Power Stone Collection for PSP

Dreamcast classics resurrected.

Classic Dreamcast fighters Power Stone and Power Stone 2 are being resurrected for the Sony PSP.

Power Stone Collection will include both 3D brawlers, complete with all your favourite characters, interactive arenas and - in Power Stone 2, at least - four-player melée action.

Both games will be enhanced and updated - expect an improved interface with new health bars and arrows to show you where to find loose power stones, plus new weapons. Power Stone 2 will feature a new adventure mode with additions to the traditional item creation system, and an exclusive Bomber Battle mini-game that Dreamcast owners missed out on.

There's also a new camera that's been specially designed to suit the PSP, with widescreen, close-up and mid-range viewing options, and an ad hoc wireless multiplayer mode. Thanks to game sharing you'll only need one copy to make use of it.

Power Stone Collection is due out in the US by the end of the year, with a European release likely to follow soon after.

Oooh, the PSP just got interesting.
  • Genji #2 6 years ago

Bloody hell. I really want this, but it's on the PSP, which I otherwise had no intention of buying.

    I am torn.

Ooooh.. This might be the straw which convinces me to buy a psp.

    (unlikely.. but possibly)
  • redd #4 6 years ago

yep, powerstone was an awesome multiplayer game... oh the saudades...

It's either this and a PSP or buying a Dreamcast, a copy of both games and a few pads (and about £50 spare cash ;) )... an interesting dilemna.

    Yeah...

If it was actually a sequel to Powerstone, I might be tempted. As it stands, I already have both games on my DC.

The first one was much better, by the way.
  • Kon #8 6 years ago

Still play these on my DC every once in a while so i probably won't be buying this.

However, all these ports have got me hopefull that Capcom will one day soon release a Rival Schools collection. Now that i would buy in a second.

    "... oh the saudades..."

    you portuguese redd?

"The first one was much better, by the way."

    Much, much better indeed.
  • Tejstar #9 6 years ago

I have both on the DC too and wonder whether the sequel will really work on the PSP as at times the sprites can get quite small when the camera moves out.

Whilst the first was better in single-player the sequel can't be challenged in terms of multiplayer.

Actually, it's not that great if its wireless internet play, becuase 3 quarters of the fun of powerstone is being able to throw the controller at the 3 other people you're playing against or blocking their view or doing something else physically devious.

    OH-EM-GEE

Portable Powerstone, and both games at that - yes please.
  • Ecanem #12 6 years ago

"by the end of the year".. Damn, woudn't mind a piece of that right now.. - would prefer Powerstone 3 on ps2 (or ps3) though..
  • MrGrumpy.au #13 6 years ago

@gerg, get both versions if your budget can accomodate it as the DC versions (Powerstone 1 + 2) look superb on a large TV.

It's really great to see more of the DC/NAOMI classics seeing home versions, now if only SEGAs Rez could be ported to the PSP as well (would work and look great on the handheld) it would get even better as it's a great game.

I wasn't too serious with my 'interesting dilemna'. If I was, I'd get the Dreamcast versions, and woudln't bother with the PSP.
  • ssuellid #15 6 years ago

First one was excellent. Powerstone 2 was not really worth the effort imo - big disapointment.
  • trevd72 #16 6 years ago

this game is wasted on the PSP. HTis would have been so much better on the ps2/xbox/GC. especially with online play.

  • dr_faulk #17 6 years ago

Well, the PSP is pretty much being cemented in my mind as the biggest waste of money ever put upon mankind. I bought, and then DOWNLOADED both on the Dreamcast...what, four years ago?

    More like Portable Shit-Pile.

Must buy me a portable DC and do the same!

Yeah, 'cause portability makes games better. Or it at least justifies paying €250 for a console and €40+ for 5 year-old games.
  • ElephantMonkey #21 6 years ago

I'm now officially happy that I kept my PSP after ordering a DS Light.

    dr_faulk

Yeah, 'cause portability makes games portable, which is kind of the point of any handheld which plays more than just 5 year old games.

Say.... that bait was juicy, dr_faulk....yum yum! Thanks!

    :)

  • dr_faulk #23 6 years ago

    BillDoor

Exactly! Same shit, higher prices. I'm too old and grumpy to pretend to be happy about another game in a franchise.

    drumbaby

Hmmm, not really! Bringing around something that you're bored to death with isn't exactly fun. And yes there are newer games for the PSP but lets face it.... huuuuge reliability on the back catalogue, like boring old GBA inheriting the SNES catalogue.
  • dr_faulk #24 6 years ago

Funy, that's what I've been playing the most, lately.
And Res 4. Because that's just the best.
  • dr_faulk #25 6 years ago

lol. Nice try. I'll be honest - I'm really looking forward to Res 5. And if it's more of the same of Res 4, I won't complain.

But am I incorrect in assuming the PSP's been having a pretty lousy time lately? I really have been put off by the lack of decent games. Powerstone won't sway me.

to Kon: yep, check my profile, it has just been updated!

    D'O berço da pátria huh?

Nice to see a fellow tuga here in EG. ;)
  • lucky_jim #28 6 years ago

I must admit that other than Virtua Tennis, this is the thing that's most made me seriously consider a PSP- and I've got both on my DC. I can't explain it, but I know I'd buy them. Yep, I'm everything that's wrong with games :(
  • Bezzy #29 6 years ago

Cool. I can finally check it out. People keep saying our game is a lot like it, and I never actually played it!
  • absolutezero #30 6 years ago

Time to dust off the PSP, its been sitting about doing nothing since I stopped playing Metal Gear.
