BBC plans FightBox game

On PC, PS2 and GBA.

BBC Multimedia is planning to launch a multi-format game based on the much maligned FightBox TV/game crossover programme, showcasing the best of the FightBox warriors created by members of the public and recreating its tournament structure on PC, PS2 and Game Boy Advance.

Due out on February 6th, the game, developed by the BBC's in-house studio Gamezlab, allows competitors to design and build a personalised warrior, enter the FightBox arena and face off against deadly Sentients, and a variety of challenges testing the limits of strength, endurance, dexterity and collision detection.

With the show allegedly costing the BBC a whopping amount of money each time they run it, bosses will be hoping this videogame recreation is a success. Oh well, they've certainly got the advertising in place...

Oh dear. Might this be a flop?

Is the person in charge of FightBox someone very important in the BBC, related to someone important in the BBC, or shagging someone important in the BBC?

IIRC the TV show cost about £80 a viewer.

developed by the BBC's in-house studio Gamezlab

And what's their track record so far?

    I predict suckage.

I'm sure the 14 people who actually saw the show will love it. Er... or they would, if 13 of them hadn't hated the show.

The people on Fightbox are the geekiest people on the planet. They make the contestants on Robot Wars look like James Dean.

I caught a bit of one episode and no surprise to say it was bloody awful. The BBC should save money by not bothering with a game port, no one will buy it.

Awful awful programme.. i can see a game of Rise of The Robots quality!! thought there were a couple of good points in the show, they belonged to the female presenter :)

And there was me thinking that Fight Club would be the shittiest beat 'em up of the year.

Gentlemen, we have a new contender.

What were the BBC thinking? Lets ditch the ever popular Robot Wars and bring in a crap virtual beat'um up - the contestants even use MS Sidewinder joypads. Did they think people liked Robot Wars cos of is violence and thought this would be a suitable replacement? The BBC really have their finger on the pulse.

Funny isnt it - on the one hand you've got Shitebox, the generic "laddish" beat-em up show, on the other hand you've got Time Commanders, which is put out as a serious strategy gaming show for wargaming nerds.

Funnily enough, the latter is the better show...!

yeh the Rome Total War Advert is much better than Fight Box, which I watched 5 minutes of. Strange they keep holding back the release of Total considering how finished it appears on TV.

I didn't think Fightbox was complete crap. With a rethink, I even think it might be GOOD. But a rething is needed, better bot customisation is needed and they need to get some much better preliminary rounds fixed up.

And of course, Robot Wars is now on Channel 5. Heh heh heh...

Edit: Anyway, FightBox IS A DAMN GAME! That just dawned on me - you gotta fight online anyway! Umm... err... hmm...

Not coming out for the xbox?

thank god the game wont soil the xbox then :)

Total is far from finished. They don't need any AI in the TV show, they can get someone else behind the scenes to play the enemy. Plus the TV show doesn't have the campaign bits either.

I think it got canned because it was involving gunplay so therefore it was too violent. Badly animated robot fighting is ok though.
