PS2 price cut coming soon
£129.99 within the month, and bundles aplenty on the way too...
£129.99 is set to be the new PlayStation 2 price within the next three to four weeks, sources told Eurogamer today, while a number of excellent value bundle deals are being lined up from early October all the way up to Christmas as the battle for consumer wallets intensifies.
All the packs are to be official Sony bundles and will be available while stocks last. The first pack will hit European shelves on October 8th, and will bundle the console with EG favourites Pro Evolution Soccer 2 and GTA: Vice City for an incredibly good value 229 Euros, or roughly £159.99 - a saving of up to £100 based on the full SRP of current high street prices.
Next up, on November 13th the Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time pack will emerge blinking into the daylight, and will also be priced at a tempting 209 Euros price point (approx £144.99), and demonstrates Sony's faith in the title as a killer app. We were certainly impressed when we saw the game at ECTS last week, although the camera needs to be sorted out, Ubi!
Another pack which will prove incredibly tempting to the mass market is the Eye Toy pack, which bundles the current Eye Toy pack, along with the forthcoming second volume of games, all for just 229 Euros (approx £159.99).
Finally, providing Polyphony can finish the PAL conversion in time, December 10th will see the release of a Gran Turismo 4 pack for just 209 Euros (£144.99).

It's almost as if they just don't care what their competitors are doing at the moment. I can't imagine this practice will be able to continue in the next console generation, particularly if MS put their new baby out at or around the same time as the PS3.

I'm sure they don't. They're well ahead, they know they're well ahead, they don't see it changing any time soon... why lose out on profit?

iirc it should be by the time this price cut comes into effect. But watch out 'cause the retailers will be clearing out all their old stock first and it maybe won't be that easy to tell which you're ordering. One sure way is to get a silver one, as all the silver ones will definitely be the new type.

Do you really think it's just a matter of money?
Mrs. otto... can he?

its cheaper to manufacture than the gamecube and xbox, i think sony are just trying to rake in the cash to make up for the terrible performance of sonys other divisions lately

Friend of mine had a go with the eyetoy thing in Woolworths and looked a right arse dancing around - and it was even funnier when he realised he could use his tongue to hit objects

I'm gonna get that model 50000 or something but it don't have an internal network adapter, just improvements to the DVD e.g. better disk compatability, quieter fan and progessive scan for NTSC films.
Now i'm sure a NA bundle is coming, there is one in the US or planned. What i'd really like is the PSX
Oh and the new model is out around october. It's the one without the firewire/i-link port, instead an IR receiver.

Get the Player instead then!*
*assuming you've got a GC of course. You could just go get both.

What a narrowminded view you have, congratulations! If somebody has enough games on the platofrms they do own then why should they bother buying a ps2?
Using my own situation as an example, when they came out the dreamcast had better games, then my flatmate had one so I didn't bother then either and when I moved out I looked at just how much more I got for my money and ended up getting an xbox instead.
The alternatives at the time were an xbox, 5 games, xbox live and a second controller was a ps2, 2 games, a memory card and an extra controller so it wasn't that tough a choice. The main things that put me off getting a ps2 was the price compared with its rivals, the extortionate price of the unavoidable memorycard and that crappy bundle that dissuaded stores from doing their own offers for so long.
