S.T.A.L.K.E.R delayed again

The Shadow of Chernobyl lengthens its spell in development as GSC is given more time to polish up its FPS opus by publisher THQ.

PC first-person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has been delayed for an unspecified period of further development according to a posting on publisher THQ's German website this week.

The FPS, developed by Ukranian team GSC Game World and based around some sort of imagined mutant-blasting odyssey through a prettily grimy vision of the famous nuclear-facility-gone-wrong and the surrounding area, has been delayed several times previously.

THQ has put a lot of stock in the tech-heavy shooter though and, according to GSC's PR man Oleg Yavorsky, "granted [GSC] more time for the development," something he's pleased about.

"We want to make sure that we publish the game only when it fulfils high expectations, which we ourselves and the fans place against it, and no sooner," Yavorsky said in comments translated by our old pal Babelfish.

There's no new date for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at the moment, but it'll be some way beyond the previously announced May 2005 date by our reckoning. Christmastime, perhaps?
