Donkey Kong takes over February 4th News

GameCube GameBoy Advance News by Tom Bramwell

9 December, 2004

Nintendo has revealed that Game Boy Advance title DK King of Swing (screenshots) - an unconventional Donkey Kong game featuring platform and puzzle elements, but largely based around swinging through trees using the L and R buttons - will launch alongside the GameCube's Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (screenshots) on February 4th next year.

Nintendo had previously revealed that Jungle Beat, which uses the bongo controllers made famous by above-average rhythm-actioner Donkey Konga earlier this year, would be available on the 4th, but now jungle lovers will be given a choice between a pair of Kong-related offerings.

The platform holder has been quietly re-announcing its Q1 line-up over the past few weeks, having given us a rundown of some of the dates in late October. Other Cube games with solid early 2005 dates include The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure (Jan 7th), Mario Power Tennis (Feb 25th) and Mario Party 6 (March 18th)

Meanwhile GBA owners can look forward to another slew of NES Classics on January 7th (Metroid, Zelda II, Dr. Mario and Castlevania), followed by It's Mr Pants and Banjo Pilot from Rare in Jan and Feb respectively, and the likes of Square Enix's Disney-themed RPG Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories from March onward.

We'd imagine that Donkey Kong fans can also expect to see more Donkey Konga titles in Europe before long, given that Nintendo has already announced a third game in the series in the USA. We'll let you know.

But I never saw any trace of the second Konga game. Weird.

Amazed to discover that 'It's Mr Pants' is actually a rubbish-looking puzzle game. WTF are Rare doing over there at Castle Microsoft? Are they deliberately releasing crap games on Nintendo platforms to try and scupper GBA sales? :-)

Kingdom Hearts... mmm. Wait! It's out in the US quite soon, isn't it? Bugger waiting for March...

/heads off to check importers

Don't dis the Pants, man. He's got a rich and layered history. No - really.

And you need to see the game in motion to 'get' the look of it...

The 'look' is fine. It just can't get my head around the fact that they've spent the best part of 18 months producing a 'block-based puzzler'.

Hey, you're right! Jesus.... three years to produce a 'block-based puzzler'. Rare really do it like nobody else does.

Basically it's been finished and sitting on a shelf for years. You can imagine what the MS buyout did to the GBA release plans...
