Ubi to publish Faces of War

Formerly known as Outfront II.

The PC real-time strategy title formerly known as Outfront II has picked up a publisher in the shape of Ubisoft - and a new name to boot.

Faces of War is a squad-based RTS set in Europe during WWII that puts you in charge of commanding American, English, Soviet and German troops. The game features real-life conflicts, such as the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, all rendered "in shocking detail".

We're promised super-advanced AI, too - soldiers will think about the best way to execute the orders you give them, rather than just ploughing straight in. Which means the game "Takes combat gaming to a new level by integrating a psychological element," apparently. It's being developed by Ukrainian studio Best Way, also responsible for the award-winning Soldiers: Heroes of World War II.

Ubisoft has already released some new screenshots for the game, which is due to hit the shelves in March.

    "all rendered "in shocking detail""

Jesus, they aren't kidding there either. That second screenshot is a winner. I didn't realise bright blue shoes were such a key part of the allied arsenal.

Whats going on with the comments here. My first one disappeared, now I'm back and the replacement comment has buggered off.

Anyway, some of the other screens actually looks quite nice so apologies to the devs. I just picked a bad one to start with.

Looks nice, squad-based strategies are always welcome in my house. A bit dubious about it being real-time though, perhaps there's a pause function to take stock and think out a strategy.

Looks like Soldiers 2 - which is good cos I liked Soldiers 1 but it just needed more dev time - so here's hoping the sequel is even better ;-)

There can't be many words left that can possibly be put before "of War". What will they do when they've run out?

    "Biscuits of War"
    "Penguins of War"
    "War of War"

Soldiers was definitely very detailed, so no worries there. I hope that this one is easier though, Soldiers was a bitch to finish (what the hell, the first mission was a bitch to finish, and it only got harder after that!).

Wink, bringing you exessive and inappropriate levels of anger whatever the weather.

Bad news for me as I feel like buying every Ubisoft game these days. Can't they just either (1) concentrate on one or two titles or (2) come out with the odd crap game?

@Wink: Thanks to you, this thread will be the entertainment event of the year. Someone arrange live telecast on CNN!!!

Steady on there, Wank. Nobody brought you in here at gunpoint.

Wink, my grandad was English. Wouldnt that make him an English troop? Tenner says the characters in the game have *ENGLISH* accents.

Someone quote this for me as he's got me on ignore!

Edit: And isnt Britain made up of three countries? Its the UK which is four no?
