Dungeon Siege movie news News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

1 July, 2005

Cast details have been announced for the big screen adaptation of Gas Powered Games' PC hack-and-slasher Dungeon Siege, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

British actor Jason Statham, off of Snatch, Cellular and the rubbish Italian Job remake, will take on the leading role of Farmer. LeeLee Sobieski (Deep Impact) is signed up as Muriella, and John Rhys Davies - alias Gimli in Lord of the Rings - will play her sorcerer Dad.

Ron Perlman (Hellboy himself) is down as Farmer's mate Norick, and Matthew Lillard - Shaggy in the Scooby-Doo movies - will play Duke Fallow. Kristanna Loken (who's recently finished filming BloodRayne for the same director, Uwe Boll) will play Elora, a mystical tree-like creature who helps Farmer out.

Most excitingly of all, Burt Reynolds - fresh from shooting Dukes of Hazzard in the role of Boss Hogg - will play King Konreid.

A $60 million budget has been earmarked for the movie and production is set to begin in Vancouver this Sunday, ending some time in September. Boll reckons the film will appeal to LotR fans - though he says it'll feature less CGI - and is estimating a running time of three hours. As we reported previously, the script has been written by David Freeman.

"This is a very dark, epic picture in the tradition of the Sergio Leone Westerns that blends the imaginative action of Hero and House of Flying Daggers," Boll told the Hollywood Reporter."

The storyline will follow the adventures of Farmer as he embarks on a quest to find his missing wife, Solana, and avenge his son - murdered by barbaric warriors the Krugs. Along the way he must make the transition from plain old pleb to heroic nobleman, and win the war between the dastardly Gallian and King Kongreid.

According to Boll, the movie will feature elements from Dungeon Siege II along with some from the first game. He also informs us that "Gas Powered Games is so excited about the film script that they want to do an expansion pack or full game based on the film."

Dungeon Siege is due out at the end of next summer, but before that you can look forward to BloodRayne some time early next year. Boll is also currently working on big screen adaptations of Far Cry, Fear Effect and Hunter: The Reckoning.

I don't know how to explain...

But how would you make a "good" movie about Dungeon Siege?!

If people are this willing to waste money, at least have the decency to offer me some first before dumping it down the drain.

I find myself lacking in faith that a good movie can be made out of this property, even if Uwe Boll wasnt the director.

yep, that's right... pick some good films and try and rinse out all the good bits from them to try and make your movie... good one. So a fantasy film with wire-fu?

How teh hell does this guy keep getting money, and some not to shabby casts. In this case and Bloodrayne.

He either holds incriminating evidence on all of them, of gives good head to the money guys.

Holly shit... not another Bol movie...

House of the dead and Alone in the dark are so crappy that...

Why do you keep punishing us like this? Have you no mercy?

On another hand... Dungeon siege? Smells like another D&D movie...
