This is more like it, no? There are big, exciting games wherever you look, weekends can't come soon enough, and people are sending us eye-catching, functionally useless promotional items in the post (see below). 2009 finally gets going.
And how. What more can we say about Uncharted 2, one of your humble correspondent's favourite games of the year, and Eurogamer's first PS3-exclusive 10/10? Well, we can always say "buy it", since it's out tomorrow.
The same goes for the 8/10-scoring Brutal Legend, although it's a conditional recommendation. Having received a vast email overnight from EA insisting that it's "not an RTS!", it's important to note that it has RTS elements, but they don't get in the way of a typically characterful turn from Double Fine.
Something to do with Dementium II, apparently. Ra.
There's been another, perhaps-surprising 8/10 this week, for SEGA's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. We can barely believe it either, but there it is: a good week for platform mascots.
Another one of those, albeit a bit more faceless about it, is WipEout, so it's worth noting that if you've not bothered with the superlative WipEout HD yet, or the equally superlative WipEout HD Fury, then you can buy both together on a Blu-ray as of tomorrow.
Elsewhere, there's a new Drawn to Life from Scribblenauts scribes 5th Cell (review soon), Fallout 3's Game of the Year Edition, and PC owners should keep an eye out for Machinarium (review soon as well), which is a very handsome, very lovely point-and-clicker. Such things do still exist.
Whether or not you buy anything tomorrow, however, don't get captured.

Also got my copy of Uncharted 2 yesterday.....see, being premature is not always a bad thing :-) ....now just need to get the wife out of the house for a few hours so I can have a decent run through on it .....so far though, its got me hooked (working from home is a good thing)

Brutal Legend is fun but the multiplayer is beyond confusing. I hope it gets fun after understanding the concept better.

I played the first couple of chapters in Uncharted 2 yesterday - it is bloody brilliant! I want nothing more than to bash on with it, but 4 hours of work still stand between me and glory.

Man I'm going to have to hide my wallet to save myself from this month!
On my buying radar so far (just this month mind you!) is:- Uncharted 2. Brutal Legend. Magna Carta 2 Ratchet and Clank crack in time. That's 200 frakin' quid. and I've already pre-bought L4D2 on steam for the end of october demo! Luckily I've got that principal thing going with activision stuff so I'm not getting MW2 or I'd have to work out how to rig up a 50 inck LCD screen in a cardboard box on a street corner! edit: @f00b_inc It's your girl or Uncharted man........you know what you need to do.........I even know a shop that does those new red dual shock 3 controllers....just let her down easy....all her belongings being gone through by tramps on the side of the road should send the correct message ;)

"Uncharted and Fallout 3 GOTY edition for me" That's what I had done. I pre-ordered Uncharted 2 and Fallout 3 GOTY (PS3) from Amazon, and got them both on Oct 13 (here in the US). Also have Ratchet & Clank pre-ordered and MW2 Hardened Ed (for PS3). Also, I think it's really nice what Bethesda have done in the Fallout 3 GOTY - everything is on-disc, so there's nothing to download or install - the first playthrough, it just takes 2-3 minutes extra to load, and then you have everything.
