EA signs Tiger for six years
As in golfer not giant cat.
Tiger Woods has reportedly signed a deal that will keep him on the front of EA's PGA Tour golf games for another six years.
Announced during EA's company earnings report, Gamespot reports financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
EA's made a huge business out of Woods, having first installed him on the front of its PGA Tour series as far back as Tiger Woods 99.
Since then, the series has witnessed the introduction of an analogue control scheme that's become something of a standard for arcade golf sims and helped the games to widespread critical and commercial success.
That said, Tiger's slipped off the pace a bit in gaming terms recently, with home console versions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 and 2006 criticised for failing to provide anything markedly new over existing titles.
The Xbox 360 version in particular was singled out for offering substantially less content than any of the others.
Tiger himself probably isn't bothered though. If the EA deal doesn't net him a tidy sum - and we bet it does - his golfing probably will; he hit a 66 in the second round of the Dubai Classic this week.

Because he is one.
And just for fun, here are the reviews for the 2012 version:
PC: "The wrinkles in Tiger's behind are not properly arrogant and fall short of the real length by a couple inches. The birds , at last, can be seen fornicating on the branches, although framerate drops a bit to about 220 FPS when you zoom in for a better view. The cars at the Pinehurst course reflect the sun back at a funny angle while they are heading for the gates, although they are fine while entering. These are unforgiveable glitches, and above all, one of my four GeForce 20800 GTXP cards broke down while playing it - 3/10."
PS3: "Even with half a million polygon used to render golfers, you just begin to realize how long in the tooth PS3 is getting. If you look closely, you can see that every 18th grass blade is identical. The sound when Tiger accidentally hits his leg instead of the ball (thanks to the Real-time Dynamic Aging copyright Hideo Kojima), is more like a club hitting a breastbone rather than the thigh. The fog on the Scottish course drifts lazily about instead of following the wind ruffling the golfers' hair. Pathetic - 2/10"
X360: "Looks marginally better than the Nintendo TS version - there is some life in the old horse yet".
Nintendo TS: "Sometimes it does not make sense to use two styluses on three screens just for a bloody golf swing'.

He's a video game brand name now, just like Tony Hawk and Colin McRae. Tiger could have the worst few seasons of his life and the games would still sell by the shedload as I doubt many of the players actually watch or follow golf.
