Star Fox DS rumbles News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

6 July, 2006

With Star Fox Command swooping to Japanese retail next month, Famitsu has revealed a few more details about the interstellar pest's DS debut - including the fact that it will support an optional rumble pack cartridge.

The rumble pack, as those of you with heads and eyes may recall, came bundled with the Metroid Prime Hunters and Pinball titles in the US, and also works with Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Warioware Twisted. If you've got one, Star Fox will give you another excuse to dust it off.

Aside from that, you'll find yourself zooming around 30 stages according to the Famitsu report (partly translated by GameSpot), featuring deserts, oceans and caves as well as the deep black of space.

Star Fox Command is due out on August 3rd in Japan and August 28th in the US, although there's no confirmed European date for it yet. As well as rumbling, it will also take advantage of Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service for four-player battles, while those of you who prefer to go up against people within ad-hoc distance can opt for eight-player battles.

Expect a review nearer release.

I've heard that the DS rumble pack is weaker than a sparrow's fart - can anyone confirm/deny this please?

If you supply the flatulent sparrow we can run some tests and find out

Just run the test:

Farting sparrow seismic magnitude measurement: 0.023 (Richter)
DS Rumble pack rumble: 0.021 (Richter)

So it would appear that my initial fears have been confirmed.

i heard its more 'death rattle' than 'rumble', which is a pity.

It isn't compatable at all with Warioware Twisted. Where the hell would you plug it in given that Twisted is a GBA game? It has its own rumble built into the cart alongside a tilt sensor.

keep in mind that there are 2 models of rumble packs for DS.
(the one given for free for the classic DS is the weak and noisy one as they say.)

Although i'm not sure that you can buy the other one in Europe or US just yet.
It's only sold online by nintendo so far.

That's certainly not possible, Sony has said so.

Taking bets on it being called something completely different in the UK because some ancient Amstrad game got there first with the 'Starfox' name...

Please, powers-that-be, not Lylat Wars DS. Just....don't.

I remember asking for lylat wars in woolworths on the release day, i turned a lovely shade of red when the shop assistant shouted OVER THE WHOLE SHOP to her manager.. ' have we got lilac boys for this gentleman', i swear everyone thought i was buying gay porn.. and they didn't bloody have it in the end..

That must have been resolved now that we have "Starfox Adventures" and "Starfox Assault".
