X3: Reunion beta testing starts

Why not join in the fun?

The beta test programme for intergalactic trading-combat game X3: Reunion has now begun, according to a statement on developer Egosoft's website.

"If you are a DevNet member and NDA-holder and have some free time that you would be able to contribute to serious beta testing, then you are invited to visit the L5 DevNet forums, read what will be required of you, and sign up for testing in the appropriate forum thread," says Egosoft.

X3 is said to feature "a completely redesigned X universe", along with a new economy system, more than 200 new models and movie-quality graphics. The game is due out on PC on September 30, with an Xbox version to follow early next year.

I've not been following this game,

Is it basically Elite for the 21st century??
  • Macross #2 7 years ago

er, most people say its a poor man's elite, but its still damn good. it looks very nice, and yeah its pretty much like elite would be these days, although with less detail (ie in previous ones you cant fly towads a planet and land on its surface like you could in elite, its more purely space based, although you can land on planets its via space stations i guess, dunno about X3 though, who knows :p)

You couldn't land on planets on elite.. unless you count crashing into them, its FRONTIER which introduced thr impossible-to-land-without-an-autopilot feature.

X3 does feature planet landings, and its a game i'm really looking forward for...

X2 was marred by its interface - a bloody nightmare. Fix that, and you have a spectacular game.

Please, please, please get it right this time Egosoft.

The interface is fixed, it's a lot friendlier this time round.

    Yep, inerface is fixed.

It wasn't the only thing broken though.

    /kicks flight model.

Looks like we're going Babylon 5 esq too. :(

The screenies are very nice looking, but at the same time make me whimper at how much it'll cost me to upgrade my pc to play it. My 9800 pro 2.3ghz machine struggles to hit 20fps with X2 as it is.

Ok i stand corrected and very pleasantly so too. thanks.

X2 was a bit of a disapointment really the crappy interface and the horrible horrible cutscenes if you tried to follow the plot, oh yeah and the flight model, where all kinda poop, they said they where making it like freespace but it was a pale comparison to that.

Fingers crossed that X3 does it all well, i really do hope to god that it kicks ass :)

Is it just me that thinks of the X-Men movies whenever they here something like X3 or X2? I thought this was news of the game of the third movie.

    *gerg is incredibly stupid*

Erm... why? How much ram have you got?
    I've got a 9800pro, and a 2.8, gig ram and can get 60+fps.
Have you turned off Shadows? They're a killer system performance wise.
