Jaffe hints at God of War 3

He's "very confident".

David Jaffe has indicated that God of War may eventually become a trilogy of games.

Writing on his blog, the outspoken developer said that God of War 2, a PlayStation 2 exclusive, is coming together very nicely. Well, "very, very nicely".

"I played a bunch of levels last week and it's really, really fun. The art and music is much better than the first game and there is some damn fine level design going on in the new game," he wrote, before adding, "As Cory and I have said to the press, this is the second act of a bigger story."

"And when you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series. But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the GOD OF WAR trilogy. You never know, but that's me just putting it out there."

With Kratos' first adventure on PS2 hugely acclaimed - and a massive seller worldwide - it's hard to imagine it not happening.

It's even harder to imagine it not happening on PlayStation 3, too, which should launch at around the time God of War 2 is reaching completion.

It sounds like Jaffe's enjoying himself either way. "We had a MARATHON tweak session all day and I am now just about to crawl into bed, only to hop up at 8am tomorrow and do it again," he wrote in a subsequent update.

"But this really is the most fun part of the game, tuning and tweaking till you hit that sweet spot that = fun!"

w00tage. I hope their next IP will be on PS3. The GoW trilogy will most likely be PS2.

The first was very enjoyable and just a pleasure to go through.

    Looking forward to 2.

they should really finish the trilogy on PS2, to be fair to those that have supported the games thus far.

but i doubt they will, GOW3 will no doubt be on PS3 to encourage fans of the series to make the leap.

I don't know. I'm not calling the developers lazy, but if I were them I would work on a completely new engine for PS3 and make a new IP while using the old, but slightly improved engine on PS2. It would make it easier to develop.

i agree with you in theory, but GOW2 is out in March(ish) 2007, so thats about a year and a half after the first one. therefore we could expect GOW3 in October(ish) 2008. that is far to late to be releasing PS2 games and still expecting them to sell well.

edit: dont forget 2008 is a post Halo 3, MGS4 and GTA IV world.

March 2007 is two years after the US release date of GoW.

I'd love to see GoW 3 on the PS3; it would be one of Sony's AAA titles to really make me spend the money on getting the console.

Loved the first one and I'm really looking forward to the second. Roll on Spring '07.

I just loved the first GoW... I bought it and played the first level for a while. I though to myself... It's just another generic Prince Of Persia type of game. This is the kind of game that slowly grows up, nice gameplay, fantastic storyline, great puzzles (generic but entertaining) and graphics that I thought impossible to the PS2. This game, Resident Evil 4 and Half Life are among the best games I played on the PS2 or any kind of platform/pc. As everyone else, I'm looking forward for GoW2. Greetings from Lisbon.
