New Sony phone works with PS3, PlayTV

Aino and now you know.

The brand new Sony Ericsson Aino touch-screen mobile phone allows remote control of PlayStation 3 media, including support for recorded PlayTV content if you live in France, Germany, Italy, Spain or the UK

It works just like the PSP, then, and bosses the bigger console around over local and internet connections.

This is as close as Sony Ericsson can get to integrating the PlayStation brand in their products, having been deemed unworthy of the "prestigious" gaming brand.

The Aino also pulls media from PCs over Wi-Fi, has a three-inch screen, wireless headphones and 8.1 megapixel camera. It sets sound and vision free, according to the company blurb.

Nice but they still miss the point (or ignore it)

All this tech but I still need my good old PC to rip/convert/transfer MY Blu/DVD. THAT'S what I want Mr Sony.

I'm not sure failing to cater for your rather niche (and likely illegal) needs quite qualifies as missing the point. Unless I am missing the point.

Does he mean a store to download off of like the App Store?

Why on earth would Sony introduce a free movie ripping feature when it's looking to introduce a revenue generating TV and film download service?

"I'm not sure failing to cater for your rather niche (and likely illegal)"

I guess your're right kangarootoo, wanting to use your own media rather pay over and over again is rather niche these days :) Sod illegal. It's my movie/TV that I paid for, I do what I like. Just try a sue me ents industry. GO on DO IT!

Maybe (in a perfect world) to give paying consumers the best of both worlds and continue to support us fools who kept their industries going with DVD/Blu as we go into portable and digital. I'm not rebuying stuff I have on disc so It's not like the will loose a sale. No I guess ripping and torrents (if you can't be bothered ripping yourself) is all we get as reward for investing in disc media, now of to that torrent site I'm not paying again.....

Anyway I just think as soon as they let you do that from PS3 to PSP (now this phone) will start to fly, hell it may even encourage more people to...you know...buy from their video store for NEW movies/TV once they get used to the digital media. Just a thought....

Although this conversation is off-topic, I do agree with bad09. The reason this is "illegal" is because the ability of backing up our media would be detrimental to media companies' profits. They have more clout than the common man in Government (this excessive corporate clout, of course, is illegal as a democratic Government is supposed to be "by the people, of the people and most importantly, for the people").

I would like to be able to legally take backups and make portable copies of movies/shows that I have legally paid for. Is that so niche?
