London launch for Monster Hunter Tri
Meet its makers at GAME on Oxford St.
Wii game Monster Hunter Tri arrives in Europe next week, and Nintendo and Capcom has organised a free London launch event for fans and curious passers-by.
Oxford Street's GAME store is the venue, and the 5.30pm start (7.30pm finish) allows people with jobs and therefore money to attend. Phew.
Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujomoto and director Kaname Fujiok will be on hand to sign copies and smile at you. The first 50 people in line will be given a free Monster Hunter bag that contains some MH merchandise not on sale here in the UK.
"Fans are encouraged to dress in their best 'hunting' attire to celebrate the game's arrival in the UK," stated the press release. You could take your costume to work.
Monster Hunter Tri scored top marks from Japan's Famitsu magazine, although sales were lower than for the PSP games.
Nevertheless, a couch-based multiplayer experience may suit a European audience better - and Wii owners are in need of a deep multiplayer action adventure to sink their teeth into. A recipe for success?
Look out for Eurogamer's Monster Hunter Tri review really soon - series zealot Dan Pearson is hard at work on it now.

1) It's not on the most pirated handheld ever
2) It's being published by Nintendo themselves
3) It's more casual-friendly than the previous games
That said, I already have the japanese version, so I won't get this. I also feel that the game is a step backward compared to MHFU. Why couldn't they put the same (or more) amount of content of a PSP game into a Wii disc... bah.

Seems the Wiimote+nunchuck controls are a bit iffy, which is extremely disappointing. Perhaps it's an example of "wrong platform syndrome" if you need to bundle what is essentially a dualshock controller in order to enjoy the game?
Oh well, it's Monster Hunter so I'll still buy it.

Not for the faint hearted but if you're willing to put the hours in and overcome its steep learning it's one of the most rewarding franchises out there.

I have no idea why people are complaining about the wiimote/nunchuk controls. I have been playing the mh3 demo using it, and it feels great! I only recommend it though if you have big hands and can reach the d pad on the wiimote easily since camera control is a part of the combat.
Personally I prefer using the great sword using the wiimote nuchuk combo. Basically what you do is that you tilt the controller left/right or point it up, while pressing "A" (it's the main attack, there are more buttons), and you will be amazed by how many diffrent combos you can form just by pressing one button but in different ways

A Zork reference? My god man, you must be almost as old as me!
@ Luckyjim
I second that. MH is tough as old boots soaked in vinegar and then fossilized, but totally worth the pain. There aren't really any cheap deaths either. If you die during a quest then it's YOUR FAULT. "Adapt, adopt and improve" - God, now I'm making obscure references from the past...
BTW Anyone noticed the companion in 'Tri is now apparently a Skakalaka? I thought the Felynes were mad enough already!

Thanks for the info, that goes some way to mollifying my concerns.

I quite liked the feline companions. It was like having my cat questing with me (see profile pic).

'I could care less' is a redundant phrase, used only by people who misunderstand that they truly mean 'I could not care less.' It is a common accident along the lines of people saying 'rest bite' when they really mean 'respite.' What's funny is that you actually use your pointless, poor grammar as a justification of yourself. Please better acquaint yourself with the English language before you attack other people about it
Now onto topic: this looks like it could be a really fun game try out if I was a Wii owner. Nice to see something other than a new Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. that might actually stretch the potential of the hardware.

I used to have a cat exactly like that!
I love the Felynes too, but have to admit they're a bit nuts. I particularly like way they hit the deck when you press X to crouch (on MHFU)

Agreed. "I could care less" frustrates me too. So you're telling me that there's room for you to adopt even more disinterest?
Anyway, back on topic. I'm contemplating giving this one a go, I was in Japan around its release and it was being HEAVILY promoted. I did play a bit of Freedom Unite, but a home console version is probably more suited to my gameplay style.
