage Jodie Foster" option. Do you get to take Sybill Shepard to an inappropriate film on a first date?

What *are* they going to put in this movie?

Christ. Did the Fight Club game teach license grabbing developers nothing?

You have to ADAPT a film's message into ludic form, not re-skin an existing game with your license. EVEN A LITTLE CHILD KNOWS THAT!

Im sure there will be a "Dance dance Revolution" style level where you have to say "You talkin' to me?" then draw a gun within a set period of time by pressing buttons in order.

Or maybe not.

Dave J,

I hope you get banned for this. I really do. Either Microsoft or Sony can manipulate statistics to prove that their console is more powerful. Even you should be able to figure this out.

And besides, I don't give a flying fuck which one *is* more powerful. Post this shit in a tech forum where people will probably swallow this technological grandstanding all the better. This is a thread about the Taxi Driver game.

/gets off soapbox

I'll hold off judgement on the Taxi Driver game until I see how it plays. Don't know if it will follow the plot of the movie, or will take place afterwards ala the Scarface game. The ending of the movie is ambiguous - you don't know if Travis Bickle dies or not, so the game could conceivably be a followup to the movie. Scorcese said he was thinking about doing a sequel to the movie, anyway. The game looks like it could be good.

It isn't a spoiler if it isn't true. De Niro doesn't shoot himself.
